Simon Cowell signs UKSC winner Natalie Chua
After her success in the UK Songwriting Contest Natalie Chua was signed by Simon Cowell which led to her being presented with a Platinum album on national television for sales of over 500,000. This proves once again that the UK Songwriting Contest is the best contest to enter for songwriters trying to break into the music business and get noticed by those in the industry. Natalie says: "I'm so proud of The UK Songwriting Contest win and, of course, I always mention the UK Songwriting Contest to those in the industry every chance I have and whenever I'm interviewed about my achievements. Doing well in the contest gave me confidence in my writing. I would recommend it to anyone".

Publishing, Recording, Radio, Press and TV -
Genuine opportunities for Songwriters
Every year finalists and winners are featured on national and international radio, TV and press and are offered recording, management and publishing deals (just like Natalie above). Many of them are beginners who have only just started writing. No other song contest in the world comes close in generating media attention and in getting publishing and recording deals for new songwriters. Anyone who enters could find themselves featured in our Songwriters' News page soon!
Prizes in 2008
EVERYONE who enters gets something really good this year - we don't forget anyone, and we have made sure that entering this contest is worthwhile for every songwriter. There is far too much on offer to list here so please see our Prizes page for full and complete details.
ENTRY IS OPEN TO EVERYONE
Songwriting ability is being judged, not performance
or production. Beginners have as much chance as every one else
who enters. There are
ten categories for entries. These are: Pop, Rock/Indie, Folk and Country, Jazz and Blues,
Miscellaneous, Dance,
R&B/Hip-Hop/Urban, Christian/Faith, Lyrics Only and
Instrumental. Full details of each category are
here.
This is an international event and entries are welcome from all parts of the world - in Europe for example more songwriters choose to enter the UKSC than the Eurovision Song Contest. And many writers from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South America write to us to say that this is their favourite songwriting event.
FEEDBACK AND CERTIFICATES
The UK Songwriting Contest is the only major music contest that keeps you informed of your songs progress and provides valuable feedback to entrants. Every writer gets to know the exact judges score for each song entered and also details of the final position of each song in the event - eg preliminary stages, semi finals, finals, runner up etc. This sort of feedback is invaluable to songwriters. Every writer also receives an impressive frameable certificate for each song entered with details of their song's position in the contest - great for your living room or studio wall, for your press kit or for when applying for courses or jobs etc.
A GENUINE CHANCE TO GET NOTICED
The UK Songwriting Contest is dedicated to promoting the art of songwriting and the discovery of new talent. All entries are very carefully examined by experienced industry professionals and everyone has the chance to get noticed. We aim to provide maximum exposure and genuine opportunities and we are actively looking for promising writers. Many important people in the music industry follow this event closely, and past winners and finalists have been noticed by prominent members of the music community including Sir Paul McCartney and Simon Cowell. Writers that show potential, whether they are contest winners or not, may be offered opportunities for publishing and career development.
