With nearly 500 solid songs, BOUVA is proving to be prolific--garnering awards from ASCAP five years in a row and earning the tag of one journalist as "a hope for pop music." MTV has featured their material in several of their shows, and more licensing prospects are in the works.

On the live scene, BOUVA was a featured main stage act at the VOODOO MUSIC FESTIVAL - sharing a bill with some of today's biggest bands including their idols Garbage and No Doubt. Other performing highlights include a special ASCAP singer/songwriter showcase, and a spot at Penn State's annual Movin' On Festival, opening for Wilco. They have also performed in various cities throughout the US--including Atlanta, Philly, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and of course, New York.

Josie Diels/BOUVA

Seamlessly combining elements of rock, trip hop, new wave, and a little bit of everything else, not to mention a singer-songwriter bent, BOUVA demonstrates a clear devotion and pride in their exposure and attraction to a broad range of influences. The result—an ultra accessible yet very original collection of songs that has people from all walks of life and age groups coming forth after their arresting, high-energy shows saying, “I felt that song was written for me.”

Setting out with a soaring, impassioned voice and introspective, insightful lyrics, BOUVA combined these elements with a lush, intricate soundscape to create their recently-released album, DONE. The 10-track album features a cross-section of the genre-hopping BOUVA oeuvre. From the sexy, fevered disco anthem, My Project to the passionate desperation of Got Me; the chilling confrontation of Nowhere Going Love to the darkly hopeful Dreams; the aching search in Empty Heart to the promise to get on with it in the title track Done, BOUVA has an uncanny ability to reach deep inside—making a mind, heart, and body move.

The core of BOUVA is singer/songwriter/pianist Josie Diels, along with guitarist/bassist/multi-instrumentalist Matthew McMullen Smith—who came to play, arrange, and produce the BOUVA repertoire. The duo hit the stages of the New York club scene, adding a level of spice in seasoned percussionist Luis Gomez. The BOUVA sound truly crystallized, however, when they found the missing ingredient to complete their vision in keyboardist Winston Jeune. Drummer Manuel Rhinesmith and bassist TJ Morton complete the line-up. And now, taking the BOUVA sound in a new direction, Josie has brought the piano in as a central figure.
