Juana Rodriguez, (Rome, 1979) Soprano Singer of Jazz·Classical and Actress, born in Italy grown up in Chile and Spain and at present rooted in New York .Begins going to singing classes at the age of 8 ; that’s when she took her first steps in Music. Influenced since she’s 10, but with her own style, by Bessie Smith, Shirley Horn, Jeanne Lee,Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald in modern singing and classically by Kiri Te Kanawa,Sumi Jo, Cecilia Bartoli, Victoria de los Angeles, Mirella Freni, Renata Scotto, listening to them all on her record-player at home. In 1988 she starts devoting herself exlusively to the training of her instrument; the voice, by exploring different styles within "BLACK MUSIC"; Jazz-Soul-Blues-Funk-R&B-Bossa Nova and "OPERA" always giving priority to Jazz and Classical. Superior degree in Acting – “CEV” School of Interpretation-Image and Sound, Barcelona 2006 Superior degree in Modern Singing – “ Juan Pedro Carrero Music School”, Barcelona 2005 Superior degree in Classical Singing – “Juan Pedro Carrero Music School”, Barcelona 2005 Theatre and Dubbing studies, interpretation, Musical studies, of modern and classical voice. Flamenco dancing and singing studies. Outside the musical territory she is an Actress of Theater and Movies Dubbing Pupil of great Teachers of Modern and Classical Voice, Music,Theater and Flamenco Dance.During 1999 she intensively travels around Europe making contacts and musical and artistic activiteis. After this experience, in 2000 she decides to settle in Barcelona-Spain, to continuos with her musical, dance and theater artists proyects. Winner of the FONDART price of MUSIC in Chile,year 2006 and scholarship to live in Newyork and work on the Scat-Improvisation method, with the Jazz singer Jay Clayton and on Classical with Ira Siff and Richard Gordon. In june of 2006, launches her first Jazz production "Speak Low" ,recorded at the sudios of Albert Moraleda in Spain and edited under same brand , acompanied by great European Jazz Musicians; Joan Chamorro at Baritone sax, Agata Palencia at Piano, Drums with Alberto Cabello , and Double bass with Nuno Torres. In the record you can listen at jzz standards such as "Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk, "My Romance"by Richard Rodgers or "All of me" by Seymour Simons, as well as Bossa nova themes such as"Desafinado" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and "Samba triste" by Baden Powell. In 2006, she travels to New York in order to promote the album and give concert in the most important Jazz Club of NYC and continue increasing her artistical carreer. At the present time, and in parallel with her musical world, she writes her first book “ El libro de la Voz” ( The Voice book) where she draws up her own Singing Method and speaks about all the studies, in holistic terms, where new vocal exercises will be found, as well as advises, diction, posture, breathing, phonetics, stage fright, anatomy, rhythm, body and more. With the unique aim of divulging one more experience, under a modern point of view. Completely different from what has been written and read on the Instrument. A personal experience. Her vocation is to go on developing her carreer as a Soprano lyrical Singer and Modern Jazz Singer, keeping clearly in mind the difference between both techniques and continuing on both paths simultaneously, as she has the capacities, knowledge and sufficient conditions to do it. She has passion and enough enthusiasm to go on building, cleaning and developing her instrument; the voice for Music and Acting, and keep on producing different projects, improving her sound and scene interpretation.
