Ted Myers

Songwriter, Recording Artist, Producer, A&R Rep

Ted Myers started his music career playing and singing folk music in Greenwich Village coffee houses in the early '60s at the age of 15. He began writing original songs soon afterwards, and formed his first rock band, The Lost, at college in 1964. At the end of that year the band dropped out and moved to Boston, where they immediately gained a reputation and following among Boston's ubiquitous college crowd. In 1965 they were discovered by Capitol Records promo man Al Coury, and were signed to Capitol shortly thereafter. His next two bands, Chamaeleon Church (featuring future comedy star Chevy Chase on drums) and Ultimate Spinach (featuring future Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers lead guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter) were also well known in the Northeast in the '60s and both released albums on major labels.

He moved to California in 1969, where he pursued a career as a singer/songwriter. He was signed as a staff writer to Tree Music in 1969. In 1972 he wrote a song that was used as the main title theme for the movie X, Y and Zee, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Caine. It was recorded by Three Dog Night and released as the B-side of a million-selling single and was on two multi-million-selling albums (Seven Separate Fools and Around The World Live). In 1976 he was signed as a recording artist and songwriter by Chalice Productions, who secured him a deal to make an album for United Artists Records. He formed the band Glider in 1977 and the album was released later that year.

From 1978 through 1980 he was a staff songwriter for Interworld Music Group, and had songs covered by Seals & Crofts and Chilliwack. In the early '80s he performed and recorded his original material as front man for the band Incognito.

In 1988 he studied music editing for film and worked as assistant music editor on the film When Harry Met Sally, directed by Rob Reiner.

In 1989 he joined the staff of Rhino Records as assistant to the Vice President of Legal & Business Affairs. A year later he transferred to the A&R department, starting as assistant to the Sr. VP of A&R and eventually becoming a compilation producer and A&R rep. He produced Rhino's first folk music CD series, Troubadours of the Folk Era and co-produced the three-day Troubadours of Folk Festival in 1993, starring Joni Mitchell, Peter Paul & Mary, Judy Collins, John Prine and many others. Later he produced the three-CD box set Washington Square Memoirs: The Great Urban Folk Boom (1950-1970), which was nominated for a Grammy in 2000 as Best Historical Album. He was A&R rep for the twice Grammy-nominated Caravana Cubana and two-time Grammy winners BeauSoleil.

He joined the A&R department at Concord Music Group in 2006, where he worked with such iconic artists as Paul McCartney, James Taylor, John Fogerty, Rickie Lee Jones, Elvis Costello, Tift Merritt, Crowded House, Macy Gray, Chick Corea, George Benson and many others.
