Hey Hannah,

Thanks for the review of one my vintage outside-loner-acid-psychedelic song, "Kites In The County". Sorry, you didn't really like the song, but it does come from a totally different era of music, as it was recorded "LIVE" at Wally Heider's studio in San Francisco waaaaay back in 1972. Back then, Wally Heider's, was the center of the Bay Area recording scene. Anyway, on that day, I was working with my producer, Stephen Barncard (David Crosby, CSNY, The Grateful Dead...etc)) on my second album, "Waving Prairie". Songwriting was different back then. Yes, we had to have singles, but the album cuts allowed us to create longer, more atmospheric tunes, which "Kites in The County". This was also a thread that was woven in the psychedelic music scene in SF and in the Laurel Canyon songwriter scene I was part of in LA.

On the song, "Waving Prairie", Stephen was able to bring in the tabla virtuoso, Zakir Hussain (https://zakirhussain.com/) to play tabla (check it out). It is an amazing song. Once we had finished recording the song, "Waving Prairie", Zakir just wanted to keep playing with me. So, I had just finished writing, "Kites In The County", and I suggested we just jam to the song. And that is what we did. I asked Zakir if he wanted to rehearse the song and he said, "No, just play and I'll join in". So, I opened the song with the harmonics and Zakir joined in. We played the song, I sang and we improv-ed our way thru it with no rehearsal all in ... ONE "live take". Once we finished the song, everyone in the studio and the booth sat there stunned. It was quite the track and experience. Stephen broke the spell and laughing he said, "Ahhh, that is a keeper"..... and it made its way to the album.

I guess you had to be there.

Anyway, I do miss those days of recording. I am still close friends with Zakir and Stephen.

Ahhh, the magic of music.

Anyway, you have a lot of nice songs and a bright future ahead of you. Keep up the good work and great success in the future.

Hi Chet, Thanks for the kind response, and for taking the time to share that story! Sounds like it was an amazing experience, and a powerful musical moment for all involved. I'm glad to have heard of it. The technical and musical skill of all the players definitely does shine through on the track. And in context of the story of how the song came into existence, the longer track definitely makes sense!

Thanks for reaching out, and I wish you all the best!
