Love the vibe of this song. I agree with Mr. Roberts. It has this Erykah Badu feel. You are representing the "Show Me State" proud, little sister.

Dear Peter,

Thank you for the endorsement. It is truly an honor to be recognized by an artist as respected as yourself. The one thing that I am really trying to do is hook up with an engineer who possesses the technical skills to mix and master my music so that is broadcast ready. As I listen to the myriad of musical pieces created by broadcast artists, the quality of mixes stands out to me; and I have to take notice. I am a musician first with limited engineering skills; but am dedicated to working on improving my mixes.
So once again, thank you for your endorsement; and keep up the great work.

God Bless you.

Peace!

found out today that a winery in Virginia has purchased a non-exclusive license for one of my (early) acoustic instrumentals. it will be the soundtrack to an online video campaign.

no pre-eminent emmy, no grammy, no champagne or red carpet, just an an honest to God sale for PGO Media Services. and, yes - PGO Media has sold two of the recent music beds along with other services.

with all due respect, those brave souls do not have to reveal what it is I do for them; nor, will I ever make claim to owning the process. love them for their trust. respect them for granting me an inside view. and, this is just the beginning; the beginning of new and most interesting adventures.

This week, I read a post by one of our long time members who recently reviewed a track and mentioned that the composer was extremely offended by his/her review. They publicly exchanged "pleasantries," so I decided to check out the track and the review. The review was right on and presented in a non-offensive way. The track was in no-way near "primetime" and would never be licensed or purchased in the current form. The reviewer offered some very easy and simple solutions to improve their work. However, the composer didn't want anything do with the suggestions and started trashing the reviewer, not only on Broadjam, but on other sites as well.

Years ago, I saw the Rolling Stones, Santana and Iggy Pop at the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit. On the way out, my friends and I were "giddy" like little kids because the show was so good. While we were waiting at a crosswalk, I heard a guy complain how terrible the Stones and Santana were. He went on to trash the guitar playing of Santana and the on-stage antics of Jagger. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded and wanted to talk some sense into him. But my common sense took over and I kept my mouth shut.

We all have opinions of music and that's all they are, just opinions. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. No matter what kind of art you create, someone will not like it. The goal is to get the majority of your audience to like it. If you can get private, constructive or de-constructive feedback from another, that is a good thing. Publicly trashing those who are trying to help will never advance your cause or make your music better.

So whether you are The Rolling Stones, Santana, Iggy Pop or a member on Broadjam, some will like your art and some will not. And if another person takes the time to review your art and provide private feedback, you should thank them for their time and move on. If you don't agree, thank them and move on. If they are abusive, let us know and move on.

Best of luck,

Roy

Nobody likes to be criticized, but if you are a songwriter, you have to have thick skin. If you don't , you should try something else. I just keep in mind that everyone has their own tastes, and as Paul Simon once said, one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

Very well said Roy and putting it all in context. Viva la difference, regardless of one's art. There needs to be honest, constructive criticism in order to grow. However, mean spirited remarks do nothing but cast a shadow on those who choose to voice such vitreal & cause the recipient pain and sometimes, feelings of defeat. Woe to the individual who would try to trash another's name or reputation, just because their own egos are so fraught with their own self importance.
Thankfully, the majority of the BJ community is caring, supportive & constructive with reviews & comments.

Great, realistic, and honest perspective. That is just what it is-one's perspective, opinion; all based on his/her experiences, skill set, and musical philosophy of pedagogy.

The beauty of this whole experience (that is belonging to a community of artists) is the fact that everything in life should be a learning experience that helps us all grow. But it behooves us to remember that- this, involves respect for one another; especially as musicians and artists.

We are special. God gave us the ability to touch the soul, move people, inspire people, and just plain jam for the masses. Man, if that don't humble and give you the urge to say "Thank you God"; then you might just need to stop and reflect.

Being an artist can sometimes make you feel like you're on a deserted island where no one can hear what you say (or even care about what you say) That should inspire and make you more determined. I've written plenty of songs that I felt should have received better reviews than they did. I had to regroup (and I admit-it was difficult at times) and look at the comments for what they were- constructive critiques. And many times, they were right on point; after I calmed down and really thought about what the critique.

Now, all great artists have experienced, at some time in their journey to greatness, criticism that could have made them just give up; but they believed in themselves and their music. They didn't let the critics deter them nor their dream. You might be the next great one. And if you are, believe it and keep the faith. But never let anyone make you lose your self dignity.

Peace!

Roy, you're writing above has so many lessons that could be applied to any roll in life. It's just some people are not and/or will never be ready to apply them. 1. Listen more, speak less 2. As John Fogerty wrote "you can't please everyone so you got to please yourself!" - I write for myself with as much honesty as I can! That's the cake; and if other's love it, that's the frosting! 3. For goodness sake, be grateful people!

dear collaborators: delays shall continue for a while as a recent trip to the ER uncovered that my esophagus is the antagonist causing all the stomach spasms, screw blood pressure, chest pains, and even my chronic soar throat all these many months. damn thing even kicks up when I try to play my harmonicas. who knew internal organs can be such music critics.

instrumentals are also on hold for a while as my guitar is currently unavailable. so, you'll have to put up with some remixes, remasters and friends adding performances to my existing tracks (which in many cases is an actual blessing).

so, stuff happens and I almost have enough for this year's Thanksgiving turkey. cranberry sauce is already taken care of as they drew blood 5 times (out of 7 attempts - ouch) and I can keep eating bacon 'cause my heart still functions at 100% capacity (yep, stress test, enzyme tests and a two trips under the strangest xray machine I have ever seen).

moral of this story - please take care of yourselves and don't be stupid brave like me just because you don't have insurance or a bunch of money in your pocket.

anecdote: one of the attending nurses said to me: "honey, the majority of us is gonna die in debt so don't you worry your heart about what all these test costs. just concentrate on being healthy. besides, money ain't the only thing you don't carry to the grave. . ."

she gave me a kiss on the cheek before wielding me up to the inpatient room. waiting for the elevator, she looked down and quietly said, "you let us worry whose gonna pay. believe me, you're a lot more important than money."

THX to you all. it all started last year as what I thought were simple bouts of the hiccups. then they would last for a couple days and I would sleep in a chair cuz I bounced too much in the bed. then the soar throat that won't go away and my first real scare back in the end of July while i was at the Indy Speedway. This time I couldn't swallow or breathe and almost passed out (saw stars, the white tunnel, angels singing, the works).

so, I got smart and went to the ER at St Vincent in Indy. (BTW: if you are ever in that town and need emergency assistance - INCREDIBLE STAFF). that had the IV in me, butt naked in one of those backless gowns (the older nurses kept winking) ad ready to go under for an endoscopy. good doc says give him a certain pill to relax the spasms. it worked. he said I would liv till morning, to call his office in the morning and I was allowed to head back to the hotel.

call in the morning, he's on the golf course and they would call me back with a time. oh, and did I have a designated driver as this was out patient and I would be "put under". time is set for 11AM after he is off the 18th green.

then I get this thought, procedure is now scheduled at a private clinic and wondering if they realize I have no insurance. ask the question; long, long pause; desk comes back saying, "no problem, we only require an $800 deposit and will bill the balance." I ask if they take BJ credits and our conversation ends.

so, I make the 8 hour drive back to the WNC mountains and life continues. once more, accept my apologies for chewing up so much of this blog cuz I want to hammer down a point.

money is not the root to evil.
it's our stubbornness.
our stubbornness to recognize that sometimes we just might need some from outside help.
and, that's okay - trust me.

Dear Peter,

I will say a special prayer for you. God bless you. Hope you feel better and resume to making beautiful music soon.

Dear Mr. Olach,
I am just curious. I have been following you sent you since you sent me (and I guess many other BJ members) your "Complicated Man" album for recommendations. Again, I enjoyed it immensely.
But that's not the reason for this communication. I notice that almost everyday, in my notifications section, where you have listened to a myriad of different music by other BJ members. Do I need to be on a special list for you to consider listening to some of my songs? I must admit- due to my busy schedule, I am not able to listen to as many different artists as I would like; but try to devote some time to that endeavor. There are so many talented artists/bands on BJ and I feel honored to be part of this unique family (and family it is) And I know, that there is still a lot that I have to learn about the engineering part of this industry. But, I am pleased and humbled that "Soldier" is still in the number 1 spot on the Rap-Religious charts, number 8 on the Midwest Top 1o, and number 4 on the Rap charts. Praise the Lord!
Please advise.

Respectfully,

Carl A. Peterson ("C" The Source)

Sing It

Written by: Carl A. Peterson

Intro:
Oh, I can't believe the things I see today.
All the war, all the bloodshed, is our world in such dismay?
But what about the children. What will their futures bring, if we can't learn to teach them about love and harmony.
Its time to come together.
Brother, we got to learn.
Why can't we come together?

(1st verse)
If we spent our time, giving love to all mankind.
Think how the world would be- a better place for you and me.
So why not strive for love.
Strive for love and strive for peace.
So we can live together in perfect harmony. If we

(Chorus)
Sing it. I want you to Spread it.
Joy to the world.
Love one another.
Sing it. I want you to spread it.
Joy to the world.
Love one another in harmony.
(Gotta be harmony)
Harmony

(2nd verse)
Take a look around.
That man's your brother.
No need to fight him.
We can live on earth together.
People, we gotta take a stand.
Take a stand to save this land.
Stop the fighting.
Stop the killing.
We got to save this world we live in.

(Chorus)

(Break)
We gotta break all the chains that make us hateful.
Learn to forgive and forget; and then, just let it go.
Focus your mind on the positive.
And never give in to the fears of the end, because love always wins in the end.
Love always wins in the end.
we got to learn to love one another.
Sing it. Spread it.
We got to learn to trust another.
Sing it. Spread it.
We got to learn to respect one another.
Sing it. Spread it.
We got to learn to help one another.
So we can save this world we're living in

many thanks to everyone in the BJam family who participated in the pick three challenge. amazing results to say the least. and amazing comments were also shared. one of the more universal comments was: 'I can't pick just three.' you can't imagine how much your thoughts mean to me.

here's a quick recap of how you 'voted' as a group. (this is) Our World was the number one pick, hands down. Almost Home was a close 2nd pick. and, I am so amazed that 7 of the 11 songs on the CD had an equal number of picks. even more gratifying is the fact that the other two tracks had no less than 5 picks as a top three contender.

perhaps I am fooling myself, but what you shared and how you voiced your picks gives me hope that the CD collection has a chance out in the marketplace; that there is something for everyone who takes the time to listen.

thank you so very much for your assistance and support. now, it's my turn to take what I have learned from you and work the system like I never have before. there is more news to come. there is so much more to sew and tend.

and, I can't help but believe in all good faith - this is just the beginning.

Hey Peter,

Sorry for the abrupt end of communication.
As I was saying, my favorite song was definitely "This is Our World." The guitar riffs were sweet. That's what I'm talking about brother! What a groovy, funky sounding song. I would have loved to have worked with you/produced this piece.
"Mistress of the Vein" would be a close second on my list. Loved the melody of this song. I loved harmonica in this song. Once again, the lyrics were captivating.
Now, here is where the task-choosing the third song- became difficult to say the least. I really liked "Complicated Man." I can really relate to that song. But at the same time, I started to reflect on the question- what makes a great folk? In my opinion, great folk songs (great songs period) are mostly remembered not just for their cool melodies but also for their classic and great lyrics. "Jackie" truly epitimizes this.
So, there you have it my top three.
Once again, this was not an easy task. I really enjoyed the album. If I may add, "Let you love grow" is another song that had a great melody and groove to it. Of all the songs on the album, this song probably had the commercial appeal to it (in the most complimentary way) I loved the powerful driving guitars in " Dark Horse Lover." I could go for days telling you how much I enjoyed every one of the songs on this album. I think you are an excellent songwriter with the rare gift to take your listener away and make them reflect, feel good, and see hope.

It was an honor!

Keep the faith! And keep making music!
