Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

Nov 24, 2009/5:26 amI found something that moved me…
Who are you?
http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.php?play_file=69531_453740&review=true&playsource=review
I wrap myself in your subtle nuances only to melt in your simplistic truth and bidding…
How I lie awake echoing your presence into my consciousness… loving every moment of it.
Like a comfortable blanket it consumes me… Provides me warmth.
“Set me free…”
Can I remix you free of charge?

You get your very own post…:)
You have a beautiful soul Steiny.
Thats all I think I need to say.
Simply beautiful.
I love your work and see promise in what you offer as a musician. Incredible promise…
Warmest regards:

Tech, Morgan… I loved both of your rants/viewpoints. Made me laugh outloud in both cases.
Tech… I Promise I’ll start writing lyrics more like I do posts. It was an my list of stuff to do when I get over my pity party.
Marg… Are you flirting with me? LOL
Don’t worry… I’ve learned to take things in the best possible light with you. Besides… you wouldn’t be any fun if you didn’t give me a good kick in the ass every now and then. At least you’re friendly about it:)
Peter… Pick a fight eh?
Here goes…
Screw you.
You’ve already been here… you’ve already seen it. You know whats happening with so much shit… it simply blows my mind. You’re like Roy… but look more like Sean Conery in pictures.
You see things in “end game” mass effect most of the time. Have warned me of “every problem I’ve faced” and yet…
Here we are… Two angry sons and an unwilling father to look after them.
Whatever… Johnny can have his ideals. He is entitled to an opinion… I from this point on should likely “Silently disagree” with Johnny.
You are right… We’re shitting in our front lawn by doing such things.
Bruce:
Valid ideas there. A pill some may have trouble swallowing…. but something we may all have to accept hen dealing with high profile competitions like this one.
David:
Maybe I can redeem some of your faith this year… I hope so.

Mendelsohn wrote Song´s without words (lied ohne worte or smth),,, I guess he was stupid.
I think this debate is so stupid, I do agree though that lyrics should be a big part and without writing lyrics you have no chance here, however to lament about instrumentals is to me and many others here offending, especially since you racists can just vote them out of the table. However I try to respect other´s way of thinking even if I don´t agree with it.
The Protilius vs. J.Uk I say this, why on earth do you spend time mouthing each other off, can´t really see the point, and it´s funny to say that this time J. Uk you were over the line I think with Nathaniel counting up to at least 4 before he took part in the spit contest. It´s accepted today to use loops and Protilius does it very well, he has also a great talent for mixing his songs. However, ppl that only use loops and add nothing are very easy to spot, he however adds a lot of interesting musical ideas (most of the time) and is in my opinion one of the best talents I´ve met here on broadjam, only if he stopped being so angry in his mind and music he could maybe make things more “mellow” once in awhile.
In the end I hope people don´t start badmouthing samples, because without them I could not do anything, I use piano samples a lot cause I can´t afford to pay 3000$ for mics and go all the time somewhere where there is a grand piano to register. I have a corner in my house where I have computer, 1 mic, 1 master keyboard and a cheap Motu ultralite soundcard. I still consider what I make to be music and my hope is someone likes something I do enough to want to maybe record it in a real studio with real people.
And my day job is classical musician and choir director but I can only play organ, piano, harpsichord, which in a way is the same thing. I however would like to learn guitar cause I think without guitar you have a hard time in the 6-pack

David And All:
First of all David, I love your stuff and yes You do write songs! I have several of yours on my “Top Songs”.
I have to say something that I has been on my mind. If there is one thing for certain its this: We all judge differently.
Let me explain. When this years six pack began, I submitted a song in the first category, then the second. Originally, I thought these songs would do quite well. Yikes was I wrong! They tanked with a capitol “T”!
Instrumental category was different. Those of you who know my music, know that one of my main strengths is vocals. I consider that I am average instrumentally. Lo and behold, I entered ONE song and it was number one for at least several days, and held in the top twenty for months. Now can someone tell me how that makes sense? The fact is, what I saw (or heard) was something totally different than what others saw. With some of my tunes, I think “Man I nailed that one” when in fact it goes to the dreaded abyss. One category, I thought “How in the heck do I compete with that” – only to discover that I am 400 points ahead of them! As of this writing, I am currently 26th and have been flirting with the top twenty for quite sometime. But mostly, doing well in one category that I wasn’t sure how I would do, especially after I heard the competition!
When we have our songs up for regular review, we get that email that says “Update: Your song has been reviewed” and we get a little lump in our throat. The thing is, we see how they scored it because they told us WHY. With this contest, we will NEVER know why. We look at our computer screen and are left scratching our heads saying “how am I doing so well” or “how am I doing so poorly”? The answer? WE DON’T KNOW AND WE WILL NEVER KNOW. This contest is to me the great mystery. I will never know why someone gave me a good, average or bad vote. It just happens that way. At the end of the day we are left seeing the top twenty with a bunch of numbers.

Nov 23, 2009/11:58 pmHi David! Your songs are captivating and beautiful.Much loved by many….Have missed you on here…xox
Nov 23, 2009/11:56 pmposting the Wikipedia definition of what a “song” is, is pretty close to that award. That’s always been a pet peeve debate of mine. Saying that I don’t write songs is insulting to me and a lot of other people out here. Yes, Stein and I do some singing from time to time. If I had more time for this contest instead of dealing with multitudes of moving and family issues, I probably would’ve entered this year. But I will say one thing, I would not have won. I would not have come anywhere near the top 20 of this contest because a good chunk of my music is instrumental.
Even with the advent of an instrumental can this year, it still doesn’t matter Troy. Three years ago, when I did enter the contest, I was excited, only to find out that every song I’d entered, died a quick death because they are instrumentals. Even in a can that was called “Move Us”, move the person emotionally. The whole stupid SONG debate came up and most people voted down instrumentals, when they were allowed to be entered.
Sorry to go off about the song thing, but its one of the many reasons I have not entered this contest over the last two years. Other than some friendships that I’ve developed, the contest itself left a very bad taste in my mouth.
