The story of Jet Kanashi

It was a cloudy day I remember, the day I decided I wanted to become a singer. I was sitting there listening to Vonda Shepard's "100 Tears Away," and suddenly it hit me, "I want to sing." It was not that I had never thought about it, for it was a childhood fantasy of mine, but for most of my life I was afraid to talk, let alone sing, and so I spent most of my days whispering or saying nothing at all. It was at that moment I decided to sing that things began to take off; it was like the sky suddenly opened up and things began to make sense as the light of day shown ever so slightly through the clouds.

I worked on things for several years, voice lessons, music theory, and digging into my psyche to find that which I could sing about. I met my producer in 2005, and from there we created songs that became my first album, "Enjoy the Sadness." I adopted the stage name Jet Kanashi. "Jet" is my initials, and "kanashi," not only is my favorite character to write in japanese, but also means "sorrow." I took that last name as an hommage to who I had been all my life, a sad, unhappy person constantly searching for truths, because it was from who I was that I now understand who I am today. I am passionate and hopeful now, and I embrace the chance to further my career as the years come.

In the few months my music career has been active, I've been able to attract a small but international fan base that I am very grateful for. My goal is to expand into the mainstream arena of music and increase that fan base.

Thanks for reading
Jet
