Glad you liked 'That Young Child'' - words adapted from 5C French carol. That's a pre-mastered version - end not trimmed. left it that way so people can sample it if they like.
Listening to your stuff - reminds me a bit of Matthew Sweet

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the nice review of my song, "Lonely Woman". It comes from my first album, "Time Loop". Lots of similar music on this album, so if you like it, stop by and check it out at my website at Broadjam.

I have had many folk rockers cover this tune which was written in 1968 and inspired during a hitchhiking trip I took from Oklahoma City to LA in 1967. The trip is chronicled in my first novel, "The Last Riders ON Route 66".

One thing I liked about the 60's music is that it was more freeform and, as songwriters, we could try new formats. "Lonely Woman", "Waving Prairie", "The Beetles Are Coming" and numerous other compositions I penned are good examples of this. John Fahey, a good buddy of mine (RIP), loved the intro to "Lonely Woman".....and it was the first song we would play together when we would get together and jam.

When I first started writing, my first songs were ultra-radio friendly.....nothing over 3:00. Over the years, I've written so many songs that run from 1:45 to 10:50.... As you probably know, when you start writing, "the song takes over"......so I just let it be what it wants to be.
These days, I am more about writing album cuts.....since there are so few places that play great singer-songwriter work except Sirius XM.

Anyway, I am rambling....need my second cup of joe!

God Bless,

Chet Nichols

Hi Bob - thanks for your thoughts on "Calling All Dummies." You're right that there's a lot of different ways it could be done and probably many an improvement to be made. But it's satire and, as such, so uncommercial that we'll probably just leave it lay for now. I wrote it with Tom Chapin for NPR's Morning Edition, we put it out on a duet album called BROADSIDES and I only posted it on Broadjam b/c of a film opportunity it seemed right for.

I see you're a Mass folkie. Maybe our paths will cross one of these days. I gig up in the New England folk world quite a bit, in part because of a Massachusetts-centric comedy song of mine called "Entering Marion." I look forward to checking out your stuff when time allows. My best to you. John
