As the 6-Pack contest is over, we’ve redirected all the communications going on at that blog to this – the main Broadjam Blog. The 6-Pack blog will eventually be reutilized for the next 6-Pack competition.
Don’t let this small change freak you out! We realize how popular the 6-Pack blog has been and want to continue to offer a forum for the discussions that were taking place there. Broadjam encourages you to bring your ongoing comments and posts here.
If there’s anything you think we’ve overlooked, feel free to let us know, and we’ll take it into consideration. Thanks!

Everyone,
The reviews are now open for the first challenge, 1 & All. Lots of good songs have been submitted so far by a few of the veteran 6-Packers, and there are lots of new comers as well. As of this writing, many have started reviewing and we can see the Leaderboard starting to take shape, we will be posting it in the near future so keep checking back.
I’ve had a couple of people tell me that they are holding off until later to get in to the contest as they feel that it might be to their advantage. I’ll tell you that the advantage definitely goes to the early entries. First, because the song entry date is one of the tie breakers, so earlier entries will get precedence. But even more important is the way the scoring system is set up. Remember, every song get will get approximately the same number of reviews. Your songs move up and down the ranking based on the score they receive. So if you’re in early and have a few reviews under your belt, then your score is not going to change much as your position gets more solidified with each additional review. If you’re higher up the chart this tells you to wait and see before entering more songs. If you’re not on the chart, then you probably need to enter more songs to be competitive.
Regardless of your timing, best of luck and may the best writer win.

We feel it is a unique challenge and hope that everyone who enters gets the same satisfaction we do. Best of luck to you guys and everyone else.

After my first posting, I realized another improvement… the post goes to the top of the blog instead of the bottom
Jun 11, 2008/1:53 pmRoy and Broadjam staff,
Thanks for listening to our suggestions. It appears from the new rules that the competition scoring should be more fair in the sense that submission points will hardly be a factor since we’ll be using a 50-1000 point system instead of 5-100 in the top 20. Also, thanks for adding the inappropriate button. Hopefully, this also will make for a better competition without skewed results.
I agree 100% with what Mags said above. I too have collaborated with other people from the competition and also like Margaret, one of the collaborations resulted in a single-song contract with a publisher. I’m looking forward to this year’s competition… Let the games begin.

Jun 11, 2008/1:50 pmHi everyone,
Are we ready to ROCK??
I wanted to thank Roy, Jesse, the broadjam staff and all the sponsors for all the hard work that goes into this contest. I had the pleasure of meeting with Roy , Jesse and Steve at the ASCAP expo this year and I am amazed at how much effort they put into this contest, how complicated it is and how much they care about songwriters. It is very mathematical and precise and extremely fair. I respect Roy and his team immensely . The 6pack is such a great experience because it is an interactive contest meant to bring out the best in songwriters.
We wrote 25 new songs last year for the 6pack, pushed ourselves to the limit and won the grand prize along with a whole bunch of gear that we are very happy about . But the biggest prize of all is all of the friends and connections we have made . The prizes are great but the friendships are priceless. There is no other contest where you can actually get to know other songwriters like this.Since the 6-pack I have co written with several other writers that I met during the 6pack and even had one co-written song published. And I have a huge list of songwriters I can go to for honest advise about new songs Im writing.
I would encourage every one of all ages , skill levels and styles who can find the time , to participate in this years 6pack. This is a one of a kind , modern, unique, songWRITING contest. If you want to do well the key is to write new fresh songs, targeted specifically for the individual can’s, encourage each other, push your self and have fun. There are no losers in this contest. I can’t wait to hear all the music that is inspired by the 2008 6pack !!
SO bring it on songwriters !!!
kisses,

Johnny,
Here they are. These are pulled from the home page of the 6 Pack. If you want more detail, click on the terms and conditions. Good luck to everyone.
Roy
Participants earn one point for each song entered, but the winners will pull their high score from the opinions of their peers. All contestants rate each other’s work, and the peer-popular songs earn points for each high review. Custom prize packages are awarded to three winners in each challenge, and in the end, 20 overall competition winners will walk away with new gear. Best of all, the participant who stacks up the most points throughout all six challenges wins the grand prize package worth $25,000.
All entrants receive a point for each song submitted to any 6-Pack challenge. Artists earn additional points for every song that places in the Top 20 of each challenge. A song’s rank is determined by the average rating it receives from peer reviews. It is possible for an artist to have more than one song in the Top 20.
During the review process for each challenge, songs may change places frequently, thus altering the number of points awarded as new reviews are submitted. Therefore, points shown for a challenge that is still in the review stage are not final. Only when the review period ends will the artist receive the points for that challenge.
The Top 20 songs for each challenge will receive between 50 and 1,000 points – first place receives 1,000 and subsequent point values, decreasing in increments of 50, are awarded to the 19 runners up.
Broadjam will name the winners for each challenge, according to point totals. At the end of the final challenge, the 20 participants who have accumulated the most points throughout the competition will receive prize packages.
New to the review mechanism this year is an “inappropriate” field for each song. Although reviewers will be required to rate all songs as good, better or best, they will also have the option to mark a song inappropriate for that challenge. This means that the reviewer believes the song is not appropriate for the challenge requirements (i.e. a love ballad in a heavy metal challenge). Songs marked inappropriate will be reviewed by the Broadjam staff and removed when inappropriateness is confirmed.
Jun 11, 2008/9:17 amHi Roy,
Jun 11, 2008/4:02 amCould you please post the competition rules up in the blog as that is something i’m sure everyone would appreciate.
Thanks
Johnny.
