Chet,
I don't know what to say... Thank you SO much for the honest, and extremely detailed review of my song, "as good as it gets." It is so refreshing to get some legitimate and helpful constructive comments. I can't thank you enough, sir. Please continue to do for others what you did for me. This community desperately needs more artists like yourself.

Hi Ted!
Thank you so much for your kind review of my song, "all to blame." I so appreciate your thoroughness, and constructive comments. You're one of the very few I've come across here that takes the time to help out other artists. You deserve some serious commendation for that. I'm on my phone at the moment, but when I get home, I'll definitely check out your tunes. Thanks again!

Thanks for the support Paul. Not sure if you saw my post because she reviewed one of your songs too? I've been a member for a while and it was one of my worst reviews. It was frustrating because she actually reviewed "Love in Between" and for her title she wrote the first line of my song which is "I never say what I mean". It never gets repeated so its just ridiculous. Her positive comment to me was "indie folk song". I didn't know identifying a genre was considered a positive comment. Her constructive comment was "a little boring, simple arrangement". She pretty much gave me all 3's. Obviously, she just wanted review credits which is pretty selfish. I've had some effort-lacking reviews before and usually don't say anything, but I guess I got tired of it. I checked out a few of your songs. Great voice and guitar playing! Super clean recording that you got! Best of luck!

Yep! I got just about the same thing. Her positive comment on mine was, "tv show music." Her title for my song was "see her," which is (like yours), never repeated, and in the first line "All to Blame." Constructive comments were, "boring, no replay value." I agree that it's clear she's just reviewing for credits, but if you want your stuff to be reviewed, then you need to put effort into the reviews that YOU do! It's frustrating, and very self-centered.
Thanks for the kind words on my tunes! I played my fiancé your stuff last night, and she loved it as well.

I don't appreciate the lack of effort you put into reviewing my song. Its fine if you don't like a song, but if you're going to be a part of this community you should explain why. If you have a degree in songwriting from Berklee as you say, you should be able to explain why a song doesn't work or why it is boring. I can tell you did not even take the time to really listen to my song since you completely missed the title. Any decent songwriter would know what the title of a song is if they have any analyzation skills. Please do not waste this community's time and insult my song without giving the courtesy to at least listen.

I second this. If you're going to offer constructive comments, then you need to do better than "not very original," or "no repay value." That is in no way constructive. I would expect more from an accomplised songwriter.

"all to blame" is a great song man,dig the chord changes in the chorus.just an idea but this tune would sound big with a band behind it,have them kick in as the 2nd verse starts, but sits beautifully as an acoustic piece also

thanks paul, that was just a piece of music i wrote for my wife.it was recorded in between takes for a session i did for another band,i liked how it translated so i through it on here to see how it would go.it's quite a departure from what we normally do and was fun to record(not to mention putting me in the good books with the wife lol).as for your comment regarding the breathing,i did the take and we listened back.we instantly picked it up but it seemed to bring a real honest kinda feel to it.almost like your sitting there in the room with the guitarist(that would be me ),i liked it so we kept it.big thankyou for your review,i was a bit worried what people would say about it but it's nice to know that you enjoyed it.

You know? just to say...to some Peeps that do reviews...

Some of us are beginner artist...and we are looking for advice and kind words even if you don't like our music.

We all put what we feel in it! It is not necessary to say "Back to the Drawing Board with this one" Really? I've been at the drawing board for ever and just want a professional to take the lyrics and run???

I know I am not the professional singer, nor the professional recorder..."shit" I just need my lyrics herd? Anyways, I just want some people to understand that some of us "Me" need help on how to accomplish instead of criticized with not much advice behind it?

For this type of crap...I am gonna just sing all my songs that I have wrote in the past 10 years solo if I have to...to get help with some melodies on them and even someone to sing it if they want. I am a song writer and can sing everything I write...but putting music to it and or doing it my self with only self learning is hard. So ready or not...I have made a goal...

Most of you are the most wonderful peeps I have ever met. And I will alway promote Broadjam and the wonderful "kind hearted Peeps" Here. I refer a lot of my peeps to this page and musicians as well. In respect to Mr. Roy Elkin's and his wonderful generosity!

Lori

Just Say'n!!! (I am not talking about my contact Peeps here)...lol just to say...again! :)

"Back to the drawing board" is harsh, and needless. I know your material Lori, you don't need to be heading back to the drawing board.

I get reviews from a couple of Broadjam artists regularly, who, no matter what the song, always give scores much lower than the average, without saying anything at all about the content or any "constructive comments" about how to improve. In fact have had the exact: "Back to the drawing board" comment, with no explanation.

Reviews are subjective, and I think reviewers filter what they hear through their own templates based on their own backgrounds or what they want to do with their music. Songwriters sometimes think it's all about lyric and structure, producers sometimes think it's all about db and frequencies, and players sometimes think it's all about the performance. Everybody isn't trying, with every song, for a Top 40 hit, or a film licensing deal, or whatever. I've had many songs with much lower than average scores, with no comment other than: "I don't like instrumentals. Add some words."

Then there's the larger issue of taste. Too many reviewers review songs based on the idea that they don't like instrumentals, country, pop, jazz, or whatever. Songs should be reviewed for what they are.

Broadjam reviewers are a lot like a cross section of the public at large. I'm sure you've known many people who are perpetually complaining about their boss, wife, husband, girlfriend, neighbor or all the horrible things the world has "done" to them. They love to put people down, because it makes them feel better, by comparison, about themselves (of course, they don't think they're doing that). Not saying this is the case with every bad review, but lack of specific comments support this view. On the other hand, some Broadjam reviewers, many of them very accomplished artists, go out of their way to explain in detail what can be done to improve. I've been fortunate enough to be reviewed by some of them, and it's helped me tremendously. Then, there are the reviewers who are eating a peanut butter sandwich, and watching tv at the same time they are reviewing, while their spouse bitches at them from the other room, and the dog is barking out the window at a bird flying by, etc, so they're not paying attention and just seem to go down the line clicking off scores with no comments, or they have a membership level where they have to do ten reviews to get one, so they just click and move on. And, there used to be, in a certain category (unmentioned here) a band who would rise in the charts every six months or so, after I'd notice a series of bad reviews (like; 4 out of 5) all from reviewers who just happened to be from the same city as this certain band. Talking with other Broadjam artists, I discovered that they also had a rash of bad scores also from the same exact reviewers. -- Point is, maybe it's better to take some reviews less seriously than others.

And to reiterate; Lori, don't pay any attention to the drawing board comment, you've got some great material based on feeling and your own drive. You're much larger than any review.

Wow Robert! I understand everything you said...and totally agree....and see! It's people like you and all the wonderful connections and reviews that keep my drive...going! So to speak! I do look at life like that, as well, which helps me be a good reviewer. It gets hard sometime to stay positive!

PSR and I are really trying to even get out our new tune together? (Audio Dificulties on my part) But learning...:)

I am a patient person with a lot to offer...I can't expect everyone to like me or my music...but I sure can continue to encourage it? As so do you and your wonderful mind and heart!

Your words are so right that I couldn't of said all that better! I do understand your warm heart. Sometimes this female still gets to be a fighter and I like to win...and teach along the way...I like to learn and also wait in turn... As I see you seem to be very in tune with a lot of many aspects in life...as so do it....all doors open when good, bad, opportunity, happy, scary, or sad I consider all ways to make the setting better than what it started at.

Its easy to not be greedy and selfish...and harder to teach good! :) Lori Thank You!

Well put, Robert. Lori, just keep doing what you're doing! It matters not what others think of your music, as long at it warms your heart to write it.
We are songwriters because it makes us feel good. There is no better therapy for life's problems than to write music (in my opinion). Don't ever let anyone take that away from you.
Whether your music pleases someone else is trivial. What matters is that YOU found comfort, and opened your heart when you wrote the piece.
Stay strong always, Lori!

I agree with Steve, Lori. You are not a peon relative to anyone here at Broadjam or anywhere else. You've got a lot of feeling for what you do, and that's what it's really about. When you break it down, there are only two basic aspects to this: creative and technical. You certainly have the creative down, and the technical is just a... "technicality." Seriously (not just saying this to make you feel better), just be true to your own art. That's all there is. No matter what one's artistic voice is, some will like it, some will not. Be true to yourself and let the rest follow as it will.

WOW again! Thanks, You guys!!! This all is so good to hear! Believe'n in me is all I had...I truly know know its not all I got! I got all of you truly believing in me...and that is worth more than words can ever express! So needed in such a Negative World that we live in! You all are my inspiration (just watch it...lol I might have to jungle a song about all this) LOL ??? I will keep moving forward and get all these songs out of my head. If you all think me posting them solo is ok to do??? Then I would love to get all this music and lyrics out and heard. I am so trapped with my writings that most haven't even hit the paper!

My goal last year when I posted "Bassackword" I did that song with a couple of friends present even, cuz we were playing with my software! (Sounds kinky...but I'm talking audio! LOL) anyways...LOL I posted it then realized I needed to jungle another, so pushed out "The Seed" When they started hitting top 10 at xmas really surprised me....Cuz my goal was "To be heard with my music by professionals" and that goal prevailed! :) Thanks to all of U! :)

At New Year I then made and new goal..."It is to have a song make it...on the Top 10 world wide" Now I know that is a very BIG goal! But believing in me is why I set it....and I tell my friends around me..."Just wait and see!" I still have to empower this because it is still my Dream Goal! So on I will keep posting new songs with or with out music! OK Guys?

Thank you all so much for your support...It truly help me keep going...in my world. With no musicaly inclined people to work with other than an internet...I have really never sang in front of anyone...ever. so THANK YOU...It's just me and my Mic!!! Loving this site! Lori
