Overview
Jodie-Joy was born and educated in Sydney Australia were she studied music and dance and trained vocally to sing both popular and classical music. This captivating performer has eleven years of extensive dance training from jazz to ballet, which underpins Jodie's rhythm, style and presence on stage and on camera. As a third generation professional singer, with her father Robin Donald Smith(former principle tenor with Australian Opera) and her grandfather Donald Smith OBE arguably one of the greatest tenor voices in the world; Jodie has been surrounded by music her whole life, which she has used as a springboard to develop her natural gifts and fulfil her passion.
Throughout her career, as well as developing her artistic talents vocally and as a entertainer, Jodie has continued to expand her talents as a songwriter. She has created expressive and powerful music, working with some of Australia's most popular and notable artists and songwriters including Daniel Jones and Hayden Bell (Credits: Savage Garden), Thomas Who (Shannon Noll), Audius (Delta Goodrem), Dead Mono (Ronan Keating).
First bursting onto Australian television with her role in the first Australian 'Popstars' series, Jodie achieved recognition as one of the ten finalists and was voted to be the most popular by the Australian public. Well known for her regular television appearances on Channel 10 Good News week with the all girl group 'Poptarts', with whom she appeared as the opening act at the Australian Logie Awards. During this time she collaborated with Paul McDermott (Good News week host), Paul Mac (Eleven/Emi) and Phil Burton of Human Nature. Jodie was soon recognized by Director Hayden Bell of Excalibur Publishing (Credits: Veronicas, Mark Sholtez) and was quick to sign and develop Jodie, so she then moved back to her second home town of Brisbane.
A devoted spirit and obvious vocal quality has enabled her to support many high profile acts as lead vocalist in corporate & her original bands, showcased in London for Decca Classics and toured to Sweden to write with some of the world's best songwriters. Trained singer, dancer, songwriter, Jodie is extremely versatile artist with years of experience performing in theatre, television, staged productions. She continues to entertain as a solo corporate and original artist or within her jazz trio "Emerging Cocktail" and or choreographing and producing her own lavish corporate, classical and cabaret stage shows, which have also toured within Australia and South East Asia.
Jodie's vast performing and musical repertoire embraces pop, music theatre, jazz, classical and adult contemporary music. As a testament to her talents, her debut album "I Still Believe", (which was released by Columbia Records in Japan). Now independently, Jodie is focusing on both Australia and securing further international recognition for herself as an adult contemporary / classical crossover style artist. Jodie has recently signed with Suprime Records (dance market only) for her unique ability to write and sing power ballads, which is set to release in Germany & UK.
