Houston studied music composition at the Petrie School of Music at Converse College under John McLean and David Berry. He later went on to study electronic music under synthesizer pioneer Robert Moog at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. His professional career began with working for Bob Moog as a technician at Big Briar (now Moog Music. The majority of his early work was created for stage, but he also scored custom spots for local television and radio stations. He also composed and directed music production for several theater works with award-winning author David Hopes, and produced original electronic scores for ballet conceived and choreographed by Ann Dunn. He in now in Los Angeles working for Sony Pictures Digital and pursuing low-key scoring and songwriting projects with independent and student filmmakers.
