Born and raised in New Jersey, Drew comes from an entire family of musicians, including his father Gers Yowell, who used to jam and spend time with such Jazz legends as Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday or Stan Getz. At the age of 12, Drew began writing songs and developing his own style, while joining his oldest brother Don Yowell's band Beema Duma, leading to an 11 year catalog of new songs. The band performed to packed clubs in New York City regularly and released a first album in 1986. Drew also began stretching out on his songwriting ability with help of friend and mentor David Lasley. David gave Drew the chance to co-write and record with him, as well as David Benoit, and Jason Scheff (Chicago). Since then, very well known artists like Phoebe Snow (for whom Drew co wrote 2 songs for her last album) or Louie Di Vito decided to collaborate with Drew on many occasions.
“ Drew Yowell is one of my favorite songwriters and he’s an incredible musician!” - Carson Daly (MTV Personality)
