HI Kate. Thanks so much for the review of 'Speed of Life' I had no idea how accomplished a Musician you must me with 200 + children's songs to your credit. In answer to your question about the song, the guitars (acoustic & electric) are real queued to a Yeti mic in stereo mode (recorded separately of course :-) The drums and sax are VST's using a MIDI input with a MIDI keyboard.

Okay, dumb question. What does VST stand for?

VST = Virtual Studio Technology which is the defacto standard for creating effects as well as virtual instruments when connecting your MIDI device (usually a keyboard but they make MIDI guitars) Supported in all the DAW's = Digital Audio Worstation. You name the DAW and it will support VST pluggins. A few DAWs that come to mind are: Protools, Cubase, Appleton Live, (Audacity which is free http://www.audacity.com 1 )

Here's a Wikipedia link on VST's
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtu al_Studio_Technology

Here's another link on the 10 best DAW's for 2018 according to this source. FYI, Cakewalk Sonar supposedly now free so I'll be checking it out.
I hope this helps.

Thanks! That's more info than I needed. I'm not a techie, but my producer is. I just write and play the songs on my guitar. He is a protools guy. Thanks for educating me!

Hey Teri,

Thanks for the kind words about my live song, "King Barlow". It is an OLD song recording from 1971 where I was performing "Live" at Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City.... I guess 1971 makes it almost an antique! HA!

Anyway, I was playing two harmonicas at the same time, too.

The recording has a wide sound because the ballroom was miced for The Kansas City Philharmonic...whom I was honored to be their opening act. It was a historic event, as it was the first time that a philharmonic orchestra had performed in a rock 'n' roll venue. Interesting.....

Best to you,

Chet Nichols

I didn't think it was recorded line in it sounded Mike still wasn't a bad recording at all! I know you are very busy but I love your guitar work and I have a song that I wrote for my late husband that needs to be recorded as an acoustic number. It has been recorded as an orchestral piece but I would like to have a lighter version would you consider recording it for me?

I think the reason I liked your song so much is because of the crazy topics I write about. You're my kind of songwriter! (btw my craziest song title is "Who put a Toothpick in my Waterbed?")

Hello Teri, and welcome to Broadjam. Thanks for the review of Wanda the Wiper. It's a totally true song; really happened to me on one of my tours, now immortalized in song. I was finally able to "find her" several years later and sent her the CD. She loved it. Oh, her name was really Elaine. Thanks again! Mrs Kate
