Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

Nov 23, 2009/3:45 pmThats the 5th nurse this week Peter…
Nov 23, 2009/3:45 pmOMG. . . I leave you guys alone for a few hours and I come back to find a ‘foo’ fight (thank you Hank for bringing back that ancient joke – now, I fully realize how old you are).
Would it hurt your feelings if I said each and everyone of you are right? Listen to the heart of these dissertations, each one eloquent, thought out and so reverent, to the point.
That’s why I love you guys so much! I SWEAR 2 GOD and as all who came before us: Each and Everyone of You Have a MOST VALID and reasonable point of view.
Here’s the Catch: My Point of View, Your Point of View, Their Point of View is NEGATED/NIL/NUL/VOID if we don’t respect the mind and heart of each other and offer equal measure to all voices, to one another.
NOT JUST HEAR. . . but, truly believe there is room for everyone. Earlier today I mad mention of a question Nathaniel (my brother from another planet) had asked: what surprises did you throughout this exercise.
RIGIDITY: mine and mine alone. A thought process that allowed me to dismiss that which did not meet my acceptance. MY ACCEPTANCE and my personal expectations.
Nathaniel: you were the first to welcome me here and the most challenging of personalities. What a Brave New World and such a good friend.
Felice, Ian and Nils: you welcomed my musical opinion and met that challenge so admirably as collaborators.
To ALL: Give it a FUCKING Break. Conspiracy Theories et al. Hey, us GD singer/songwriters with nothing but a story and a simple guitar get shit on by the luxurious productions of what not.
YEP! That’s nothin’ but BullShit as well. And, my point.
Okay, you were worth the RANT and I will take my medicine, now.
OH, NURSE. . . oh, nurse. . . ahhhhhhhhh!
Nov 23, 2009/3:40 pmIt does…
Anything that makes a top 20 and sticks is a miracle here.
I know my music is decent… at times… lol… I’m just not about to fool myself into thinking any of the points I was graced with today are gonna stay.
Id rather joke about flushing a hundred submissions into a toilet than let it get to me though.
Its easier for me to swallow the pill this way.
Nov 23, 2009/3:36 pmhey protilius… i mean no disrespect at all .. i really like listening to your tracks .. and obviously you are doing really well in this contest.. so that speaks for itself..dont it?

Dont blink… you might miss my fall to -20th place.
Nov 23, 2009/3:13 pmTroy,
thanks for your kind words.
My complicated instrumentals beat my subtle vocal entry to pulp.

lol
Nov 23, 2009/2:46 pmI have heard many emotionally moving instrumentals during review this year.I have heard instrumentals that speak to me in various different ways or have shifted my mood and energy or have simply inspired me.Some instrumentals have caused me to feel the freedom of my own imagination and have lent color to my reality.Perhaps some instrumentals have more the richness of a book and songs with lyrics and vocals have the richness of a photo or a movie.I have heard songs with vocals and words they have felt somehow incomplete and some instrumentals also. One of the most moving and beautiful instrumentals I have heard on Broadjam is by Vince Constantino and it is called “We’ll Get Through This” It moved me to tears so many times that I started playing it for others to see if it had the same effect on them (I was getting a little alarmed about myself!). Different people had different responses. This piece was complete and full to me.I would not have been able to handle anything fuller! Just some thoughts……
Nov 23, 2009/2:44 pmWhy yes, I have Nils. And you, my friend have some amazing “instrumental music pieces” in there. Honestly! No sarcasm on that one! Man, you can jam!
Nov 23, 2009/2:37 pmHowever you want to look at it…there are “songs” and there is “instrumental music” both ARE music but one is only truly a “song”. See description in Mags wiki post earlier…
That said, my kids make music with pots and pans. Some might not call it music but it is what it is!
Nov 23, 2009/2:32 pmOn a different subject:
Did anyone here notice that the songs (or instrumental music) that screams “I HAVE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIME SIGNATURE CHANGES” score a lot better than the quiet “i have a subtle time signature change here and there but you better listen or you might miss them”?
Just wondering.
Nils
Nov 23, 2009/2:31 pmIt would be like submitting Fur Elise and then having some one question its validity of “being an actual song” over not having lyrics…
That kinda mentality says something to me…
