Dear Broadjam Member,
Broadjam.com now has nearly 100,000 members from 190 countries around the world. We started in 1999 and launched our first website in 2000. To our knowledge there is only one other website still in existence that was in the internet indie music space when we started. We are very proud to have sustained ourselves in a tumultuous industry that was and is still in its infancy. We are sincerely grateful that so many musicians from around the world have made us their online home.
Over the years, many features like transmit, public and private playlists and selling downloads were generated by suggestions from our community. We are extremely pleased to get so much good feedback and that so many of our members are getting so much from Broadjam.com. While we’re appreciative of the past and will continue to offer all of the current services on Broadjam.com, we are moving forward.
For the past two years we have been planning the complete overhaul of Broadjam.com. Last October, we started implementing that plan and over the next few days, weeks and months, you will see the results of it.
The first phase of Broadjam.com 2.0 will launch a new look to our website. You will see a simpler, cleaner and a more “Web 2.0″ look to the design. It will be easier to navigate and most of the features on the site will be at your fingertips. You will see faster page load times, searching will be more in-depth and many new features are coming right behind the launch. Broadjam Connections, will allow you to directly link and communicate with other members of Broadjam through our in-house communication systems. These and other features will enable songwriting partnerships to prosper, fan bases to develop and online networking to exist all within the margins of your profile page at Broadjam.com. We are certainly looking forward to the possibilities for our members.
As you navigate through the new website and experiment with the new features, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for all of your support and we look forward to hearing from you.
Best of luck,
Roy Elkins

Limited staff.
Other reasonable excuse are:
Busy talking to a lot of producers on a daily basis so they can provide us with the amazing opportunities that they do.
Busy upgrading this amazing system they have… Even if flawed… To play host to over 100,000 bands/members and provide a service that ultimately opens doors for independents like no other internet site has (save perhaps TAXI, which I have a membership to but never use) or currently can, is likely a tough juggling act. And I commend them for their hard work.
Busy feeling bad that despite all of their best intentions and attempts to provide a reasonable service… There is always a person that feels they are a important enough that normal business hours shouldn’t apply to them.
Hmmm… I let that thought go for a second. Just stew on that idea.
I’m sure your gripes are legit. I honestly don’t know… But it is obvious you are frustrated and your concerns should likely be addressed too.
I’ll say this though.
I have met the staff at BJ and can confidently assure you, it is not as if they are avoiding your needs, the simple truth is those boys and girls need a few days off a week too… and when the office is open, you can bet good money they’ll go the extra mile to see to it that you’re taken care of.
Perhaps in the future Roy and the good folks at BJ will take on some more staff members that specialize in Customer care and work 24 hours a day to help us “shop music.”
Unfortunately, for now… The staff is a modest one in contrast to perhaps a cable provider and can only do so much in a week. Heck… I spend more money on Cable these days and get half the service when something breaks. I’ve had to wait nearly a week once to get an internet issue resolved… And no… I don’t believe the pro-rated my bill either.
Not trying to butt heads, just trying to offer the occasional healthy dose of reality for you is all, it is easy to become frustrated when you invest a lot of money into something and it doesn’t work as advertised.
I’m sure BJ will work out any problems you may have with the site and that, “yes”, your business “is” important to them.
They just happen to have lives on the weekends.
Best regards:

If you have 100,000 members, then how come you can’t afford to have someone answer the phone on the weekends if we have a question? Instead of having a email, that you have to wait for a answer until Monday, when someone shows up. I really do expect a little better service in this regard. Eddie Leighton
Feb 23, 2009/10:20 pmKoox… bit rate should be in the 190′s and songs only cost $0.99
Nov 29, 2008/8:08 amGood day! Tell me, please – why bitrate of downloaded songs so low? 128 kbps for $1.5??? This is nonsense!!!
Oct 27, 2008/8:32 amEarl,
For seven years on Broadjam, every artist has been able to provide free downloads to people they know. Utilizing the transmit mechanism, one has always been able to provide songs to fans, friends, publishers, labels, other Broadjam members, etc. So this is really nothing new on Broadjam, we have just made the option more public. Over the years, many of our members have suggested that we open the transmit tool up to any visitor of Broadjam so they could expose their music to a broader audience. We thought it was a good idea as long as it’s optional. You don’t have to participate if you don’t feel it’s right for you. You are the only one who can and has the right to make distribution decisions about your music.
Thanks for your feedback as it’s always appreciated.
Roy
Sep 14, 2008/10:03 pmI have just recieved an auto-mail from b/jam telling me what a great idea it would be to join everyone in giving away my songs for free – what a brilliant idea! why didn’t I think of that! And while I’m at it any one want any jobs done round the house, I’m pretty handy with the paintbrush, cutting grass, unblocking drains… all free of course!
Sep 13, 2008/7:46 pmIf established acts with a bucket load of money in their accounts want to do that, fine, why not, but why Broadjammers?
The only reason I would pay to download a Broadjammers song anyway is to support them, I don’t need to, I can listen to anyones song for free on the site as they can mine.
Just a thought, my renewal is up in November, any chance of having it for free?….
>Just a reminder. If you have any questions about Broadjam.com and want a reply from Broadjam, the blog is not the best place to ask it. Please write to customerservice@broadjam.com<
Thanks. I did write to customer service two days ago to tell them that I noticed the mood settings for my songs have changed and asking that my original settings be restored. No reply, so I wrote again today in case my email was missed. Or maybe they’ve restored my settings and didn’t write me, I’ll have to check.
Has anyone here seen that the mood setting for their songs have been changed?
Sep 4, 2008/12:59 pmJim – We’ve sent you an email with your answers. Thank you.

Sep 4, 2008/11:36 amI really hate to complain about changes to the site, because I really appreciate that it is here and available to connect and communicate with the virtual musical community…
But PLEASE bring back the” Top Artist” and “Fan List”. The new single “contacts’ is really impersonal and a huge let down IMO.
I am/was always THRILLED to get a new fan (as I know others were/are as well). It was also a way to express and show on my page, my taste in other musical styles by picking what I thought were Top Artist. It was a good way to break the ice and communicate with other artist and show your appreciation of someone else’s talent and ability. This was one of the features that really gave me a feeling of personal involvement and connection with other artist on the site.
Sure, there were some people who abused and used this as just a way to get their avatar mass exposure by making everyone that has a song on a top ten list a “Top Artist” – but surely, there must be a better solution than just abolishing the Fan and Top Artist category?
I had suggested in the blog that there be a random spin button to try to give equal time to both fans and top artist (all were special and “uniquely first” in their own way) – but this new change of having all lumped into “contacts” – and then also not having any way to control the position is REALLY a let down in my opinion.
I have to admit that it is awkward when someone becomes a fan, and there is an unspoken sort of obligation to make them a Top Artist – and vise versa, even if the person doesn’t care for that type of music. This is a troubling and difficult issue to reconcile – and probably has the potential to create hurt feelings one way or the other. But honestly, if I like someone’s music and choose to make them a “Top Artist”, i don’t expect them to become my fan, and make me a Top Artist if they don’t want to, or more importantly my music simply does not appeal to them. Different people have different, varied and diverse taste – and that’s a good thing.
Some don’t like to play the popularity contest game at all – and that’s understandable – there were ways of hiding those categories altogether if one so chooses. But I personally don’t look at it that way. As long as Broad-jammers can be honest without expectations, I believe the Fans and Top Artist picks is a positive and productive feature and should remain.
Sep 3, 2008/11:38 amI’m noticing that the moods I selected when uploading songs have been changed. I’m seeing moods like “Angry-Enraged”, “Angry-Irate”, “Hateful-Horrible” and etc. which I did not choose. Could you please see that my original choices get restored?

Sep 2, 2008/2:21 pmRoy,
Thank you for trying to continue to update and improve the site…. but below are a few suggestions:
Please…. please update the FAQ section……and consider letting members click on a link or something that adds their question to the FAQ section which you would then add an answer to. I am sure if one person has a question…. it could be one that many more wish they had taken the time to make contact to ask.
I have had many questions and have not found them in the FAQ section. I then clicked on the ‘Contact Us’ link, submitted my question, but no one gets back to me. On other sites, with whom I am a member, they are able to get back to a question contact within 24 hrs.
Also….. Regarding reviews….. how about allowing a “Replay” button. Many times I would have liked to have replayed the song to focus on certain sections of a song before completing my review.
Additionally….. perhaps some explanation of what the site’s administrative view is regarding the value of #1 versus #5, etc.. If it equated with grades as they are used in school….[ #1=F, #2=D, #3=C, #4=B, #5=A ], then that makes sense. As it stands now…… very few understand that a ‘C’ is considered ‘average’ within society and the National Board of Educators. [I am a Life Credentialed Certified Teacher]. However, when I have graded reviews with ‘#3′s’….. I have been criticized as being too harsh. Please understand, there are a lot of wonderful musical creations out there, but not every one can be a #5 or an ‘A’….. just as in the school system of the world.
Please….. as administrators of the site….. clarify the rating system.
Finally – How about adding a ‘unique’ feature to the Broadjam site.
Be the first to add ‘SHEET MUSIC DOWNLOAD’ of members music…..as an additional possible purchase. Of course I understand that the member would have to upload the music already… perhaps using Sebelius or Finale, or????, but it would certainly put Broadjam a leap ahead of the competition.
I hope you will seriously consider these and all the submission of ideas from other members and implement them as soon as possible.
P.S. – will any administrator contact me directly…. There are additional ideas and suggestions……hmmmmm I wonder.
Sincerely,
Jim Covington
Sep 2, 2008/10:50 amPages seem to be loading faster – this is much gooder! The layout is fresh and more organized – though some info (like membership level) seem to be missing? I’m not really loving the somewhat sterile sanitized black on white background. Much like music… I’d like more color, warmth, depth and creativity put into it.
Sep 1, 2008/8:58 amLooks a little to bright with no depth to me.I am also hearing a lot of cover tunes being uploaded.Ithought Brodjam was for independant songwriter/musicians.I don’t think covers should be on Broadjam.
