Singer/pianist/composer Luiz Simas is a multi-faceted artists. Born in Rio, he now lives in New York City. His material ranges from Brazilian choros to Brazilian jazz, pop and modern bossa-nova. He performs around the world both as a solo pianist and with his group.

Bio

Luiz Simas was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is a composer, singer and pianist, and he has performed and recorded with several well known Brazilian artists. Many of his songs have been recorded in Brazil, and he also composed several soundtracks for tv. Luiz was also the first musician in Rio to use a synthesizer, and he composed and recorded sound effects for several tv and radio networks, including the trademark sound for Brazil’s principal network (TV Globo).
Living in New York since 1989, he has performed as a solo singer/pianist, as well as with his own group and with several Brazilian and American groups, in places such as the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Conservatory, Rutgers University, SOB’s, the Village Gate, The Spanish Institute,The Ballroom, Hotel Plaza Athenée, the Roger Williams University (Rhode Island), Cinema Arts Center (Long Island), The Elebash Theater at the City University of New York’s Graduate Center, the Mirage Hotel (Las Vegas). He has performed at several music festivals, such as the Hartford International Jazz Festival, the Rocky Mountain Ragtime Festival in Boulder, the Oslo Jazz Festival in Norway, and the II International Chopin and Friends Festival at the Polish Consulate in NYC (where he played his original compositions in the chorinho style). Mr.Simas has played also performed in Brazil, in Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and in Trinidad.
He was the music director for Brazilian legendary singer Elza Soare
