Broadjam is launching another Giveaway Blog to share more great gear with our members. Full Compass and Electro-Voice are giving away a set of the newly reissued EV PL Series Microphones for free! EV has been a pioneer in microphones for the past 80 years. The original PL series was first released back in late 1970s, and the re-issue of the PL series marks EV’s first complete line of instrument and vocal microphones since 1985. These microphones are built for live sound. The PL series has several dynamic microphones and a few condenser microphones to choose from. From overheads, to drums, guitar cabinets to vocals there is a microphone in this series for your band. All PL Series models feature a unique non-reflective textured satin finish, high-quality fine mesh Memraflex grilles, shock-mounted capsules for extraordinarily-low handling noise, and polar patterns strategically chosen to deliver superb sonic performance with minimal off-axis complications. Some big artists using these microphones include Finger Eleven, Brad Paisley, Staind, Kenny Chesney, and the Dropkick Murphys. And keep in mind that EV does not pay their endorsees. These artists are using EV microphones because they capture the sound necessary for their live performances.
The winner of this blog competition and their entire band will be fully outfitted with PL Series Microphones from EV – that’s over $1,000 worth of microphones. Here is what you need to do to win this product. Post a comment telling everyone why you and your band should be outfitted with the PL Series Microphones. Tell us what features stand out and how you would use it. For the next few weeks we will review the comments, and decide who will walk away with the EV PL Series Microphones, courtesy of Full Compass.
A note from the Broadjam Founder and CEO Roy Elkins:
“I used the EV PL Series Microphones while working on a record and was blown away by the quality and presentation of the microphones. First, the microphones came in a great nylon hard sided case, which was great for carrying the mics to my session. I used the PL84 on vocals and it produced an amazing quality of sound. As an experiment I tried the PL80 on some percussion work. Even though these microphones are made for live sound, I got a great recording of a shaker in small studio room. Over all the quality of these microphones are fantastic. I could go into more detail about my experience, but I would quickly run out of space. I have used a lot of EV products during my career, and I have always been satisfied with their performance.”
Here is a brief description of a few features of the EV PL Series Microphones. To learn more about the microphones, check out their product descriptions at Full Compass.
PL24 – flat response, good for vocals or speaking
PL44 – has an upper mid range bump to brighten the mix, good for vocals
PL80 – EQ friendly microphone with good low end proximity effect, good for vocals especially on big stages with large PA systems.
PL84 – condenser microphone that is great in capturing detail, good for vocals
PL33 – kick drum microphone with a tight punchy sound, also works good on guitar cabinets
PL35 – snare and toms microphone, includes a unique clamp with a built in 37 degree angle that ensures a low profile when attached to the drum
PL37 – condenser microphone that has a good off axis rejection, works for overheads, hi-hat and acoustic instruments

Sep 17, 2008/3:07 pmBeing a user of a few older EV mics, I can’t express in words how wonderful the addition of the mic’s made our live sound 15+ years ago when we first bought them. Our band was a trio with all 3 of us singing leads and backups. We had 58′s from that well known company and didn’t feel they met our standard sound onstage. The 58′s were good, we just felt they were not good enough. We swapped to EV ND’s after driving the salesman insane at “Georges music 2″ in Mongomeryville, PA. They sounded best in store and that night at our show EVERYONE kept talking about how rich our vocals were that night (and every show after stayed at that level). No one but us knew about the mic switch but our following certainly heard it. The band kept improving and we earned larger and larger venues till the drummer got married w/children. The bassist and I did a duo thing for a while till we decided to go our own ways some years later.
The band has got back together and has been re-investing in new gear. Drums, amps and PA’s have strapped us now we are in dire need of a set of mics for our demo and when we start playing out again which should be really soon. Recieving these mics would be a Godsend. The EV gear we used in the past ensures we’re using it again. We are proud to put our EV speakers in front of our band as we play and it would be awesome to have some new quality EV mic’s to pump into them!!!
EV vocal mics definately have a rich clarity to them. If 57′s & 58′s are an industry standard then EV’s mics are above the industry standard!!!

Our band is currently recording in my basement while still playing lots of out of town gigs.We use 2 EV ND series mics for vocals-they are awesome!Having a complete set of EV mics would help our recording project hugely(our drum mic setup ain’t so great).I can only dream of how much better we would sound live & on recordings with some really high end mics like the EV’s.Since I am the only guy in a 5 piece band(and the sound engineer) winning these mics would make my life MUCH easier.

Sep 10, 2008/5:14 pmHello,
Cookie Cutter Girl, Pop Superhero, at your service! *smile*
I lead a busy life of servitude & solitude in Boston, MA.
Being a Pop Supehero is an unpaid position … but I LOVE my job
writing my “BE A HERO” BLOG & running 3 “BE A HERO” Groups.
I’ve yet to show much profit. The IRS thinks it’s a hobby.
I can’t quit though, because this is what I was born to do…
I was injured in the line of duty for the first time in 2006,
when I slipped on a wire on stage, sustaining the following injuries: 2 holes in my ear canal & ear drum, 6 compression fractures in my neck and back, broken front teeth, a constant headache & ringing in my ears! This Pop Superhero is self-employed, so I get no workman’s comp, and instead the government classified me as disabled & filed me away. I’ve had to cancel my performances for 2 years, and am *still* in a neck brace while I see doctors 6-8x each week & do daily physical therapy.
I could truly use these Electro-Voice PL series microphones to help this Pop Superhero reach out to people as a motivational speaker, until I’m healed & can perform again. I would LOVE to have a set of EV PL mics to present to my loyal band members when I’m finally healed! The EV PL80 microphone would not only help me hear my voice & instruments over the constant ringing in my ears, this EV mic would also help me hear *anything* over my guitarist’s “Marshall Stack!” While my back is healing, we can rock the EV PL mics during band rehearsals.
What’s my favorite microphone in the EV PL series? As a vocalist, that would have to be the EV PL84, perfect for my home studio vocal recording. Electro-voice mics are perfect for BOTH the stage and the studio!
“Full Compass” & “Electro-Voice” are generously offering this wonderful “giveaway,” and I trust sales come to them via word of mouth about the wonders of the EV PL mic series. If chosen, I would certainly be honored promote both companies via
my high traffic websites, CookieCutterGirl.com & PowerofPink.com. I would run an International press release & post it to my list of 50+ PR sites.
I leave you with this lesson: Everyone can fly…
It’s the landings that take practice! *smile*
GIRL POWER… STRENGTH THROUGH UNITY!
