The Blacklight Project BIO

The Blacklight Project is a genre-blending experiment in downtempo concocted by Scott Spivak, Insight (of Blurred Insight) and Arcane (aka Tella Vizion). A mellow, entrancing, and deep-grooved journey that can only be called "blacklight music" (The New York Times)

Arcane and Insight met during and were influenced by the mid 90s New York rave scene. Both musicians and promoters, they began writing music and building songs, many of which would later go on to win contests (JLSC) . While working with members of the Fugees and Wu-Tang in the studio, they linked up with Scott Spivak, a rising name in the NYC jazz community. The three quickly developed a bond and their mind's melded in a way you only hear of in the movies.

Armed with influences as varied as Bjork, Keith Jarrett, Mos Def, and the Doors; a social conscience and a bit of studio wizardry, "The Blacklight Project" was born.

Tella Vizion aka Arcane BIO

MC, Producer, Musician, Artist, Dancer, Rapper, Songwriter, and voice of a generation.

Take a good look in the mirror; you can be assured that what you see staring back at you is nothing at all like ARCANE. But don't take this to mean that he is out of touch with his peers and the world around him-- quite the opposite.

Tella Vizion's rhymes represent the thoughts and feelings of people from all walks of life; what sets him apart from the next cat is that he expresses ideas that others are simply unwilling to give voice to, and he also manifests beliefs that others may not yet realize they possess .

With a jungle-influenced flow, Tella Vizion moves swiftly back and forth between topics, dropping science on subjects such as war, peace, poverty, equality, the mystical realm and the state of mankind while hapless MC's get caught up and drowned in his stream of consciousness.

You can't help but listen with an open mind, because I guarantee you that he'll get your mind open. Production by Insight (see bio)

Scott Spivack's BIO

Scott Spivak, a New York native, has been performing as a pianist/keyboardist since his high school years. He began his piano studies, mostly through jazz, at the age of fifteen. This was a late start for a beginning pianist, but whatever he lacked in formal background he gained twice over through his daily dedication and deep personal connection to creative music.

Scott would go on to study music theory and analysis at New York University, where he took a bachelors in jazz performance and where he performed throughout New York City at such renowned jazz clubs as Smalls, Birdland, Knitting Factory, and Cleopatra's Needle.

His reputation as a talented and eclectic pianist landed him opportunities to work on projects from various record companies, film producers and other artists, such as Boston's Elan Mehler and the Blacklight Project, which he co-produced. Scott is currently a piano technician and male model for Donna Karen.

Mad Maxx's BIO

With a captivating voice, unmatchable delivery, and a passion for hip-hop that is evident with each bar he spits, MAD MAXX leaves an imprint on your mind and a hole in your speakers every time he picks up a mic.

Max's journey began in Latvia, in the former Soviet Union. At the age of eight his life took a turn when his parents decided to move to the "Land of Opportunity". Their extensive voyage included necessary stays in Austria and Italy, until they eventually made it to their destination: New York. Max's inability to speak the language led him to use hip-hop as a learning tool - and ultimately as a gateway for expression.

Mad Maxx won the hip-hop competition at the New York Comedy Club and placed in the John Lennon Song Writing Contest (2001,2003).

Unquestionably a new breed of MC, MAD MAXX's undeniable talents have been inspiring those around him since he first set foot on a stage. www.madmaxx.org

Mike Cooper's BIO (Bias Ply)

Bias Ply was formed in 1999 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Mike Cooper .

Cooper, whose biggest influence was Tom Petty was always an avid songwriter & charismatic performing rock musician. Influenced later by contemporary artists such as Beck and Radiohead, his songwriting took a mature and complex turn.

In 2003 to record his first album he acquired renowned NYC jazz pianist Scott Spivak and critically acclaimed electronic-producer Insight among others blending simplicity and tastefulness to produce a seldom seen mix: 'radio-friendly honesty'. "I really do not listen to much music... it's not because I don't like other musicians, but it is more the fact that their lyrics and false images make me nauseas... sometimes, so do mine", says Cooper.

Fed up with the current state of music, his only two goals are: to write great songs and one day have the chance to 'ghostwrite' for his fallen idols.

Bias Ply's second album is set to be released early in 2006.
