Matej Mestrovic CV

is one of the most versatile Croatian artists. Besides being a successful musician and composer, he directed several documentaries and travelogue films, for which he was awarded in his country and abroad. As a pianist, he also won numerous awards, and performed in numerous concerts and festivals. Meštrovic spent two years in Amsterdam composing the opera "The Gypsy Girl" for the Italian conductor and opera music producer Giuseppe Raffa. He was awarded by the City of Zagreb for outstanding contribution to the Croatian pavilion and exhibition at Expo '98. in Lisbon and was presented with a special prize in 2004 by the mayor of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic for the film "Croatian Dream Dubrovnik". Mestrovic's CD entitled "Zvuci Velebita" (Sounds of Velebit) was distributed in a print run of 45,000 copies in addition to the renowned magazine "National Geographic". In October 2005, he won the prize for best tourism film in all categories at the international festival "Tourfilm" in Poznan. Meštrovic collaborated on nearly all albums of the crossover pianist Maksim Mrvica and released his own two CDs for "Aquarius Records" - "Deserts of the World" and "Holy Mountain". He is a member of the Croatian Composers' Society.
