Heather Donavon is the latest singer-songwriter from Los Angeles to break out of the mold with a bold reinvention. Just like Katy Perry, Brooke White and Sara Bareilles each went their own unique way from the famed piano bar Hotel Cafe, so too does Donavon. Last time I had seen her in concert, she was playing very beautiful, jazzy, piano arrangements below her soft, heavenly voice. While those tracks may still surface in the future, Donavon hits one deep into left field with "Take it Downtown" - an alt rock banger that would sound as great on KROQ as it would KISS-FM.
