Hi Doug - thanks for your review of "I Will Walk With You". I went back and listened to it several times and I do not hear the "glitch" you refer to in your review. The only thing I can think of is that you expected it to go to a different chord than the way it was intentionally written - basically a difference in creative point of view. Not surprising, as I listened to several of your tunes and they are quite a different style than my own. In any event, thanks for the listen and best of luck to you.

Hi Andy - thanks for the nice review of "The Bestest I Ever Had". You were right in that it's a live performance, and was actually taken from a TV show I performed on with a blues band back in 2002, hence the production was not top notch. I appreciate that you saw it for what it was - best to you!

Hi Terry. A while ago you wrote us a GREAT review of our song"Everything". Kind of hoping you might enjoy the video link too. Thanks, Cairo Fred
The opening is absolutely great - jumps in your face and grabs you! The piano sound is remindful of Neil Finn arrangements (Crowded House).

Hi Laura - You probably won't get this as I see your last login was 7 mos ago, but I just listened to your song "I'm Sure" and was again struck by it's incredible complexity, yet it sounds so laid back. A really creative piece, and I suddenly had an urge to hear it again today after many months. I am very glad I listened - it's exquisite! I hope you and your husband are involved in tremendous success, now and in the future. Best to you. TG

I'm very pleased to announce that "Could it Only Feel Like Christmas Everyday" received Honorable Mention award in the Song of the Year Contest, a worldwide online songwriting contest. This places it in the top 10 in it's category, Christian music. Congrats also to Michelle Lockey for her Semi-Finalist award in the same competition!

Hello Paul - Thanks for the review of my Christmas song. It's amazing to think that you believe my playing is quantized (I'll take that as a compliment!) - I guess I was spot-on with the timing. The sound is purposely made to sound "Christmasy" by midi-ing two pianos together, an Ensoniq SQ-1 and a Roland SD, so that both of their grand piano sounds play at the same time. I absolutely played the song "live" in the studio - the track is unadulterated except for added reverb in mix down. As for it not being usable as is, it is debuting on-air tomorrow on Q-106 at 8:30 a.m. as a featured song on their morning drive-time show in Madison, Wisconsin (you can stream it online at Q106.com). None of this is griping, I just wanted to let you know what you actually listened to, instead of what you thought you listened to. My sister-in-law Rachelle Fiskey, a fine musician in her own right, sang the tune, and Bruce Towle, the bass player from my band played acoustic bass, again with no quantizing. We recorded all the tracks simultaneously, as a trio, just as we do when we perform the song live. I added the strings in a secondary dub. I guess it just proves that what people hear is subjective at best, and I do thank you for your time in doing the review - it's always interesting to hear what others have to say, and I appreciate your views. Have a wonderful holiday! Terry Grinde

well there you go :) as you say, a lot of this is subjective - I've had the same song panned and praised by different reviewers, sometimes highlighting the same things positively or negatively, which can be both frustrating and illuminating. Congrats on the air play - as you say, it proves me wrong in my opinion and that's fair enough :) I did like the song - obviously whatever it was about the arrangement that didn't sit well with me isn't a problem for others, which is entirely as it should be.

Terry many thanks for your review of Girl on the train. The song and is actually sung and played by a very talented guy who fronts a local up and coming bank Mojo Fury here in N Ireland. I myself write the words and make up the tune but unfortunately have absolutely no talent! It's very pleasing to hear positive comments from someone like yourself who knows what they are talking about. I actually have been considering getting into writing for advertising and if you have any tips I would welcome them. Sincere thanks again. Am impressed with your list of achievements! Kind regards Peter Coburn

Terry, PSR has a new Christmas song. A protest about wanting to call it a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas Tree. We loved your comments about our last years Christmas song. That one is in submission now! We have a female singing now. Your comments would be appreciated. I just put it up. Thanks STEVE

Hi Steve, I listened to the tune, and I like it, as I share the sentiment. Must admit the intro threw me a bit, until I realized it was the hook, placed up front. About the only real criticisms/suggestions I might have follow: I felt the guitar was a little loud during the verse, maybe could be mixed back a little, it seemed to be competing with the vocal early on. I like the organ, but I'd only do the upslide "intro glissando" once - the second time seemed like overkill (you know, "haven't we heard this before...?") Of course, these are minor things and subject to the ear of the artist/engineer as well as the listener. As a songwriter, I wanted to hear the vocalist take a little bit more of a chance here and there with the melody - she seemed to stay pretty close to home throughout, and especially at the end it would have been cool to hear her go out on a limb a little, which would have made the melody, and hence the song, more catchy. Overall a very nice holiday tune. Good luck pitching it, and much success to you guys!

Hi Michael - In reading the comments here, just seconding the sentiments already expressed by others. Just listened to "Gone Into Forever" and really like it a lot. Don't know how a guy gets better when the music is already great, but you are upping the ante with every tune - great work! By the way, I saw your brother on the bus route the other morning when I picked up Josie - if he loses any more weight he'll blow away. Jimmie's a great guy! All my best to you brother, and keep pushin! Terry Grinde (formerly w/the deVillebillies - we broke up a few months back).

Thanks to you guys, "I Will Walk With You" has been steadily climbing several charts in the past week, and Sunday reached and remains #1 on the Wisconsin Top 10, #2 on the Pop-Easy Listening Top Ten, #5 on the Midwest Top Ten (now #7), and debuted for the first time in the Pop Top Ten chart at #7 where it remains today, this ranking among ALL Pop tunes on Broadjam being especially pleasing to me. Appreciate you insight about the vocal mix in our tune, LET THE BLUES BEGIN. I thought about a bridge, but decided it didn't add anything to the misery we were trying to convey. Like some of you stuff, this tune has made some top tens. We intend to tweak the mix a mite. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Mike - I liked the tune, you have a pretty good "country-sounding" voice (or your singer does, if it's not you). I think you could EQ to add a little more bass to the vocal track to take advantage of the low timbre of the voice, and select a different effect that doesn't "cloud" up the sound. Try using a small amount of delay and reverb - cleaner is better when it comes to voice. The effect should enhance and expand, not take away or cover the voice. Definitely make sure the guitar is accurately tuned - even one string slightly out will be noticeable. Demos should always sound as good as you can get them - don't settle for "almost". Best of luck to you Mike! tg

P.s. - If you're having trouble tuning, have the guitar's harmonics checked by a tech.
