If I have an artistic mentor, it would be the late legendary Galen Rowell. Galen's approach to his award-winning outdoor photography was strikingly unique. In his best-selling book 'Mountain Light', Rowell observes:
"When the magic hour arrives, my thoughts center on light rather than on the landscape. I search for perfect light, then hunt for something earthbound to match it with."

This quest for 'magic light' has come to define MY photographic vision as well.

It is most telling that Rowell was FIRST a mountaineer, THEN a photographer. He revelled in the sights & sounds of his beloved mountains LONG before he became prolific with a camera.

I can relate. I consider myself an EXPLORER, rather than an outdoor photographer. When I am fortunate enough to encounter a 'moment of magic' in my travels, my heart's deepest longing is to immortalize that moment on film. Thus, those who can't be there firsthand to witness the magic may nevertheless catch a 'glimpse of the grandeur.'
