EV PL Series Microphone Giveaway

Broadjam is launching another Giveaway Blog to share more great gear with our members. Full Compass and Electro-Voice are giving away a set of the newly reissued EV PL Series Microphones for free! EV has been a pioneer in microphones for the past 80 years. The original PL series was first released back in late 1970s, and the re-issue of the PL series marks EV’s first complete line of instrument and vocal microphones since 1985. These microphones are built for live sound. The PL series has several dynamic microphones and a few condenser microphones to choose from. From overheads, to drums, guitar cabinets to vocals there is a microphone in this series for your band. All PL Series models feature a unique non-reflective textured satin finish, high-quality fine mesh Memraflex grilles, shock-mounted capsules for extraordinarily-low handling noise, and polar patterns strategically chosen to deliver superb sonic performance with minimal off-axis complications. Some big artists using these microphones include Finger Eleven, Brad Paisley, Staind, Kenny Chesney, and the Dropkick Murphys. And keep in mind that EV does not pay their endorsees. These artists are using EV microphones because they capture the sound necessary for their live performances.

The winner of this blog competition and their entire band will be fully outfitted with PL Series Microphones from EV – that’s over $1,000 worth of microphones. Here is what you need to do to win this product. Post a comment telling everyone why you and your band should be outfitted with the PL Series Microphones. Tell us what features stand out and how you would use it. For the next few weeks we will review the comments, and decide who will walk away with the EV PL Series Microphones, courtesy of Full Compass.

A note from the Broadjam Founder and CEO Roy Elkins:
“I used the EV PL Series Microphones while working on a record and was blown away by the quality and presentation of the microphones. First, the microphones came in a great nylon hard sided case, which was great for carrying the mics to my session. I used the PL84 on vocals and it produced an amazing quality of sound. As an experiment I tried the PL80 on some percussion work. Even though these microphones are made for live sound, I got a great recording of a shaker in small studio room. Over all the quality of these microphones are fantastic. I could go into more detail about my experience, but I would quickly run out of space. I have used a lot of EV products during my career, and I have always been satisfied with their performance.”

Here is a brief description of a few features of the EV PL Series Microphones. To learn more about the microphones, check out their product descriptions at Full Compass.

PL24 – flat response, good for vocals or speaking
PL44 – has an upper mid range bump to brighten the mix, good for vocals
PL80 – EQ friendly microphone with good low end proximity effect, good for vocals especially on big stages with large PA systems.
PL84 – condenser microphone that is great in capturing detail, good for vocals
PL33 – kick drum microphone with a tight punchy sound, also works good on guitar cabinets
PL35 – snare and toms microphone, includes a unique clamp with a built in 37 degree angle that ensures a low profile when attached to the drum
PL37 – condenser microphone that has a good off axis rejection, works for overheads, hi-hat and acoustic instruments

Let us know what you think by posting your thoughts.

Best of luck,

Roy

I could give you a story or a novel that entails parody, calamity, struggle, strife, setback, climax, great feats, heroism and victory, but I won’t bore you with my story. You and I both know that doesn’t sell in the music business….not until you make it at least. Why do I stand out among others writing in for this great gift. I don’t…… I’m just like everybody else posting a comment, but I will say this EV’s PL microphone series could CHANGE all that. That is the beautiful thing about a superb product like the PL series. It gives definition to vocals, it allows a natural response to be reproduced with live instruments setting them a part from the mundane, familiar sound of a so called “industry standard” microphone package. Ultimately, I don’t strive to be the “industry standard”, I strive to “Raise the Standard”. Full Compass, Electro-Voice, you can equip me to be above standard, allow me the honor, the privilege of using your equipment in my day to day studio and live sound application. I won’t let you down!

    Hey,

My name is Brian, a singer/songwriter from Florida. I currently own an N/D 767a which is one of the best live mics I’ve ever heard. It definitely has a better tone than the SM58, way better response and it matches my voice perfectly. I use this mic when I perform with my band ‘Our Future Leaders’. Every time we perform, I walk up to the sound engineer and tell him I have a personal mic I would like to use. With a cocky grin, the usual response is, “What is it, a 58?”. I chuckle a little and then show them my EV, which is in nearly perfect condition, they inspect it pretty meticulously and almost always I hear “This is much better”. I have only 2 microphones to record with, a cheap condenser, and an SM57, but I get by, yet I get a very live sound to my recordings. In order to make my music sound like it was recorded in a studio, I simply need quality microphones to do the job and unfortunately I need more than I can afford. With this set of microphones, I could record a full drum kit with a tight punchy sound like a real professional. I have a very talented group and I would like to be able to capture that with a brand I know stands for quality performance. Please grant me this opportunity to use this set of quality mics the way they were meant to. I am on my way to becoming an audio engineer, and with a full set of microphones I could take my career to the next level. Thank you for your time, and please feel free to listen to some of the work I have done with my band.

    Best Regards,

    Brian

I’ve been on the road for the past 20 years as Director of Production for Clear Channel/LiveNation, then became crippled with rare Spinal Disease. Even with traveling I would still write and record songs the best I could with whatever was available at the time. So now that I am wheelchair bound and at home alot I am devoting my time to writing and recording. Got a new Pro Tools rig with my Lap Top and what a blessing to have a classic EV set of mic’s to go with this. I used to be able to buy all the things I needed, but disability seriously reduces disposable income. I am by no means a needy person, but those microphones would be an incredibly awesome blessing. Thanks !

I ‘ll be up front and honiest my microphone set up is so old. I still use batteries in it….Yeah I know” LOL right!! Being broke is hell for a one man band. I wish I could afford a high powered EV PL Series Microphones. I’d turn into an instant rock star.. Winning these mics would transform my sound from darkvador/chipmonks to slimthug/nelly. See I got the great songs I just don’t have the great sound. One of the reason I have not put up any music on broadjam..my sound is suffering and I’m to imbarrest to let some one hear it. These EV PL Series Would shore change these laughing critics of my sound to Loving it. I’d become a full braodjam member and a major spokes model when my Record Company GWG Entertainment(Based In Philadelphia)puts out it’s frist hit single…I’d thank you on my LP and do free sponsoship advertizments until the single is done.I’ll promote broadband and the EV PL Series Microphones at shows during the life of my hit single all because you two came together and created these great oppertunities…Watch if I win….I’m going to show em.

    Wow!

This sounds like just the ticket! Our band currently consists of acoustic bass, cello, ukulele, harmonica and hand drums (I Know! Different!) Jamming and practicing in a small room is fine, but when it comes to performing we are constantly trying to get around issues of feedback and horrid noises when trying to use clip on even soundhole microphones. It just doesn’t sound the same. Also in the studio we rent the gear is not fantastic so a good overall microphone system that could pick up all the complexities and sweet sounds of our purely acoustic sound would be the bee’s knees! I have never had the pleasure of trying these particular microphones, but after reading about them (thanks for the link!) I think they may be just what the doctor ordered!

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

I’ve been working with music for 15 years now, i’m 28 years old. I am your typical struggling artist, living with my struggling painter girlfriend and another friend in order to pay rent. I have finally gotten to make my living with my music, but when I say “living” know that I use this term loosely. I have been out only a single night in the last month and was still only able to buy a couple of drinks. I have a truck I need to fix, bills that are overdue, and every other problem that plagues most persons trying to pursue a dream.

I have no doubt that I will succeed in my career, I mean that. The fact that I am able to generate any money at all from music and not have any other job is tremendous. Even more impressive to me is that I have done this with a 5 year old Apple laptop with 1.25GB RAM, Pro Tools LE, an MBox 1, and only a single plugin that i’ve purchased aside from what came with my LE setup.

I have been recording everything, and I mean everything, through an old AKG mic and would be able to sonically enhance my works so unbelievably much with a set of microphones actually designed for what they are made to be used for. To not have to drastically process sound after the fact to hide the flaws of an inappropriately used mic is crucial to quality recordings. Knowing that I can’t afford this set on my own right now, or in the foreseeable future, makes me an ideal candidate for this package.

I am not going to say I deserve this more than any other person, I know there will always be somebody worse off than I. I know that I will be able to pay my rent this upcoming month and I know I will have food in my fridge

I have been in music all my life. Love to write and perform in public. Nothing greater than bringing a crowd to their feet with a song you have written. You can’t get to that point without a good demo and you can’t get a good home demo without a good mike. I need it to advance my career…don’t have much time left

    Hello,

I have been making music for over 30 years. About 9 years ago, I lost 2 floors of my house, due to sewage water. Along with that loss, was some of my musical equiptment. I am trying to replace stuff, as I can, to continue making music & sharing it with my children, who have been playing music now. It would be great if I win this contest. Thank you very much.

  • Graham Howard's comment is:

I sure could use those mikes and the great sound they would produce for my singing. I tried other mikes while recording my new song “Time Stood Still” in several studios and was very disappointed with the depth, pitch, quality and intensity of my voice after using other outdated studio mikes there. The EV PL Series microphones would provide the needed quality to boost my vocals to a level that would make this great song a hit, rather than a slightly above average song that it turned out to be. I have been looking for a mike to take me to the next level and this new mike would sure help. I know this because other songs I recorded several years ago that had excellent vocals featured a better mike than I used now. I have been trying to match this excellence the last year, but have not been able to utilize the right mike. What a disappointment! Please help me get to the next level of vocals again by letting me win The EV PL Series Mikes!!! Please-don’t let me down!!!
