Well, it’s time to get your songwriting chops lubed and prepare for the 5th Annual 6-Pack Songwriting Competition.
As I mentioned, this is the fifth year of the 6-Pack. Liz Miller won the first two and Margaret McClure won the past two. I’m sure many of the veterans will be returning as I have been receiving steady inquiries about the starting date, challenges, etc. The first four categories are the annual primer (any song you have), a love song, an instrumental and a spiritual song. The last two will be announced later and I’m sure you’re going to love them!

I can’t wait to see what the veteran 6-Packers come up with and personally invite the newcomers to bring their “A” game. There’s not a songwriting competition out their quite like the Broadjam 6-Pack and you will be stretched way beyond your current capacity.
You will see lots of new technical changes coming to the 6-Pack as well. Many of these were a result of direct feedback and we threw in a few of our own. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions regarding the 6-Pack or anything else we do for that matter. You can use this blog or send me a note directly. For some reason, I suspect you will have much to talk about.
As always, our sponsors have provided the contest with great prizes – take a look. They Include Sony, IK Multimedia, Line 6, Casio, Yamaha, ASCAP, and more!
So Get Lubed (Anything), Brew Some Luv (Love Songs), Shut Yer Yap (Instrumental) and get on that Rarified High (Spiritual) as we’re getting started.
The 2009 6-Pack is rockin’ and we’re off and running. Best of luck to everyone.
Sincerely,
Roy Elkins, Broadjam Founder and CEO

Reviewing in 3 can…
Feel like I’m in an elevator today previewing the latest variety of Muzak (how ever you spell it) or something.
Some great guitar work her and there, but a lot of country, more country and muzak than anything else.
Was one track that I simply adored though…

Nov 19, 2009/11:32 pmI always vent after reviewing and tonight as I review and write from the solitude of my Hotel room I must say I am impressed. I guess I must have hit a lucky spot tonight caus I’m hearing some truly original stuff… Some sweet arrangements that seem less formulaic… I had a hard time deciding on (my opinion) the best quite a few times.
Had to recharge my headphones but plan to get back on the review train as soon as they are charged…
The six pack Gods are smiling on my listening ears tonight…

BTW, they’re covers of “you are my sunshine”.
Nov 19, 2009/9:25 pmWow! Can 5. Some guy’s doing covers in the style of Bill Withers and The Bee Gees. And they’re excellent. Even if you don’t win with these, whoever you are, I’m sure you’re gonna get the ear of a publisher. An inspired idea. Well done!
Nov 19, 2009/9:24 pmOk, it’s time for another 6th can rant I’m afraid. Much as I love some of the entries in this can, I’m only giving ‘bests’ to those track which are clearly able to demonstrate a time signature change, such as 3/4 to 4/4, 5/4 to 4/4, 7/8 to 4/4. Some of the really excellent country-style entries have a tendency to double-time sections. This is a pace change, not necessarily a time signature change. Slowing down a section of a song is also not a time sig change. And neither do triplets a time signature make. Please guys, if you’re going to review, be aware of this and if you’re still going to submit to this can, do so in the spirit of the rules set out from the start. People I hear doing this can properly include (and are not limited to); Andy Machin, Nils Rurack, Toby Tune, Ian Kenny, Mags, Apocalypse Cow, Stein Thor. RTFR guys!
Nov 19, 2009/9:02 pmYes the teachers, they need to be aware and strong. Johnnys’ song will no doubt influence things and get things rolling more in the right direction.Good to know it’s out there!
Nov 19, 2009/8:55 pmMy father grew up in San Diego (I never have, apparently)and he loved it. Glad you had fun with Andy and Mags,(how could you not have fun with that dynamic duo?) I know they were sorry to see you go.
Nov 19, 2009/8:52 pmIndeed, Penny. A lot depends on the teachers. When my son was at school in France, bullying wasn’t a big problem generally. There, the teachers rule with an iron fist- and the parents generally back them up.
