Hi Martin, Many thanks for your friendly and useful review of The Water is Wide. I've just been listening to some of your numbers. I particularly like Road Movie. It has quite some drive (appropriately enough). Not least the haunting chorus tune. It has just the right mix of the bleak and the cosy, and the guitar descant really sets it off. Happy New Year, Ian.

Martin...Sorry it has taken me awhile to get back to you .....Thanks for your review of The Wind Mirah....Being a woman singing what was a song sung by a man originally, I choose not to go for the high ending. Sorry about the wind synth sound...in actuality I did the wind sound with my voice....thought you might get a bit of a chuckle with that information....yours in music.

The feeling is mutual though what I've heard so far on your page seems quite a bit more polished. Finding music like yours is what makes BroadJam a great site to be on!

Hallo Martin, Thank you for your wonderful review of THE CROW, I am so happy that you think so well of it. It is just about my own favourite. I will now listen to your songs, and I would be really grateful if you'd hear a couple of my other songs. The reviews are so far apart, and there are so many of us here. We vacationed in Hertford a couple of years ago, in Ross-on- Wye - and liked it very much. Great Cider! Thanks again,
Birthe

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the kind review of my song, "I Wish I Could Heal". I am so glad that you enjoyed it. It comes from my CD, "Walking In Circles".

Having been writing songs and recording for almost 50 years, I have learned that some songs are more "radio friendly" than others. Indeed, this song is a longer compostion, but often a song takes on a life of it's own....and I have to let it "be" what it wants to "be".
I actually cut out a chorus to shorten it.

Anyway, stop by my website and listen to more tunes, if you like. We are ALWAYS open!

Best Regards,

Chet Nichols

Hi Chet,
Thanks for taking the review in the spirit it was meant, one thing I find frustrating about the review system is that you never know when you are going to try to "teach your grandmother to suck eggs" to coin a phrase...
A was obviously the case here... great song Ishall drop by and listen to some more

regards

Martin

I sorta agree with the blind reviews.... then again,
I like the candor and honesty of the reviews.

You had me at "Wow"!

Is it just me or does the review process seem flawed? I am consistenly getting scores which are contradicted by the comments (both +ve and -ve) eg.. "I WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ON THIS,IT'S INTERESTING AND DIFFEREN." - Originality of Song 2/5

maybe people have a hard time being honest or figuring out what they arent' liking. I reviewed armstice day logged on as evolving database, but this is my band, just so you can hear some material of mine.
If you listen you'll see that even though i have a lot to say, i stll have problems in some of my recordings, Some of the problems that I find, I have had, or am currently having. I don't use auto tune so i get imperfections. I make sure i try to use a click now and to select the best tempo for the song... which is somewhat trying at times.
Just wanted to say hey, and comment, let you know to Check out my stuff www.broadjam.com/merchantsofsolace and I have a website, a myspace and a youtube account. You'll find some of the same problems i've had in the past and now, but the end result is still music!
As for the review process, I'm enjoying it, but will see if it gets me and others results in the future.

Hi Martin,
I purposely left As the Sand austere in arrangement...the lyric in this tune was far more important TO ME than the actual music. Your comments are noted and I appreciate your detailed review. Happy new year!!!

Hey Martin, glad you got a kick out of Mothers of Teenagers, Unite. I wrote it as kind of a protest against our teens when they were home and messy. Now they are married and have kids of their own, and they are doing a LOT better. I have a lot of fun with that song singing it in older elementary or middle school assemblies. It usually get's the kids going, stamping their feet, whistling, etc. Very fun song. Thanks for appreciating it for exactly what it is. It was a live take. We did some editing and added bass. Your songwriting friend in FL (it's ccccccold here today 25!) Mrs. Kate

Hi Martin, Thank you for your thoughtful review of my song, "One Last Kiss." I think the glitch you hear is probably in my transfer to MP3 using iTunes. I have this out on CD and it was mastered in a studio by a very careful musician (Dennis Caplinger). Like you I record basic tracks at home but he mixes and masters and adds tracks. I listened to both Ordinary Man and Mr.O'Reilly and I admire your songs very much. Thank you again, Susan Nikas

Hi Martin! I really appreciated your review of my song 'Wishes', you are spot on with the instrumentation, I use synth instruments and am working hard to make them sound as good as they can be within my budget. I also thing it will sound better when it is professionally mixed and mastered, so the fact that you liked the song is very pleasing and makes me want to portray it as best I can!

Hi Martin, thanks for reviewing "How Blue". Ya, the timing did get funny on us, I think the lead guitar had probs making the switch. Practise makes perfect but we only had a day to get things done , live, and on two Roland Edirols....so, sometimes you take what you get :D

thank you so much for the nice review of SPARK AND RHYME. Kim wrote this and we also have an instrumental of it.
