When he was meditating in a cave in Nepal in 1980s, the deity Tara was singing the Great Compassion Mantra echoing throughout the mountain, he remembered and recorded the first Great Compassion Mantra in Sanskrit, hence the great compassion mantra in Sanskrit was popularized throughout the world.
