Formed in April of 2004 by vocalist/guitarist Matt Mitchell and bassist Joe Hines, Breathing Aether experienced a slow and frustrating start when countless auditions and leads for a drummer and rhythm guitarist failed to produce a solid four-piece. The band would get a break in 2005 when Mitchell’s longtime friend, Shawn Farzam, enlisted on drums. Later that year Joe’s brother, Mike Hines, would become the group’s second guitarist and final addition when he joined the other members attending Michigan State University. With the completion of a full-length album in April 2006, Breathing Aether has been advancing their blend of modern and classic rock by leaps and bounds, with shows lined up out of state, an increasing number of venues under their belts, and playing alongside such national acts as Hinder and Greenwheel.

Biography

Calling the campus of Michigan State University home, Breathing Aether is an alternative hard rock band that spins cutting edge guitar work, intense and raw vocals together with a powerful rhythm section to create a dynamic sound that is ready to leave its mark on the music world.

Formed in April of 2004, Breathing Aether starts with Matt Mitchell, an East Lansing native who decided to stay in town to attend MSU. Responding to an ad on a student run website, Mitchell found bassist Joe Hines (Shelby Township native) and the two quickly connected musically and set about to finish the lineup. Lightning, however, did not strike twice as the same website that brought the two bandmates together lead them to dead end after frustrating dead end. Mitchell then called upon his long time high school friend, Shawn Farzam, to do him a favor and try to manage his busy course load and also be Breathing Aether's full time drummer.

"I knew he was the right fit for us," says Mitchell, "he's known me so long that he just has a sense for what I want out of the drums in every situation."

With the band seemingly in place, Mitchell still longed to express multiple guitar parts in songs like "Mirror Cracked" and "Many Reasons" and knew that another addition was needed. The answer came when Joe's brother Mike attended MSU in the fall of 2005.

"Mike was the perfect solution for the band," Mitchell recalls. "I couldn't ask for a better guitar player for our style and sound. The chemistry that we all share as a band is amazing, you can tell we are all having the time of our lives when we play music together."

With the completion of the lineup, followed by April 2006 release of their first full-length album, Breathing Aether is poised to embark upon their goal of spreading their infectious brand of music to the world.
