Ongoing and New Blogging Encouraged Here

As the 6-Pack contest is over, we’ve redirected all the communications going on at that blog to this – the main Broadjam Blog. The 6-Pack blog will eventually be reutilized for the next 6-Pack competition.

Don’t let this small change freak you out! We realize how popular the 6-Pack blog has been and want to continue to offer a forum for the discussions that were taking place there. Broadjam encourages you to bring your ongoing comments and posts here.

If there’s anything you think we’ve overlooked, feel free to let us know, and we’ll take it into consideration. Thanks!

Just posted a great Zinger to consider the next time you might be in the mood for something with a pulse.

    “Bullet through the dance floor.”

For something with a little Mozart influence in it, check out “Dissonance of a soul.”

For a good time… I’ll throw you my X’s number for the next time you’re in town.

Haha… Kidding. She’s a nightmare concerning anything longer than short encounters at a safe distance. But if you’re desperate:)

I’m supposed to be attending a seminar here in Madison, I was really excited about it, but am finding myself indisposed:(

Have to say I feel guilty that I can’t show, so I will say “Sorry, another time hopefully Roy, I know this event was important for you.” If anyone makes it to that seminar in Madison tonight, you should shoot me an email with some highlights, the speaker seemed very interesting and is likely a wealth of knowledge.

Well… back to the spaces in between the electrons I go!!!

Blog you all later! Or seemingly myself these days…

I’m reviewing for opportunities right now, doing this Alternative, Dark Rock & Goth Rock: Horror film seeking songs right now.

This is the most fun I’ve had all day.

Opening track starts out with this guy breathing heavily into the mike, ominously, and a little action jangle takes off from there. Awesome.

Next up is 7 minutes of OMFG we’re in the $#@! now pads! Just penetrating, dangerous, evil hiding in every corner, PADS!

The third reminds me horribly of a bad encounter I had in New York once. I’ll leave it at that.

    Yes!!!!

I love hearing artist’s on the fly interpretations on submissions. I have to wonder if they are written specifically for those submissions or if people just get board and start producing fun stuff for the heck of it.

    Good times on Broadjam:)

I lived in Bozeman MT for a little while. There’s this super awesome guitar shop there that gets Gibsons from one of their local guitar building facilities. I used to go in there every month and spend hours testing out all of the new models we got on hand there monthly.

There were a few musicians whom were diehard guitarist that lived in the area and we used to hang out to jam religiously at the shop every week on tuesdays. The shop owner was really cool about letting us set up and throw a shindig for a few hours early in the day. I never really knew those guys as well as I could have, but they were amazing musicians, and it was some of the best jamming of my life.

    Great times.

If you ever find yourself in Bozeman MT or “Boze’Angelas” as we lovingly referred to the closest sign of civilization from Yellowstone National Park, you should stop at that shop down on the main strip, a lot of cool limited edition stuff from Gibson to check out.

    Hi Ian,

My real account is the “Andy Machin” one. I tried upgrading my account yesterday to submit to a listing under the deadline (the Stevie Ray Vaughan one), with a coupon I got with Peak Pro but ended up starting another site. I called Jesse and he’s got me all hooked up now. I just gotta figure out how to get that other one down.

As for the guitars….unfortunately there’s only the two………dang!……….can never have too many guitars I always say.

Do I have to start screaming racial slurs and offending masses to prompt a response outa you guys?

I’d hate to do it… but I can get inventive when it comes to offending random people. (if you’re good at something, lol.)

    Ok…

I propose a challenge to all of you bloggers and six pack campaigners.

    Write me a track.

    I’ll keep it simple.

The track needs to involve a gripe you have about society. After providing a gripe, you need to present a philosophical solution.

The best song gets a free remix by myself, and not to mention me shopping the track at no cost to you after its remixed. Unless of course you let me re-master the original, then I’ll shop that too:)

Anyhow… good luck, hope people take the challenge seriously.

Not a lot of action in the blogs this weekend.

    Ok… Here’s a joke for you all.

I got it outa a recent playboy issue. (Funny stuff, we started receiving three a month complements of the Heff himself as a brilliant marketing campaign to hook taverns up with free porn and a little publicity.)

    Anyhow… (chuckles)

What is the difference between a pigeon and a stockbroker?

A Pigeon can still make a deposit on a Lexus.

    “Ba, da, dum!”

    Mwaha.

Ok… Enough tasteless jokes about our economy.

Hope everyone is getting some great work done. I know Marg and Phoebe have been busy lately and I’m looking forward to hearing a lot of the new material on the horizon. Can’t wait to get my but handed to me in 1can again.

Joe, you around these days? Miss your stories and insights on a regular basis.

Been thinking about the six pack a lot. I can understand the motivation to get so much done in this downtime so to say. Its the embodiment of all those ideas you had after the submission deadlines for last year’s six pack came and went.

I personally just like to hit my head against the wall until ideas fall out, but the headaches afterwards are always a chore, so I’ve been resorting to an old musical Keyboard to write melodies on and then click the music in with a mouse later. So barbaric… I know.

Just so I’m clear on this… I can’t submit anything I submitted to last years competition right? Or would that be a false presumption. Just don’t want to pull a disqualification out of my hat right out of the gate. (Moment of silence for last years 3can.)

Alright… I just couldn’t bare another day of inactivity on the blog.

    I’m off to work.

    :)

    good times indeed.

I was thinking about producing a nice little thumping track with a simple moog bass, a good beat, and some snazzy heavily vocoded vocals. The kind of vocals that are truly unnatural yet still melodic in some sense of the word.

Just a simple, bouncy, three minute mind trip with a pulse.

    Hey PT,

    How’s it goin’…?

Yeah….its tough reviewing music you dont normaly listen to….that said….theres hardly anything that I dont listen to
obviously I favour one genre to another….but I always trust my instincts…..and if something is played or sung well….I’ll notice and appreciate that….so that can lead me to mark something high…..even if it was’nt really what gets me excited.
    Fine craftsmanship is’nt always exciting….

Tell Ya what is exciting…..My new studio toys….lol
man….I cant get enough of that stuff…AmpliTube 2, Ampeg SVX
and SampleMoog (16 Moogs in a box)…I’d never seen them before..
    its just Awesome…..

in fact….I’m gonna play with them again….now…lol

    See Ya….Ian.

    Menice:

Checked out your track despite my non-rap taste, and it didn’t kill me to do so. So thats a great sign right off the bat.

Although, if I would change anything, I’d make that break around 1:20ish climax with a new beat and some hard core slap bass driving everything along. Maybe some extra vocalist jumping in to layer another vocal bed underneath what you already have.

I like those interesting woodwind samples, haunting, very cool… Something I’d use in a piece for sure.

Anyhow… hope its useful. There’s my half ass constructive rap review for the day:)

  • Protilius's comment is:

    Ian:

I think typical main stream rap and hip hop can be some of the hardest Genres to respect professionally, especially by song writers who don’t work in that format.

Country being a close second. LOL

Although… Rapping isn’t easy. Neither is writing a good country song. The last 6 pack kind of opened my eyes to that and I’ve since gained an appreciation for those genres in ways I never imagined possible.

Although… I won’t bullshit anyone. If I don’t like a genre… Chances are it’ll never get anything better than 4 outa 5 just for the fact that… well… It wasn’t for me. Thats why I won’t review out of Genres I like or work in… I always feel like I’ll never appreciate the music as well as the original writer may, and in knowing that, could never love it like they likely do.

Its funny, because I’ve been running a news letter for over a year now, and I often work in numerous formats when it comes to my music. MAny of the people on my news letter like my music for “very” different reasons. Many enjoy rhythms and bright melodies, others like the darker industrial stuff that I do, but it never fails to amaze me how torn the people on my news letter can be concerning one work to the next. Its entertaining to watch the emails roll in hosting a wide range of opinions on the same pieces of work, and often provides me a great deal of insight as to how to better produce tracks in the future.

So I guess what I’m trying to say, is sometimes getting a “constructive” opinion from some one who doesn’t regularly listen to a specific genre, might actually open your opinion to new ways to do better work that is ultimately accepted by more people.

Hmmm… Maybe I will review a track or two in a new Genre today. Although I guess I’m just concerned that if I do that, I may find myself needlessly blasting a musician for all the wrong reasons, so on second thought… I’ll leave the rap reviews to you Ian:) Don’t kick yourself down though, I’m sure you were constructive and deliberate in your opinion as you presented it. Besides, rappers need reality checks too! Likely not as often as I do… but still.

Ok… I’m obviously rambling by now.

    So there’s my two cents.

    Mornin’ Tim,

I’m probably not the best person you could have reviewing your song..”I Get It”…being a Honky from Scotland…lol..I have’nt managed to master The Art of the HipHop / Rap Lingo…and although I have trouble understanding all of the lyric…I do appreciate the Skills involved in this Genre.
    I hear “I Get It”…as a Rap….and in That genre…It stands up pretty well!
HipHop …suggests to me…a more music influenced Bed…with perhaps a Sung Chorus…or Harmonised Backing Vocals behind the Rap…..but then again….what do I know…lol

Your Timing is excellent Tim….the way you slip through those words…and the amount of words you guy’s have to come-up with
    …Fine Skills!…..OH!….and if I was a Girl…..I’d probably think…..This Menice is one sexy Dude…..lol

    All The Best Matey
