Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

I got him in such a bear hug he can’t move!!!
Nov 23, 2009/8:44 pmWow…such tension..Can I just say before I leave this place tonight, that music, like all art is subjective. A painter may say that photography is not art, etc..
Isn’t the point to try to show ourselves in the music..come up with something interesting and original? Yes, the 6 pack is a tad contaminated and not entirely fair..BUT again (Johnny), lets not attack others for what they do or don’t do in their music.I use loops too, because I can’t play an instrument. So what can I do if I dont have a collaborator? Doesnt make me a bad songwriter. All samples were played live at some point and I’ve poured alot of money into ProTools and my equipment and all the goodies that come with my Mac.
Using things like Garage Band help us put together music inexpensively and custom to a clients needs. Which is what we are supposed to do. The quality I get is master quality most of the time unlike some of the “real musicians” who just dont have the studio or mix budget. You know? Entire movies are scored with samples. A good string sample is a staple of any movie music composer on a time crunch.
There are alot of people in the top 20 that put very little effort into creating something new and exciting and yes, some people have 4,000 songs uploaded and they are ALL basically the same. But it just makes us look petty to name call or ridicule.
I don’t submit to opportunities here anymore, because once you pay your fee, you are done. You never hear anything else about your submission. It’s judged and rated by non industry people as well, but I digress. But, I too have have many songs licensed through other opportunities, including Taxi.
So, should we really care at this point if we are in the top ten? No..”Besame Mucho” is one of the dumbest songs ever made and I refuse force myself into a “Can” that I don’t belong in lol.
Soooo, on that note..I gotta go..”TAXI!”
Peace.
Nov 23, 2009/8:42 pmWell expressed Peter…music to my ears…I will take Peter on right now all by myself BLOG BEAR HUG (((((((PETER))))))))
Nov 23, 2009/8:39 pmOkay. . . I know I should leave this alone. But, my nature doesn’t allow me because I see two very honest and decent individuals, artists in their “OWN RIGHT”, casting harm upon each other and making hapless statements.
MY CHALLENGE: Take me on. Both of YOU. Make me the one to blame. Spew at me. I have multiple entries. I have used loops on a couple of submissions. I play a real instrument, actually many. I am opinionated, outdated and forward thinking. I never did covers before but participated in Can 5 (and enjoyed every note of it).
I admire the fervor you both display and yet hate, Yes HATE, how you rub our noses, my nose, in your business. Constantly and repeatedly and with complete disdain even when one or more of us have asked you to cease.
This is our home, too. And, unless the rest of the 7th Can wish to tell me or you different, this is a place for exchange, not hate.
This is our neighborhood, all of us, from around the world. How special our citizenship is. And, digital or not, so many have set up house on the beloved streets of the 7th Can.
Freedom to speak one’s mind must never be compromised. But, drive by shootings aimed at another members home (virtual or not) must at least be questioned.
This is no joke. So many of us have our hearts invested into this neighborhood. And, that includes you, both of you. And, all of us. Let’s never forget what we do and say here reflects upon all.
as always, your friend in music, PGO.
Nov 23, 2009/8:15 pmand yes… I am available for hire:)
Nov 23, 2009/7:32 pmJohhny:
I play electric guitar… spanish classical guitar… and even some folk.
When I was young I practiced the violin for 3 years before my parents divorced and my mother was crippled in an accident. I gave up violin being I sold it to feed my family one month. What can I say… Dad wasn’t around and Mom was laid up in a bed.
I play piano… modestly. But I do it well enough that fixing it in MIDI later produces fantastic results.
I can read and write music… Which is more than most DJ’s could ever offer.
I know more about signal flow than you likely know about programming your VCR… Thats for certain…
I’m trained in producing on several DAWs… If you know what that stands for… and am a certified operator in Pro-tools.
I have shaken hands with several platinum artist… and have the ear of one in particular.
I have 14 tracks resting in the hands of numerous licensing firms.
Am pressing an album in January…
and could give two damns about some stupid ass that thinks he knows everything.
Get over yourself…
Any… day… now…
Nov 23, 2009/7:28 pmThe only thing getting screwed over in here are the wonderful talented artists who have spent many years learning their instrument. what instrument do you ACTUALLY play? i don’t think dance ejay comes with an acoustic piano or guitar.
Nov 23, 2009/7:10 pmJohnny
Spank…
Nov 23, 2009/7:00 pmOh shucks…
I guess you’ve proven me wrong with you’re eloquently spoken logical reasoning of facts an tid bits yet again Johnny.
You’re the smartest person I know… so I thank you for showing me the way Johnny. I confess… You would know better than I ever could. Cause you’re a teacher right? (god help the children.)
You’re right Johnny… Maybe I should just roll over and die? Thats what you’re trying to accomplish here right? Get Protilius to just erase his account and run away? Go cry to mom cause “He called me ejay!!!”
Cause I really don’t see a point to your ranting other than pure hostility over your inability to process reality… No point what so ever.
Get a better education… stop being ignorant… and learn how to love Johnny.
Get you’re head straight.
So what… a few artist dumped a lot of tracks into this competition. Deal with it. If it works so well… maybe you should do the same. you’ve got 20 tracks… do it. Or don’t you believe in yourself?
Is that why you’re so cruel? Because you’re ashamed of something and now you need to punish anyone you think you can get away with terrorizing? Just to feel better? About what? Do you really alk away from this blog feeling as if you’ve done “good” in the world by being a prick?
My life is hell and you don’t see me rolling people over for a quick ego trip do you? Save you… because you just make it so damned easy. “Grab you’re ankles bitch!”
In the meantime… feel free to go screw yourself… Its the only love you’ll ever know with an attitude like that, at least, the only kind of loving you wont have to pay for. Haha…
(Throws back the tissues.)
Be sure to clean up your mess when you’re done. Nobody likes a dirty slob…
Nov 23, 2009/6:57 pmCrap is crap as i learnt at an early age.
Nov 23, 2009/6:38 pmSo no matter what the end result is online in here i do know when crap actually is crap.
Thats me being Totally honest to YOU. deal with it! (hands tissues back) your gonna need them.
I promised Peter I’d stop… but.
Johnny.
Lighten the $#%@ up will you?
All of those big points are only up there because everything needs to be averaged yet.
Just do like Steiny said and CHILL.
Be patient.
Regarding this “Same track 3 times” business… well…
“KARATI CHOP!!!”
It wont last…
Nov 23, 2009/6:32 pmThere are so many talented artist in this contest. question? will they be involved next year? BIG no to that!
Nov 23, 2009/6:25 pmWhy? because whats the point? seriously why would ANYONE enter the contest next year knowing we have rewarded multiples of ten x ten the someone over great song. REAL songfwriters arn’t stupid. period! but in all honesty when the same 3 songs from the very same dance ejay user comes up in review what choice do we have to make? there gonna get 3 points no matter what we think right? lol and that blame does not fall not on the person who uploaded them but on broadjam for allowing it to happen. The feature page for this years winner if it happens are gonna have to be great at PR to lie their way outts this one!
Hands Johnny box of tissues.
“Here Johnny… You need these more than I do.”
Nov 23, 2009/6:16 pmand, with that. I bid all a good night.
