Thank you Derrick for a very fair review of Don't Know If I'm Religious. Even though it is only a demo for my publisher to pitch, I would like to have done a better vocal job on it but have found it very tough to sing. Something to do with my ageing vocal chords and the range required!!
Thanks again,
Bob

Hey Bob. I don't know how old you are, but if you take care of you vocal chops you can sing forever (Tony Bennett, Sting, et al)
I'm 67 and in better vocal condition than my younger days (which were filled with late night partying, etc)
I'd be happy to demo stuff for you via file share. I have a nice studio, great mic (AKG C12) and I'm very reasonable.

Thanks Derrick. I'm 71 and I look after myself quite well but have never had a particularly strong one and it's really just a question of some things, on some days, just being harder for me than they used to be. This track came out somewhere between my big voice and little voice, if that makes sense to you, and I've struggled to find a key that works across the song. I might just see what a bit of Melodyne processing can do!! My publisher (Cat Lamondt) loves the song but wants to improve the hook line so there is work to do on the song yet.
I will certainly keep your offer to demo for me in mind as you have a great voice. I guess Cat hasn't come back to you to sing on her duets?

I have not heard from her.
Like my review noted...the vocal delivery seemed to be somewhere between Kenny R. and Henley. It just needs to "sell" the tune a little better.
If you wanna learn a little more about making the most of your voice, check out my wife's book. She's been training singers for quite a long time with great success...and wrote a book about her method.

Hey Dave...
Thank you for that very kind and very thorough review of my song LOVE'S SO HARD TO FIND.
It is indeed an era song... Hence the production values. But you really got the essence of the song and I love that you dug all of the influences !
I will have to dig into some of your stuff a little more. I just listened to FALLING DEEPER and love the hypnotic vibe.

Hey Jeff... Thank you for your nice insightful review of my song BABY PLEASE. You are absolutely correct... It is very reminiscent of the Atlanta rhythm section song. That's intentional. This was recorded for a project for song licensing in the southern rock vein

Very nicely done Derrick.

Hey Kate! thanks for the very kind review of my song YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE. Yep...great players! Some of Nashville's finest. And you were correct in noting the mix as being not quite there...it was a rough mix thrown together at the end of the session. Never did get a final mix. Best to you.

Thanks for the sweet review of my song, TOO MUCH. Very kind of you. Yes...real drummer, however not real drum sounds. Song goes back to the 80's...we were using some very "new" recording techniques involving drum pads, etc.

Hi Derrick,
Thanks for a very detailed review of Sarah Lost Her Life. No arguments with anything you've said, I need to sort out a proper hook at the end of the choruses. Having listened several hundred times it seems, I had already realised that the lead guitar didn't really work, probably because I recorded it before the vocal (yes, I know!) and tried to adapt it around the vocal in the mix.
Also noticed the lack of build-up or impact so version 2 should be quite an improvement.
I am incredibly grateful for your feedback because it has helped me considerably in confirming the need for a revision - and what requires most attention.
Thanks again.
Bob
BTW, I was never quite sure if this would work or if it would be sheer schmaltz - so at least it looks like it will work in due course!

You're welcome. I'd love to hear the revised version. I definitely think it has legs for submissions to licensing opportunities.

Thank you

Version 2 Derrick. Now called Lost Lives and more generic. Have added some subtle low strings in there as well. Thanks again for your comments. Bob

I just listened to the revised song. I like what you did. It is very evocative
A production note... At least from my ears... The vocals are a little too far out front for a song like this
It will make it especially difficult to place as the story is very specific

Just released Aug. 3, 2018...Shemekia Copeland's new CD, America's Child, to overwhelming acclaim. I have a track on the record, In The Blood of The Blues, co-written with Grammy winning lyricist, Terry Abrahamson. Check it out!

Just heard Bethlehem PA in the Country Rock chart - absolutely brilliant in every way. Vocals are top notch and the production overall is as good as it gets. It seems to be one of your older tracks but I was blown away with the sheer quality of the recording, and of course the songwriting. Just great stuff, well done. If you've not placed this already, you certainly deserve to.
Good luck,

Bob

Wow! Thank you Bob. I'm pretty proud of that one. No placements for it, but a lot of great feedback like yours. And of course, some occasional sales on broadjam.

Good to hear. Will find time to check out some more of your music very soon.

LOVE " the ride of your life" has a vibe of " Bruce Hornsby and the range " !!:)

Thank you so much Julia! I'm quite fond of that one myself. I've not thought of it in terms of a Bruce Hornsby vibe, but yeah... I guess so. I'm flattered since I'm a big fan of his. I'd love to submit this song for some licensing opportunities, but I feel that I don't know what genre it belongs in. Any thoughts?

Julia Schmidt posted over 30 days ago

Sure thang!! :) I would say it has a def. country flavor ..'it can be a cross over but the vocals are more country sounding with this :) as well as the guitar work ..so I'm leaning toward country- contemporary :) good luck with it !
