Drumwoman Gives Hope to Many

Linda Thomas Jones (Iya Omi Oni) engages people in the language of the African drum. Ms. Thomas Jones is an African drummer, a skill historically reserved for men. With over 30 years of experience, Linda is a multitalented international performer. She is the former director of Ibu Ayan, an ensemble of female musicians dancers and singers. Linda has also presented programs through the Ohio Art Council's Arts in Education Program, Young Audiences, Alliance for Education as well as many schools and universities throughout the United States. She is also a recording artist and composers. Ms. Thomas-Jones has been a repeat performer at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival for many years. She has produced several cds including Sacred Waters (a ccllection of inspirational songs with an emphasis on percussion). Her music is always upbeat and original. She usually records with other female musicians.
