NICHOLS, ADRIAN D. (11/13/83), local groundbreaking hip-hop recording artist. Adrian Nichols, also known as S-Type was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was an only child raised by a single mother who worked 12- hour shifts in a local cotton mill to support her family. With the help of his grandmother, S-type's mother did all that she could to make sure her son learned the morals and values he needed in life to be successful. She knew that she had a talented son, and wanted to afford him every opportunity to have the life he deserved. By the time he was 7 years old, S-Type's mother encouraged him to showcase his remarkable singing ability by performing at local functions and amongst family and friends. Considering his family's background in music, it came as no surprise that S-Type had such talent. His grandfather was an incredible singer and piano player; his father was an influential local disc jockey who gained recognition as one of Greensboro's top DJ's in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
Despite hardships during his childhood, S-Type managed to maintain excellent grades in school and received several academic awards and recognitions. It was during his years in high school that he began to perfect his singing ability by joining the school choir. This was a fulfilling venture for S-Type, as the school choir was very renowned; the choir even had the opportunity to perform in Madison Square Garden. After graduating high school, S-Type spent more time working on his musical ambitions. As the art and popularity of hip-hop grew throughout the community, S-Type soon discovered that he was just as talented at rapping as he was at singing. This newfound ability would later make him a "triple-threat" in the music industry as an artist who could sing, rap and write his own music.
In the early 1990's, with a computer and a microphone, S-type began making music and recording demo tapes. He collaborated with other rappers in the neighborhood, performed at local parties and gatherings, and built a solid reputation as a credible lyricist and musician. It was not long before another local artist in the industry heard about S-Types skills and sought out to work with him. DJ Zero was a successful up-and-coming music producer who had just opened a new recording studio in the area and was looking for new raw talent. The two men finally met, became friends, and began working together to create the "down south" type of hip-hop music heard today. S-Type's lyrics, fused with DJ Zero's beats, produced a rare sound that has contributed to some of the hottest music coming out of North Carolina today.
The two men moved forward in the hip-hop industry by creating Steady Working Productions, a recording label and studio, that currently has other artists like "Bossman" and "Adang" recording tracks and making hits. Although, S-Type has even bigger dreams for himself as an artist and musician, he has definitely made his mark thus far in the industry. He continuously strives to reach higher goals, accomplish bigger tasks, and perfect his already remarkable craft. Although he has been a powerful and influential local talent, S-Type is also on his way to being an unstoppable lyricists and recording artists that is sure to get the attention of the national hip-hop community as well.
