I must say I can relate to many of the problems encountered by other members – on the whole I think Broadjam is a great tool and can be a lot of fun but I must say, just lately, I cant be bothered to log in, the sheer frustration of getting good reviews ( all 5′s ) but at the same time watching the songs slip away down the charts. Despite what I am assured, there is DEFINITELY something wrong with the review system no question. Also I always make a point of thanking those kind artists who bother to give helpful reviews but this has proved very hard as now I recieve e-mail notifications that my mails don’t get through ( only on Broadjam ) Also, this may be coincidence, but I uploaded a song a while back and It just does not get reviewed, even though it is in excactly the same genre as other old ones on there, they keep getting reviewed not the new one. Broadjam states that usualy newer songs take priority but for some reason this is not the case.
Something does need sorting and I hope things improve because when in full operation mode Broadjam is a good vehicle and as I said a lot of fun – all the best to you. Earl

I guess there is a character limit on the blogs because the last part of my message was chopped off. Or maybe this is the same thing going on with the song descriptions.

Anyway, I’m resending the last part of the message:

And my Broadjam hosted website was completely down for more than three days in January. I must say Dennis handled it well and did the best he could, and I think Customer Service is doing a great job. And while I expect sporadic outages from time to time, 3 days will make anyone that wants to visit think you are out of business.

And there are other problems too, but these are the most important to me. And I think Broadjam did a competent job correcting most of the issues since the transition. But my issues started long before that and there are still problems obviously.

So I’ll end by saying that I’ve really enjoyed my almost three years at Broadjam, it’s been a great ride and a lot of fun for the most part. I think Broadjam is doing a fantastic job at giving us independents a global musical store and presence for a price almost any musician can afford. Kudos to Roy and the entire team.

I firmly believe that a large number of the next generation of famous stars will come from here, and I think a lot a of future hit songs are already on-site.

But it seems to me that Broadjam has now moved on to new things and some of us just might have to live with less than we had before, I certainly hope that is not the case. And the last 4 months have not been a lot of fun here for me, loaded with aggravation, lots of extra work and wasted time devoted to fixing things you expect to work, time I really don’t have to give.

For me at least, Broadjam was a better and happier place just a few months ago than it is this year. I can only hope that things will improve soon, I only want what I had before.

    Regards

    Cameron Smith

I first commented on the missing song descriptions on a 2-29-08 blog, which was more than two weeks after they disappeared because the network was experiencing much more serious problems than that at the time, as I was. I’m using Vista and IE7.

But I started experiencing that and other, much bigger problems long before the switch was flipped in the third week of February for the platform transition, some going back to December, which is all well documented with Customer Service.

Any song description longer than a few lines long, which includes just about all my vocalized songs, are gone after that, chopped off in mid-sentence, usually in mid-word, both on my Broadjam Profile and my Broadjam hosted website. I’ve noticed it on other sites too, so it’s not anything I’ve done. It’s like the amount of characters available to us was suddenly reduced. I finally felt compelled to put a message of explanation in my Headline Page on my website as I’ve been getting a lot of traffic for a while and it looks unprofessional.

Something I haven’t commented on is the Reload Song function, which has been down over a month, because enough others have, but the problem persists up to this moment.

I submitted to a Destination for one of my songs with the intention of making some instrumental changes to the song to better fit the listing, but I wanted to get it out there right away to get it into Review. I attempted to upload the newer version for over three weeks with no success.

The listing just expired. And as frustrating as the entire experience was, it got even more so yesterday when I checked on my deliveries and it’s not even there anymore, gone, even though I still have email conformation that I indeed did submit to it.

And on that subject, my mail box has been messed up since December. Customer Service has looked into it numerous times, it’s not like they haven’t tried, but it’s only gotten worse, I get almost no mail now outside of Broadjam Automated Mail anymore, and that hasn’t been without problems either. I missed six straight chart notification’s and three straight review notifications in a row in January. I really like chart notifications because you can send them to friends and fans who might revisit, and to people in the industry that might be interested in your song, or engaging you as an artist.

I’ve talked to several artists who have not received my mail, or I theirs. You go to their Artist Profile Contact Page and it says “Your message has been successfully sent to the artist”, but they don’t always get it, and it’s just gone, apparently for good, and the sender doesn’t get a copy of those messages that we can resend.

And if you send it from your Inbox, you will sometimes receive a Failure Notice if they don’t get it, but sometimes you won’t. At least there you get to keep a copy that you can attempt to resend later.

Whether it’s a fellow artist writing from my Artist Profile Page, or me from theirs, a fan trying to contact me from my website or signing the guestbook, or an agent or promoter with a business opportunity trying to contact me, and instead looks for someone else because they think I’m rude for not having the courtesy to even reply, never suspecting that I never got it (good luck taking that relationship any further), I don’t think any of this is very good for business, at least I know it isn’t for mine.

Other than having a player that reliably plays your songs, I can think of nothing more important to an artist on Broadjam than having confidence in a reliable mail system, that the mail you send or is sent to you won’t vanish into oblivion. I’ve been using my free Yahoo em account for anything important whenever possible of late, I know that’s works.

And my Broadjam hosted website was completely down for more than three days in January. I must say Dennis handled it well and did the best he could, and I think Customer Service is doing a great job. And while I ex

I “echo” Jim Ferrie’s well said points. I have advanced along this musical journey alot quicker because of Broadjam. The Web Hosting feature is something for Broadjam to be very proud of as it is very professional. The interactive features like a wide choice of web Templates allows you to always change the look of the site. Other music sites do not even come close when offering that kind of web Hosting.
When I joined Broadjam it was because of TAXI…….so there was some temporary “angst” when TAXI moved to its own Music Submission platform. And while I did set up with TAXI , I also felt very comfortable to stay with Broadjam because I had invested much to be here. Broadjam only “sweetened” my decision by not hesitating to offer TV/Film opportunities to its members as well. To me Broadjam’s Web Hosting is the hub of all I do musically. And I look forward to keeping it up :)

  • Jim Ferrie's comment is:

Once upon a time I made some home recordings. I asked a neigbour (who was a grammy winning producer) how I could get them heard and critiqued. He suggested Taxi. They in turn suggested Broadjam as the upload service (at that time). I soon realised that Broadjam was, for me, the only way I was going to get heard as I hadn’t gigged in years. Getting critiques from fellow musos I thought was a good way of soundboarding prior to Taxi submissions. Especially as the standard of many Broadjam artitsts is high and therefore it seemed logical that I could get better and constructive criticism via this community. Then there was the competitions. I’ve now won in three different Broadjam contests (and some others externally). I would never have achieved anything like this if it hadn’t been for Broadjam. Broadjam has been my musical ‘shop window’ for three years now and in my eternal state of moving around with the job, virtually my only chance of being heard by members and industry pros alike. Now there’s TV and movie submissions to get your song placed, which is much of what Taxi does. I’m now using Broadjam and Taxi in tandem for track placement submissions.

It’s getting increasingly more difficult to get a chart placing and so my Broadjam participation helps to ‘up my game’ prior to submitting new tracks.

But the one thing I haven’t mentioned so far is the FUN in doing it. And I suppose, afterall, this is why I use Broadjam.

I have used Broadjam for about eight years now for a few things. The most useful tool broadjam offers is the peer reviews. I use them as a sounding board for Taxi and Broadjam submissions. example, if i find that a song is getting mostly 5/5 reviews consistantly, I spent the money to submit it to the A&R peeps.
From that point, the pro’s in the biz review my stuff even if they don’t send it on to the labels. This is very instrumental criticism from two very different reviewers. I find at Broadjam, the reviews are mostly from other musicians and tend to be from the heart, whereas reviews from the A&R people are more or less based on structure and craft.
Over all, Broadjam has truely helped me grow into the enormous shoes of the music industry.
