The digital book, Everything You Need To Start Your Own Digital Label by Dennis R. Sinnot, gives the basic steps on how an individual can create and maintain their own label in the digital realm. It touches on the differences between traditional physical labels versus digital labels, the basic steps to create a website, and advice on computer equipment.
The book then goes into the various legal aspects of having your own digital label. It discusses the importance of copyrights, and having contracts in place when representing other artists. There are several contract templates available within the book which is helpful. There are also a few examples of how royalties are paid, which should be eye opening to anyone who was curious to see how the money is divided up for album sales, ticket sales, artist development, etc.
This book touches on the core elements of running a record label. Anyone who thinks they might want to start their own digital label should consider this book. More than likely, they will discover there is a lot more to a digital label than they expected and it is not going to be easy.

anyone read this? Any good? I have just finished Billboards songwriting book. Good book, but a bit preachy in the fact that it thinks it knows some hidden formula to a hit song. But there is some good things to think about in it… Would be cool to hear what people think about this one
