Moxie is a young, energetic blend of ideas bursting out of Houston, TX. Combining thought-provoking lyrics with funky guitar riffs, Moxie creates unique and catchy songs that are hard to ignore.
The EP Fight the Monochrome - released in October, 2006 - is Moxie’s first studio work to date. In these four songs Moxie showcases two lead singers, hinting at their impressive stylistic flexibility. Within the context of a single song, Troubadour, Moxie presents the listener with fast-paced verses of pop-folk storytelling, vibrant choruses of triple vocal harmony, and a funky breakdown that transitions into a mellow rap and later, enthusiastic scatting.
Moxie met as students at Rice University and formed the band in September, 2005. A few months later they had already won KTRU 91.7 FM’s annual Battle of the Bands in their first-ever live performance. In 2007, Moxie has started strong with performances on and off campus, spreading their music to the Houston community and beyond. Most notable was their recent show at Fitzgerald’s, one of Houston’s oldest live music venues. Their songs from Fight the Monochrome also enjoy frequent radio play on Houston’s 91.7 FM KTRU.
Recently, Moxie has been working hard on new material and hopes to return to the studio in order to record a full length album by late spring, 2007. They also plan on touring extensively in and out of the state of Texas during the summer.
