Nobody's Girl

Story Behind The Song

Christiana Clark was 17 years old when she came up with the idea of "Nobody's Girl". She had been dating for a year and felt the pressure of committment in boy/girl relationships. "Nobody's Girl" was a great way to express freedom. The song is recorded by the all-girl "sister" band 8 Brown Eyes. Christiana is now 19 and writes most of the music with critiques and help from other members of the family. She is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and violinist. Oakley is 18 and sings back-ground vocals while going crazy on the bass guitar. Summer is 15 and is an awesome drummer as well as back-ground vocalist. The youngerst sister is Madeleine. She is the keyboard player and also back-ground vocals. The girls really relate to this song. They have lots of fun friends that helped act in the music DVD of "Nobody's Girl" that was premiered at the Sacramento Film Festival August of 2004. It was a blast to make and a great memory to have...especially of their boy "friends" that were such good sports being the boys of "Nobody's Girl"!

Song Description

In today's world, teen-agers, especially girls, seem to feel the need to be constantly attached to somebody. "Nobody's Girl" is a liberating girl-power song, but not in a hurtful way. It simply tells the story of a girl that wants to embrace life and opportunities in the world during her youth. She wants the chance to share what she knows, increase her own spirituality, and still be open to testing her wings and making the most of life. Then when the time comes for committment to one person arrives, she'll be ready...but for now she is going to enjoy being "Nobody's Girl".

Lyrics

"Nobody's Girl" by Christiana & 8 Brown Eyes

(verse 1)
I walk alone, and that's okay with me.
I love my home, but I can't wait to leave.
I watch the sun set, and I want to know where it's going.
I'm sick of walking the same way the wind is blowing.

(chorus)
Because I'm Nobody's Girsl. I can't wait to see the whole wide world.
I'm going to tell her that I'm here. I'm going to jump without fear.
I'm Nobody's Girl.

(verse 2)
You try to hold me, but I quickly pull away.
It's not that I don't like you, I'm just not ready to be that way.
I'm tired of thinking that I have to find my only one.
I need to focus on life and have some fun, while I'm still young.

(chorus)
Because I'm Nobody's Girl...

(bridge)
I want to make a stranger smile. I want to help my spirit grow.
I want to teach the things I do and learn what I don't know.

(verse 3)
I fly alone, and that's okay with me.
I won't be scared while testing out my wings.
I'm going to soar all around this great big world.
And maybe someday, I'm going to be somebody's girl.

(chorus)
But now I'm Nobody's Girl...
