Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

Well said. PT you are right It is better than the news! The more positive human good news reports we can get the better. It gives the sense that things are possible , good things and we are not just doomed.
Jul 27, 2009/7:48 amMags, Yes it’s true, what goes around comes around, especially when one acts selflessly. Good on ya, Mags. I’m sure your gift will ease your neighbour’s burden a little bit. It’s the kind of burden I’d never want to have. Your gift is probably like mana from heaven to her right now.
Jul 27, 2009/5:25 amMags:
Synchroncity.
I read about it once in an interesting read called “Celistine Prophecy.” (may have miss spelled a few things there.)
They made a crappy B-Rated flick on a lot of the incredible ideas in that book, I say avoid it until you read the book.
Anyhow…
Its beautiful when people are balanced enough to simply fall into the clockwork of life. Its ohhhhhhhhh so rare too…
Its kinda funny when I think about it.
When you mention having an elevator… for however long you had it… you start to remind me of an actual super hero living in a duplex/loft or something.
“Lipstick” just took on a whole new meaning for me. Adds a level of personality to you…
What you did was extraordinary (concerning the elevator… that crap can’t be cheap.)
And yes… Karma works when you don’t do things over selfish motives.
A lesson I’ve yet to master… Although on occasion can shine in.
BUT AN ELEVATOR!?
Thats beyond cool… beyond kind… thats simply righteous (in Phoebe’s favorite choices of vocabulary.)
Whow…
I’m just picturing Lipstick girl loading on her equipment and guns while riding an elevator down to the secret garage.
She checks her holsters for extra clips, just to be sure, and hops onto that custom Harley with a gleam in her eye.
“I’m coming with a boot with your name on it…”
Haha… Well, something tells me you’re more family orientated.
….
…
..
.
An elevator.
I just simply can’t imagine “owning” one of those.
Thats pretty cool Marg. That was just an awesome, random, cool thing to throw out there.
Especially how synchronocity took care of everyone involved. I like that part.
Its good to hear of your fortune, and the kindness concerning what you did as well, its better than the news…
Cheers:)
Jul 27, 2009/3:11 amWell Done Mags!…..Excellent!!!
Jul 27, 2009/2:31 amHey Mags that’s a great story to share. Happy you won and glad for the woman who needed the elevator!
Jul 26, 2009/10:25 pm“Today i gave my elevator away”
yes thats right… “elevator”… the previous owner of my house was handicapped and could not walk down the two flights of stairs to get from the garage to the front door.. so there was this big fat ugly freight elevator in my garage.it was handy when i moved in but really.the only time i used it was at the frequent open mics andy and i host (many of you have attended) or when our band would play at my house ..we would load all the heavy PA and equipment in the elevator so we didnt have to schlepp it up the steep stairs ……..huge pain in the a%$ !!
one of my neighbors has a 35 year old sister / mother of 2 who is loosing her ability to walk because of MS .and she asked me if i ever wanted to take it out .would i consider giving it to them (they could not afford to buy one ) i guess i could have sold it on craigs list (and get enough cash to buy a new PA system and keep it upstairs)……..but i thought about it and decided to give it to her anyway ..i felt like it was the right thing to do .. and we can walk up the stairs …who cares ..right?? so we scheduled her husband to rent a truck and remove it for late july … and they were very grateful…
shortly after that i got a call from “jesse the mind” letting me know that i won the broadjam song of the month contest ….just happened to be the one month with the whole “Berringer” PA system as a prize!!!…i didn’t even remember what song i had entered… but good thing i did! ..were talkin monitors, 4 speakers, a killer mixer ,a feedback eliminator , mics, mic stands and more !! it is PERFECT and it sounds unreal!! now i have a perminant PA set up in my living room… they delivered the PA last month on a big pallet and it was the last thing to ride in up the elivator at this location!!
sometimes what goes around really does come around………
thanks Broadjam and Berringer.. this will go to good use !!! and so will my elevator !!
Jul 26, 2009/8:50 pmxoxo,
Mags
Yeah… 3 can is protiliusville isn’t it?
Sorry… I expected more submissions to compete against.
Last year I was reviewing forever in 1 can and the end never came for me. I guess in many regards, I was hoping… Thinking… That I’m not gonna be the only guy laying down like I did this year in 6 pack.
I’m kinda dense like that.
3 Can is what I do well it would seem… and I was always a little bitter that I felt like there was no place for a soundtrack guy in competitions like these after 08.
So… Without the likes of the seemingly unoustable lyricist, vocalist, and full throtal productions in my way… I made sure I wasn’t going to be falling off the leaderboard too quickly.
To hell with it. I get to finally let my work compete against music with a similar format!!! (Jumps up and down excitedly.)
So yeah… Welcome to Protiliusville. The work kicks ass… especially if you don’t just click at 1 minute and call it a review. But a lot of you have been kind enough to keep up with my work this last year… so yeah… you kinda are screwed if its not your cup of tea.
I know what way too much of anything can do to a person… But I REEEEEALY feel that way about 2 Can. A lot of stuff there is like my 50th helping of cookie doe, and what kills me most, is the work is from different artist… and I still can’t handle more than two blocks of reviews because despite the nuggets here and there, a lot of it “does” sound the same.
At least I vary my themes from classical to electronica to industrial.
Most artist don’t do that… They just stick to one thing and really push that format.
I on the other hand do not. So it could be worst I guess…
Anyhow… This is the last year I pound the submissions like I did. If you guys can bare with me… You can take comfort in knowing it won’t go down like this “with me at least” again.
But the work really isn’t all mine… Really! (smiles innocently.)
And no Marg… I’m not offended:)

Jul 26, 2009/6:22 pmian,
i got it !!
And ya know bloggers ……..i really really wish someone could re-post “scott james” brilliant analogy from the 07 6-pack blog . . regarding “cookie dough” and no matter how good and sweet and wonderful it is .. if you eat to much of it … you just want to puke… and you really don’t want any more for a while …. if ever….
maybe scott can dig that up for us … but the cookie factory’s probably aint gonna listen anyway…
and since i don’t ever do any of those little smiles and winks …and blog posts can be taken as hostile even when they are not meant to be.. picture me smiling in a friendly loving way right now… and don’t your shorts all twisted up…
have a nice day… mags

Jul 26, 2009/11:17 amThat moment with MJs daughter wrenched my heart too and made me cry and you can see a light in that young girls eyes. I think she will do something tremendous in her life in some area.
Jul 26, 2009/10:23 amThe greed in the Florida case, shocking and hard to comprehend. I don’t believe in Capital punishment but cases like that sometimes tempt me to. Obama situation, understandable and human somehow in my view.We take in so much media it both inspires and overwhelms…I can’t watch too much news past 8:00 PM or I lie awake til 3:00 pondering the inner workings of mankind and the outer limits….We hear so much more than the farm boy of a hundred years ago. News arrives fast and in graphic detail, not just from the next county but from the farthest reaches.
Ian is right… every time I walk away from this blog I feel like nothing happens.
Its a shame… because I’d think with so many brilliant minds out there…
There would be more to discuss.
I think half of the reason I’ve been so vocal about useless BS is being I just like to see more perspectives interacting with the world.
Here’s a topic starter or two.
I think its interesting how Obama over reacted to that situation with the cop, and I think an apology was a really cool thing to throw out there.
That couple in Florida that was murdered … you know, the couple that adopted the children with downs syndrome and took care of all those handicapped orphans… Well… That was just #@$!ed up.
I really hope those several trailer park trash individuals that murdered them over a safe get the chair…
I think the way Jackson’s daughter spoke about her father in a brief ten second period made me cry like a little bitch…. That was the most believable, precious, and heart felt ten seconds I’ve ever seen another person go through on television.
Ok… Have at er gals and guys… Somebody talk society, music, or how society is gonna affect the music they produce.
I need some perspective from the outside world right about now… And I know you guys have a little to offer.
Cheers:)
Jul 26, 2009/7:23 ampro
Yes, it is interesting, who knew?
Jul 25, 2009/2:23 pmInteresting literature…

Jul 24, 2009/10:52 pmElk has spoken…
Haha:)
I’ll go first… BLAST ME BABY!!!
http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=61621&mediaID=444542
MIDI is soooooooo easy to manipulate.
And no… this won’t be my “original version.” This would be the cookie cutter version.
Just wanted to show how easy it is to throw something together and put it out there. This one took me four hours… But I’m sure you guys will come up with something a lot more artistic in nature.
I know I will when time permits…
Cheers:)
