Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

Hey Penny,
Have you had summer yet, or do you have the 14 out of 15 days of rain that we’ve had here in CT? OY!
Ian,
Black Hole- no, not Mrs. Pappy, thankfully.
I don’t think there’s a place in the competition for Pappy this year 6-PK. Too bad, too, he’s got a new internet business going online soon:
PappyJohnsonsRoadside9-Dollar-Pizza-buy-the-bite-we-deliver-anytime.net (.com was already taken)-LOL

PT, your contemplation of the human condition was so well expressed and really quite beautiful. a song of sorts in it’s own way. We write ourselves to connect and we listen to the lives and dreams of others through their music. It sparks a million thoughts and touches on layer upon layer…
Jun 18, 2009/10:09 pmI find myself contemplating the human condition.
Fragile… simple… children we all are.
We pose as this concept of “adult” when in reality we are all as weak and fragile as the children we all once were. Just a little older and wiser for it…
Human… flawed, emotional, susceptible… undeniably human.
God… I listen to all of this amazing material and feel the nature of me bubbling up from the depths of what I consider to be something worth anything….
All of us reaching out… pushing in… begging for some form of acceptance in the art we produce.
How can any of us truly give less than a 5 outa 5 for one another’s work?
I stand here, himulated, empowered, and truly challenged by all of you….
I can only hope my own art… is worthy of your respect.
Often I feel shamed by my lack of substance… my lack of passion… my lack of….
Humanity.
So often do I listen to all of your work and truly know the meaning of humbleness.
I just needed to say that… I have so much respect for so many of you.

Jun 18, 2009/9:43 pmUh oh…
I think Elu’s on to me…

“WHY GOD WHY!?!?!”

Jun 18, 2009/5:55 pmI honestly never knew how many talented professional, inspiring and friendly musical types resided here at broadjam. so very cool. Now let the ass kicking begin! heh!
My two cents for those people who give negative reviews…sometimes a negative review is a rude awakening to an awkward truth. Warrented in other words, however sometimes it’s someone who doesn’t have the slightest clue that their music sucks or their production values are poor at best. Those who watch “American Idol” know those types…the ones who actually think they can sing while the rest of us cringe on the couch with our mouths hanging open thinking OMFG! what the hell was that!!??…and then they put everyone else down.
I’m up for getting a negative review if it’s based on fact and not personal preference. Bad reviews, taken to heart, are what got me from recording crappy music in my living room on a $150.00 synthesizer and a 4 track recorder to becoming a voting member of the recording academy…and there seems to be a more than a few people here that have some serious musical abilities. It’s a wonderful thing to see.
Taken to heart, I would only give a bad review to someone who has not taken the time to hone their craft. If it sounds like it came off an old Casio or Yamaha keyboard and the vocals lack luster or feeling and the song lacks quality and or a proper arrangement..then you got to realize you are going to get a bad review. If your vocal work is not up to snuff, or you drown you music in a sea of effects or your guitars sound thin and over processed…you’re gonna hear it! I’m not going to tell you to pack it up and go home, but I’m going to tell you to work on it and make it better.
For those who can’t wait to critique my work…lol….I uploaded my newest track last night, “World Inside Out”. Will finish up another one first part of next week.
Jun 18, 2009/4:39 pmIan:
I’m just grateful I managed to get everything in before the deadlines so I won’t have to compete against myself as often this year…
I managed to hold the number 2 spot in 1 and All (1 can) for a few weeks last year (as you already know)… but that all came to a crashing end quickly though, and Margaret McClure pulled through at the last second to claim the ultimate victory by ousting the competition yet again.
She’s so sexy and talented, I’m literally on fire whenever I get a random email from her, her producer Andy is one hell of a gifted guy too… So lets not rule him out this year either.
I’ve been reviewing so much great stuff since the last six pack… I swear… Its gonna be a challenging uphill battle to claim the throne this year. I’m just going with the spray and prey approach myself.
We’ll see though… We’ll see.
Elu:
Love song to end all love songs eh?
I don’t know… I just got done talking to a very talented and smoking awesome Anita Andreis, and there may be room in the cards for our own little masterpiece in the near future. Check out one of her amazing tracks here…

Yeah… Feel free to melt at any point.
I know I was melting prior to ever hearing her sing… She’s an accomplished composer and has a true gift most people can only marvel at. I’m envious to be honest.
I hope we get a chance to do something great together. I know working with Phoebe has opened my tiny brain to a world of wonderful opportunities.
What can I say though… I love working with the ladies. Especially when they’re more gifted than I am… It gives me a chance to ride their talent for a while, you know? (Puts on sunglasses and smiles) Hahaha…
Anyhow… Have a great day all!!!
Cheers:)

Jun 18, 2009/12:18 pmProtilius…
We shall see how the IT mics work out. I will be using a Sure product on vocals as well. I am venturing into a separate reality with my next one…not a song title from a past Elu album mind you…a separate but equal reality to my own, with your’s truely on vocals. The love song that will end the need for any future love song.
See you in the ring my friend.

Jun 18, 2009/10:27 amThe competition itself isn’t bad… but the score board they’re gonna put up…
#$%@ing Evil as all hell.
YEH! I said it!
THE DEVIL!
MWaaaa….
Anyhow… Another week, another drunk wednesday:)
I actually didn’t get balls to the wall drunk by 2pm this week, you’d be proud:)
Couple friends and I hung out all day playing the new Ghostbusters game!!!!!!! WHO HOOOOO!!!
It was so much fun. Dan and Harold got up and wrote the script themselves I guess, and being they never made a ghostbusters 3, I guess Dan was saying that this game was IT!
Ghostbusters 3… And the coolest part about it is its ten times longer than a film can ever be… So its more like Ghostbusters 3,4,5, and 6 all in one:)
We were having a great time catching ghosts, listening to Bill’s witty one liners, and blasting Stay Puff with a nuclear particle accelerator:)
Great stuff… I was drunkingly blasting explode-able objects all day!!!!
Can’t ask for a better day lounging around and accomplishing nothing!
Hope all is well for everyone.
The hangover isn’t so bad today:)
Cheers:)

Welcome SteroBurn! The six pack blog is a lot of fun and the competition itself isn’t bad either;)
Jun 17, 2009/12:40 pmNot surprisingly I finished mixing Too Late too late last night. I still need to wake up to make that sound funny…but I did upload it for your listening pleasure if you like to get kicked by some seriously hard rocking beat.
Anyway, still haven’t reviewed anything again but I will, I promise! I second the motion to create an embedded player so I could actually listen to stuff at work. Pop-up player is blocked
Oh, for those who don’t know me, I’m Nils. Nice to meet y’all.
Jun 17, 2009/10:45 amWell… I put it out.
Nothing but time (Rarified 2009)
The coolest aspect of the song is the hardest to hear. I need to retrack the whole “Error, overload, does no compute” parts. That or bring the entire mix down to leave some room for it in the dynamics.
Otherwise its fun… And no… Its not exactly a commercial production.
Think Industrial nails… with a few Protilius twists.
Cheers:)

Stereoburn:
(dark ominous voice from Gragnat)
“Joooooooin Ussssssssssssssssss…..”
Elumusic:
If a challenge is what you seek… Then challenge you shall have.
“From the world of Industrial Troll I present to you IT-57!!!”
Protilius pulls the curtain from a large stage revealing three microphones connected to cables swinging around the stage like live cobras. The bulbs of the mics have been replaced with tiny snapping steal maws with the ability to record. Their internal gears grind as wires stretch and zap with electricity with every sway.
“Fresh off the IT lines, these mics have omni directional flat response rate to all of your screams of horror!”
“And for your next challenge!!! You’ll need to record a 40 second chorus with these beauties!!!”
Mwahaha…
I can’t wait to release my next one.
You won’t believe what your hearing.
Mwahahaha… MWAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Cheers:)
