Young, operatic soprano, Rebecca Nelsen has performed Iolanthe in Iolanthe, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Anna Reich in Die lustigen Weibern von Windsor, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and Violetta in La Traviata. In 2003 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study music in Vienna. She has won multiple prizes in vocal competitions, most recently the third prize and the Best Soprano Award at the 2006 Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition.
Rebecca celebrated her European debut in Casken’s God’s Liar in the Vienna Klangbogen Festival 2004. In 2005 Rebecca sang Eurydice in Chech’s Orfeo with the Neue Oper Wien as well as Flora in the Klangbogen production of The Knot Garden by Tippett. Later that year, she sang Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in a tour throughout Japan. In 2006 Rebecca sang Pamina in Pernes’ Zauberflöte ’06 for the Vienna Mozart Year. This year brings further engagements with the Neue Oper Wien in Don Juan kommt aus dem Krieg as well as Radek.
