Ongoing and New Blogging Encouraged Here

As the 6-Pack contest is over, we’ve redirected all the communications going on at that blog to this – the main Broadjam Blog. The 6-Pack blog will eventually be reutilized for the next 6-Pack competition.

Don’t let this small change freak you out! We realize how popular the 6-Pack blog has been and want to continue to offer a forum for the discussions that were taking place there. Broadjam encourages you to bring your ongoing comments and posts here.

If there’s anything you think we’ve overlooked, feel free to let us know, and we’ll take it into consideration. Thanks!

    March 4th:

Going to the airport today, love flying. I’ll be out of my home state for nearly 5 days…:)

It’ll be such a nice change of pace. No evil bar to manage. No daily routines to succumb to. Just me, my labtop, and a bunch of familiar faces and names to spend some time with.

I’m actually considering leaving the labtop at home, but I know I’ll feel like that dream when I go to school and end up on a stage in the auditorium naked. Protilius with out his comp is just unnatural, almost as unnatural as Fat Free food, almost:)

Anyhow… Don’t know if anyone takes comfort in the silent typing of a random musician on BJ, but incase there are a few dedicated readers, “I’m, leaving… On a jet plane! Don’t know when I’ll be back again!”

    Two cents…

    Poetry in 2 dimensional form:

    I believe…

I believe in the unspoken promise of fate.

I believe in the unguided progress of genius.

I believe in the beauty of malfunction.

I believe in the predictability of what I know.

I believe in myself… because it is what I know.

    And most importantly… I believe.

I believe in everything unspoken, unrealized, unperceived, or disbelieved…

    Why?…

    Because it is our nature.

We are art, expression, genius in the rare form of variations in air pressure.

We are expression, emotion, and the nuances in between.

We are humanity. Compassion. And purpose… bundled into a binding reality we all know as our own.

    We are absolute.

And I believe… in all things absolute… in all things true and bred from the core of what we are… what we have always been.

I believe in the absolute of human genius.

    I believe… in possibilities.

    and so should you.

    March 3rd:

Great work shift tonight. I saw boobies….

    Like… lots of boobies.

    Bartending rocks.

    I can’t even feel guilty about it….

    Its my job! You know.

So if a female feels the need to make believe we’re going to throw beads at her any second… to heck with it.

Madison WI rocks. The girls are… eh hem… Susceptible. Good times… to bad I’m married and actually love my wife… I’d have it made.

Anyhow… Random thoughts from a bartender.

Things I shun like the plague: Number 43

I hear a track in submissions that is 100% other people’s samples from various stock libraries like “Soundtrack” from apple’s final cut studio 2 or samples ripped right out of “Reason’s” huge stock library.

Just samples… All of which I could reproduce right now. EXACTLY LIKE THIS GUY!

    Where’s the skill in that?

I’m sorry… but that guy gets the big Protilius SNUB.

    Learn how to sequence!!!!

    Poser.

And then ten minutes later, you stumble across some one else’s gem… and slouch in your captain’s chair muttering “maybe I’m not getting licensed this round.”

    #$%@

    Back to the studio.

(grumbling protilius fades out as he returns to his cave.)

    March 2nd:

Ever been doing the good, better, best… Listen to your competition… and then selfishly smile as you browse their tracks, secretly giggling to yourself “my new electronica track is getting licensed.” (humming melodically.)

Thats so horrible… but its also really rare when I can plow out a gem worth being proud of.

Stepped up and blasted nearly $300 in submissions… that crap piles up at $5 a pop!!!

After making some definitive improvements to Bullet, I decided to shop the hell out of it and a few other projects. Not that I want to steal anyones thunder, but I’m ready for another “Win” in the old resume if you know what I mean.

I’ve shaken up my submission strategy a bit.

I’ve been learning the virtues of modest submitting for each opportunity. Try and keep it to three tracks if at all possible… be specific in what you hand them… and for the love of god play favorites! If it boils down to three or four tracks that are similar, just throw in the best one.

Sometimes I feel like a lot of the available opportunities are the same guys looking for material in this big pond of ours. A lot of ears that have had the pleasure of my tracks many oh times by now.

My main concern… is investing money to shop a track to the same guy twice.

Way I figure, if he wanted it, he would have grabbed it the first time.

So instead I find myself focusing solely on new productions… leaving the other fifty to collect dust until I see something specific that can be used.

Thats the one thing about having a 60+ portfolio. Its so hard to pick and choose your favorites while effectively giving producers what they want from you at the same time.

What kills me, is when I’ll submit a bunch of tracks, and then you get the write back and they picked the least favorite of the bunch you submitted (still cool, but in the back of your mind you’re like WTF?). Or even better, when another artist nails a submission, and you’re like “whoa! Did NOT see that coming!”

    Anyhow…
    Two cents

    Been reviewing in a submission:

All styles: Songs needed for drama film
Looking for: All styles – ethereal, subdued music dealing with loneliness or depression, but with minimal lyrics

Expires today being the 27th of Feb.

There is an artist in there that is doing some awesome electronica/lounge.

My hat is totally off to you sir:)

Anyone who threw down on that should review to check him out. Then send Roy an angry email being you’ve discovered yet another artist you’ll likely never encounter in a search.

Completely instrumental stuff save the occasional vocal hit in one.

    Sigh:(

    Feb 27th:

Working on a new track that deals with the kind of angst and rage that burns you up from the inside. Thought it would be cool to get some giegercounter readings for and opening and close to the track… So we walked our intern into a test site in Nevada after a binge of strippers and gambling.

Yeah… I guess they already have samples of a giegercounter available in certain libraries. So that was kinda a drunken bad idea.

By the way… there’s an opening in the intern department again… Poor bastard. Thats five in two months.

    LOL

Hey PT I just listened to “Bullet Through The Dance floor” and loved it! Very much has a pulse and great beat yet spacious and airy. Really impressed with the overall feeling and also musical details and touches. Nice work!
