returning to NYC after a 12 month East Coast skip-scattering gig-a-thon, the Easys honed their new tunes in the East Village at Arlene's Grocery every Thursday. Since then they have been in the studio recording their 2009 release.

"Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music." Don't let the flannel shirts and short skirts deter you from getting close to the stage at a Real Be Easys show. The 18 - 35 music aficionado hipsters make up only about 50% of the audience. The other half are a mix of classic rock fans who wish the 60's never ended, or Alternative Rockers that still have Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots CD's in their Stereos. That being said if all the bands from the 90's and the 60's had an orgy without protection, Real Be Easys would be the resulting child. Similar to a newborn baby, the tunes of Real Be Easys are sticky or "catchy" and really hard to get out... of your head.
In 2009 Real Be Easys plan to release 2 full length LP's of psychedelic and experimental Alternative-Retro-Rock. Very heavily influenced by Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dandy Warholes, Beck, Portishead, the Beatles, STP, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, & Prince. A far cry from funky rock tracks like "Ipso Facto," off their previous release Lost Paradise, which reached number 1 on Mike Pinder's top 10 songs of 2008 on Indie-Music.com. Also "Schizophrenic man" off the Real Be Easys Mushroom EP received honorable mention in Billboards 2008 independent song competition.
Evan Jaffee songwriter/singer/guitarist of Real Be Easys has dedicated his life to perfecting the art of writing hit songs with Universal Appeal. With a catalogue of songs that grows like cells multiply, in the past 5 months Evan has signed licensing deals with 7 different companies. This being a fulltime job for Evan, he spends day and night honing his songwriting craft by constantly communicating with fans and coming up with ways to make the online experience with the band more interactive. It is the goal of Real Be Easys to give our fans greater and faster access to our shows, lives and thoughts.
The Easys have grown accustomed to roaming the road, humbled by the notion that another crowd in another town off another interstate may still be out there, waiting to be beguiled. The Easys have cut their teeth on the molten crag that is the urban pavement of New York City, before carrying their raucous on to whatever locale would tolerate their madness, from Philly to Bal'more, from Brooklyn to Harrisburg. Since their last live performance Real Be Easys have turned their practice space into a recording studio and have begun a freethinking music experiment to create great songs.

New York City singer/songwriter/guitarist Evan Jaffee (22) has a wiggle in his vocals to the point where you don’t exactly know when he’s being serious or kidding. It gives the music of Real Be Easys the kind of quizzical edge that puts their funk in your face. With Brooklyn bassist/vocalist Paulie T (21) and Queens drummer/vocalist California Leighton (25) providing the stop-on-a-dime precision syncopation fit to twitch to, Jaffee’s insinuatingly snakey leadlines dance atop the melodies like a stripper twining herself around a pole.
In “Defunkt,” which opens their 10-song self-produced, self-distributed debut Lost Paradise, they take a Red Hot Chili Peppers motif and expand upon it as if David Byrne was trading vocals with Anthony Kiedis. In track after track, Jaffee sings with a rapper’s sense of rhythm, rhyme and phrasing, yet still plays up to the psychedelic underpinning that’s at the heart of this band’s music.
Musically wise beyond their years, inventive wordplay (“Ipso Facto”) crosses with a Les Claypool type of bass pop (“Bullet”) and the kind of dynamics (“On The Road”) that, in and of itself, raises the premise of original intent into solid rock’n’roll. Lost Paradise is the kind of album that sticks in your soul like a tattoo on the brain. “Life With My Knife,” for instance, gets positively dark and utilizes progressive-rock elements while “Jam On” exhibits an eccentric acoustic whiteboy soulfulness a la Beck, forcing the realization that there are no genre controls in place here.
And that’s just the thing about Real Be Easys. Just when you think you’ve figured them out, they go all haywire on you, daring you to keep up. The final track, “Rick Rubin” (which actually precedes a hidden jam), is a “tribute” to an artist they admire. Taken in its totality, Lost Paradise could lead one to possibly ponder the future musical direction of such an eclectic brew. The promise of this band, the swagger, the intriguing blending of disparate elements, all point to a multitude of potential avenues that Real Be Easys could traverse. Their future is more than bright. It’s downright blazing.

A beat flows in Brooklyn, and all around it, a vicious city bustle dissolves and shatters the reverberations as they emanate from the depths of a dim studio sound cell. A solitary cubicle among cubicles and they each reverb like tectonic plates, bantering melodies all on top of one another. Most of them contain dusty dreams of those destined for musical declination. But surfacing amongst the rubble ascends the most prolific sound to hit the New York bar scene in years; a melting pot of raw talent, free expression, and cataclysmic feud that can only be described as the Real Be Easys.
RBEs Evan Jaffee (guitar, lead vocals) explains that the Easys are “three guys who all knew what they wanted out of the world and out of their instrument real early in life,” adding that “Our personalities match our instruments.” Hailing from Great Neck, NY, Evan Jaffee has played in various bands since the age of 10. At Boston University, Evan met future Easys Bassist Paul Testagrossa where the two became good friends and soon formed the band "Down the Hall", winner of the 2004 Boston University Battle of the Bands Competition.
Since the formation of the band in May 2005, Real Be Easys have been playing out building up their Manhattan-Brooklyn following. For the past 2 years, RBE has played through all of NYC’s hottest venues, including shows at Webster Hall, Knitting Factory, Arlene’s Grocery, Bitter End and Crash Mansion.

In accordance with the recent 2007 release of Lost Paradise (their 10 Track, funk-rock soaked hypnotic LP), RBE has made it a point to play outside the 5 burroughs of New York. With well recieved shows at Vassar College and Sarah Lawrence College under their belt RBE has already begun to take hold of the East Coast college students. Evan (Vocals/Guitar/Loud/Crazy) tells it like it is, while Pauly T. (Bass/Quiet/Very ill) has a profound ability to play it like it is. These two feuding elements are provided a steady livid platform by drummer California Leighton, a cat with a steady hand and funky California feel. Real Be Easys are known to funk out in their own warped version of the Parliament Funkadelic on CRACK, as well as Rock out in a proper late 60’s psychedelic fashion.
The goal is to offer an alternative to dance music, with the same effects. Massive swarms of people packed like sardines into large halls, all grooving, and connected to one universal sound and energy that will transcend because it’s Live. In a world where motion creates emotion, the girls want to dance, and the guys want to bop their heads and bump the bass, Real Be Easys are the providers.
