For this, click on “Review Random Song.”

Click the “Play” button at the top of the following page. The song will begin playing (though you will be unable to see the song title or the artist’s name). After you’ve listened to the song, fill out the review on the page by scoring the artist in the specified categories. If there are any categories that don’t apply or you’d rather not comment on, just click the “N/A” button for the category (which will not hurt the artist’s score at all).

Once you’re done scoring the song categories, you’ll see two text boxes below – one for positive comments and another for constructive feedback. Unless you think the song is fine the way it is, please include some constructive feedback for the artist as to how the song could be improved.

Once your information is entered, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “Submit” button. On the following page, you’ll just need to browse your computer files and specify the MP3 file you’d like to upload. Click the “Submit” button once the file is selected.

Once you see the “success” message, your song will have been added to the encoding queue. Until the song is encoded, the status of the song will read “pending.” Once the encoding has been completed, the song will be activated and ready for use. 69. What is the Transmit function, and how do I use it? ^
  70. Broadjam’s Transmit function provides the ability to send your songs to any recipient via a web link. The recipient can download and/or stream the songs you select. You are in complete control of who receives your songs. This is a great service as it saves you money in CD production and shipping as it delivers the content in digital format.

To use the transmit function login to your account, drag your cursor over “Songs” in the navigation menu and click on “Transmit Songs.” Click the Transmit button on the following page, select the songs you would like to transmit and then you may e-mail them off to whom ever you choose, or you can copy and paste the link to use later. To turn on/off the free download function click Edit next to the Songs button. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check or uncheck the “Allow song downloads on all song transmit” box.

  71. What is the transaction fee? ^
  72. When paying for downloads with a credit card, you will pay a $.50 fee any time your payment is less than $4.95, the cost of 5 songs. This payment goes toward covering the charges imposed by credit card and the credit card processing companies, which is approximately $.50 in fees every time a credit card transaction is made. If the independent artist covered this fee, they would only get a few cents every time they sold a song. You help pay the independent artist fairly for their music by covering this expense for them. If you choose to use Download Purchase Credits, we will cover the transaction expense for both of you, so neither you nor the artist have to pay. This is just one of the benefits of paying with Purchase Credits.

  73. What are Broadjam free songs? ^
  74. We allow our members to make as many songs as they’d like available for free download. It’s a great way for artists to attract new fans.

To make your song available for free download, login to your account, hover over “Songs” in the left menu and select “Add/Edit My Songs.” Then click the “not free” link to the right of the song title, which will change it to “free.”

  77. What’s an MP3 file? ^
  78. MP3 files are a special type of file, which uses the MPEG format. All MPEG files store audio in a compressed digital form. Currently the MPEG format defines 3 different categories: MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. Each category describes 3 different layers of encoding: Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3. A true MP3 file is an MPEG version 1, Layer 3 file. In order to streamline the processing of your files, Broadjam requests that all songs uploaded to us are encoded as MPEG version 1, Layer 3, 192 kbps (or higher) at 44.1 kHz (or 128 kbps at 44.1 kHz). Unfortunately, this setting can be obscured by some of the encoding programs that are in use, please consult the program’s manual for additional information.

  79. How can I listen to streaming audio from the Broadjam website on my computer? ^
  80. The Broadjam website uses Macromedia’s Flash to stream audio. If clicking on Play does not automatically launch the pop-up player, double check that your browser’s pop-up blocker has not stopped it. If the player is visible but does not play double check that you have the most current version of Flash on your computer. Also check that your computer’s firewall settings are not blocking the Broadjam website. Download Flash.

  81. How come the sound quality of a song can vary when listened to? ^
  82. Songs uploaded to the Broadjam website are encoded in Lo-Fi at 24kbps and Hi-Fi at 192kbps. However, the sound quality of streaming audio may vary due to which streaming audio file format you’re listening to and your internet connection speed. Remember, we supply 2 streaming audio formats so that more people will have access to your songs.
Recommended Streaming Audio Formats for Users based upon Connection Speed:
    Lo-Fi - Dial Up Connection
    Hi-Fi - Broadband Connection

Click on the bandwidth settings button on the Flash player to change your current settings.

  83. How do I renew my membership? ^
