The ’09 6-Pack Contest Is On!

Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.

As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.

You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.

As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!

So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.

The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.

Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

After a night of tweaking out “Nothing,” I’m heading in to work to open my watering hole.

I must have spent an hour or two chopping vocals and fixing timing issues, still rough in a few spots yet, but its shaping up nicely and I’m proud of what’s been done already.

I’m thinking about shopping it to a few submissions cautiously. Could use some professional feedback for those who have the time… Although I think I’m already aware of the big problems that could be better off.

    June 9th:

(protilius hiding in a closet, a sole flashlight lighs his face up in a tight and dark box.)

“I let the troll out last night… I had to get some Rarefield material going.

I’ve been trapped in here since last night… I can hear screams occasionally coming from the other room, but the most disturbing moment came earlier, I think Gragnat ate a cat or something around 4am… It was horrifying.”

    ……..

You know you’re driven when you become a master at improvising you’re way out of impossible circumstances.

Tracking vocals in an apartment isn’t really an option in my world.

So… Being I happen to have keys to the bar I manage… I took advantage of the empty, acoustically diverse, and spacious bar to track some more Reznorish vocals.

(Protilius sits at the bar… Digi-003, MacbookPro, and lyrics neatly laid out across the counter. Scotch in one hand, Microphone in the other…)

Still suck when it comes to Platinum performance…

Still rule when it comes to being #$%@ing awesome.

    Check it out…

    BJ:

Oh… And for the love of Allah, Buddha, Zues, God, or what ever the latest fad is…

    Shuffle the tracks.

Pretty please? I even got them in prior to reviews starting just for that reason.

    Randomize that stuff!!!!

I know not going against myself in reviews is unreasonable with so many submissions… But can we keep it to two out of three?

I hope thats one of he mechanics you mentioned in your blog Roy. It would be cool to see that.

And transparency… I’d like to see that too.

Ok… Hope all are well on this fine Monday.

    Cheers:)

    June 8th 3:20am Madison WI:

Just got off of a wonderfully laid back bartending shift. Had a little scotch and am currently moving on to greener pastures in the confines of my wonderfully isolated project studio.

Currently I let the “Burdens and lies (instrumental)” ride through my headphones and am slowly tweaking out an engineering masterpiece… Oh yeah… Can you feel it?

    Broadjam.com/protilius

This instrumental is so hot… I’m forced to roll in the dirt to keep it from burning me alive!

Oh… and Gragnat is due for a wake up call anytime this week. What Next?

Be weary my vary respectable ladies and gentlemen… Enter the BJ 6-Pack blog at your own risk, I have no idea what this Troll will do when he wakes up.

I’ve medicated him with a case of walker blue, but its almost out, and after prep-investing into the six pack neurotically, madly, and insanely… I have no idea what I’ll feed this guy to keep him away from the 3 can…

    So…

    Expect the unexpected.

    The unimaginable…

You will know entertainment… This I promise those who have yet to listen.

  • Protilius's comment is:

Yeah, I felt like this year was rushed too…

    Theory:

More Primo Mob subscriptions expire in Aug/sep than Sep/Nov/Dec this year.

BJ could just be leaving room for more people to join the six pack prior to expiring subscriptions…

Or they could be trying to make up for lost revenue over a wild weekend in Vegas.

Oups… “How were we supposed to know the Bunny Ranch charged by the girl!?!?!? Screw it! Host the 6-Pack a few months early!!! Bring on the babes!!!!”

    ROFL…

    Or not.

eer…..whats happened to the 6 pack….lol….its not the…erm….well….it aint the same….lol…2 months to submit and 2 months to review…and only runs to September…

    that’ll cut down the submitions…and Bjam revenue….
and no mention of the Grand prize….not that it will make any difference to me…lol…not this year….but anyways…it kinda looks like Half the Comp it was….or have I missed something…?
Aha…we’re doin’ another one right after…?

    Laterererererer…Ian.

  • Protilius's comment is:

It would seem “Bad Love” songs are the only kind of love songs in my portfolio unless they’re instrumentals.

    God bless ya Phoebes…

Does it have to be happy “We’re in love” or can it be not so happy “Why do I *$%#ing love you so much!?” Kind of songs too?

Hmmm…. Its a risk… To submit “Bad love” or not?

I was actually thinking about writing a love song about how much “I’d love to be single.”

I was gonna spend three verses talking about all the ways I’ve been screwed by love, and then save he choruses for “I LOVE, I JUST LOVE BEING SINGLE WITH-Outtttttttttttt YOU!”

    (Smiles deviously…)
