A unique cocktail of pop, rock and blues, full of those genres sweetest strains.
The Stranger- J. Kirchemer

Darren is a super duper blues guitarist and probably the most inventive, daring and exciting electric guitarist I have heard live in the last ten years. I freak out when Darren takes a solo -- I'm usually left with my jaw on the floor. Go see him live. His guitar playing will make you cry and laugh or if you play guitar it might make you quit."
Dave Dederer- The Presidents of the United States of America

"Loucas displays Jeff Buckley-like vocal tendencies allowing his voice to slip into vibrato as the music ebbs and flows. But unlike the recent parade of male artists, Loucas writes sophisticated, even complex songs that combine blues and rock elements to fit his unique vision. Juke's debut album featured more hits than misses and they could be one to watch..."

Bio 2007

Darren Loucas was born in Brooklyn in the Summer of Love.

One night his musician parents woke to the sounds of Cream's White Room and found Darren twirling a record on his finger amid a pile of vinyl discs and album covers.

He’d fall asleep under the baby grand piano listening to Chopin only to be roused by The Who or Led Zeppelin...

As a teen, Loucas began playing the guitar and was moved by the primal expression of the great Blues masters. He deeply immersed himself in that music, welcoming Delta slide and fingerstyle guitar into his brewing pop sensibility.

In the 1990's along with long time friend and harp player Sean Divine, Darren formed the acoustic blues duo, the Jelly Rollers. They later “went electric’ and released the self titled, “Jelly Rollers” to much critical acclaim and received the 2003 BB award for best traditional blues band.
While continuing to play with the Jelly Rollers, he formed his band “Juke” which one critic described as a “unique cocktail of pop, rock and blues, full of those genre’s sweetest strains”

Loucas's songs are deeply rooted in hardcore, old school, honest-to-Guthrie folk blues music, but their identity is tempered heavily by his ginger falsetto vocals and profound guitar work.
The Stranger called his guitar playing "a revelation".

Clearly gaining momentum, the Seattle Weekly hailed Juke as "the one to watch", and commended their début album as "one of the more moving records to come out of the Northwest in recent years.”

For the last 2 years, Loucas has literally “gone deep” re-inventing himself with clarity and confidence. He’s been focused on writing and arranging songs for a new EP due out in early summer. He’s currently auditioning new members for his band, to be called “Darren Loucas”.

In the meantime, he'll be performing intimate solo gigs showcasing new songs in advance of his new CD.
Loucas's always delivers a show charged with powerful musicianship and emotional immediacy. A charismatic performer, he isn’t afraid to tap into that vulnerable part of himself which makes each show a uniquely moving experience.

Catch him live on the West Coast and in Europe in 2007.
