The Journey Continues

Mac Truc or "Mac" is a Virginia based artist but he reps the entire D.M.V. (D.C., Maryland and Virginia). He started his hip hop journey back in 1995 in his hometown of Savannah, GA with his first rap group Death Before Dishonor. He and his friends were inexperienced in the culture and practices of the music business so things didn't pan out for D.B.D. Although reluctant at first, shortly after graduating from high school Mac decided to enter into the Armed Forces due to the lack of opportunity in Savannah. While in the Army, he harnessed his emcee skills through numerous battles and ciphers. Most ensued during debates over North vs. South, who was better, or the fact he mentioned he rhymed. The emcees he met in the Army exposed him to different styles, content, delivery and personalities. This is the time credited to the 1st metamorphosis of Mac's style. He went from an obvious Southern rapper to an emcee. His first duty station was Camp Colbern, Korea (About 30 minutes south of Seoul). While there, he saw how hip hop was interpreted from people he had no idea even listened to it. Korean teens were sporting locks, fly gear, and listening to many songs he liked and knew the words. At that time, the hip hop scene in Korea in his opinion was larger because they focused on what made hip hop so great. The ROOTS! From B-boys, to graffiti artist, break dancers and DJs; everyone did their thing and got love. After leaving Korea in '99, Mac was stationed at the Pentagon for his remaining 3 years in the Army. Washington, D.C. is where he transformed his style once more. After teaming up with a local independent artist/producer, his style changed to more positive/conscious. He focused more on lyrics depicting the state of black men and women, the need for higher standards for emcees/rappers, disproportionate economic situations, political issues and the inequalities facing all people. In short, "real" life issues "real" people deal with on a daily basis. 9-11 was the catalyst to this change. The tragedy sparked something in Mac after fellow soldiers and employees he knew were killed in the attack. It was bigger than music. This was the birth of II Be Heard. Surprisingly, although he had been emceeing for years, Mac had never released a solo album. His first solo album II Be Heard was supposed to be released in early '02. But after a dispute with his label, his project was pushed aside. Now on his own and out of the military he decided to create his own label with a friend from the Army. This was the birth of Most Hated Entertainment. Unfortunately, this didn't pan out because his friend had to move back to NJ. Mac tried traveling to NJ but it wasn't feasible and they weren't experienced in making beats and running a business at the time. He still kept the faith by attending many open mics, shows and ghost writing for other emcees. In '04 he decided he would put out his first mix tape. It was a compilation of songs dating back from '99-'04. He titled it "Pro Bono" and gave it away. After not creating the buzz he intended, he decided to call it quits in late '06. He settled down, got married and started a family and was content with his decision. It was after a long phone conversation with his cousin in '08 when he decided to give reconsider. Mac felt he had never pushed himself to the fullest to actually achieve his goals. So in '09 he promised to push himself and focus solely on his music with the hopes of putting out a quality album that represented him, his life and his views. He prayed to meet people he could vibe with that weren't driven by ego or personal gratification to get his goal accomplished. His prayers were answered when he met Chris (Nebulous) and Reggie (RawNote) his Fly By Night partners and family. Collectively, they created II Be Heard. Mac's first solo album.
