We’re considering having an outdoor music festival this summer and we’d like your input. We’d like to make the Broadjam Music Festival an annual event and for our first year it would feature Broadjam acoustic artists from different genres. The event would likely be held outdoors in a rural setting, near a scenic town in southern Wisconsin, about two hours north of Chicago. We would love to hear your thoughts about this possible event.
Your feedback on any or all of the following questions will help us get started on planning a Broadjam Music Festival.
· Is this an event you would be interested in attending?
· If the festival was more than one day, would you be interested in camping on the festival grounds, staying in a hotel, or would you be likely to attend just one day?
· What types of other activities, besides live performances, would you like to see at the festival?
· Would you be interested in selling your merchandise and CDs at the festival?
· For a one-day festival, what is a fair price for us to charge for a ticket (not including travel, lodging etc.)?
· For a two-day festival, what is a fair price for us to charge for a ticket (not including travel, lodging etc.)?
· Would you be interested in performing for fair compensation?
· What genres should we focus on for the first year? Would you only attend if certain genres of music are featured?
Or, if you want to offer input on any other aspect of a potential music festival, please feel free to do so – we’re all ears.
As always, you can contact me directly if you wish to discuss this or any other Broadjam/music topics.
Thanks,
Roy

Jan 16, 2006/6:36 pmHi, Roy and everyone. Firstly, thank you for this place and for having me
Jan 16, 2006/5:03 pmTom,
Thanks for your comments and info. The two locations we are looking at both would allow onsite camping.
Love to talk to the guys from the Big Chill. All input is greatly appreciated and wanted.

Jan 16, 2006/7:16 amHi Roy,
I’m Uk based and the wrong genre- so I won’t be attending ! However I’m sure my friends at The Big Chill (major UK outdoor festival) will be happy to pass on tips and tricks on how best to go about it- they started ten years ago with about 200 of us in a field… now it’s 20,000 over a considerably larger area, so they’ve certainly learnt how to do it(often the hard way… one year all us artists had to stump up tunes(for free) for a compilation CD to help keep it going). details-
http://www.bigchill.net
In more detail-
- definitely stay on site (allows for jamming round camp fires)
- prices hard to say- in UK a small w/e fest would charge about $60 for on site stay- Glastonbury a little more expensive!)
- mixing genres can get tricky, especially if you have more than one stage- a full on techno act can blast an acoustic set to bits, even from 3 fields away… also tend to bring different crowds- mixing all-night ravers with families can cause trouble!
best wishes

Jan 15, 2006/3:59 pmGreetings: Won’t be venturing up from Arizona this summer, but maybe in the future… am sure you will have enough close-in talent to attend! Enjoyed meeting you in Dallas at DSA—KEEP the TAXI Connection -it has done us wonders-!! We are working on submitting more of our music on your site, just swamped around here with the new studio.
Jan 15, 2006/9:18 amthank you for all the support, Lady Liz Biz: Elizabeth Kirchgatter and Robert Couch…
John,
Thanks for your specific feedback. It’s greatly appreciated. We are definitely going to have an outdoor stage…just not sure of the details yet. Hopefully, we’ll get more feedback here.
BTW: Love your stuff. I bought “What I Was Meant To Do” a couple of months back.
All the best,
Roy
Jan 13, 2006/10:30 amI would love to take part in the Broadjam summer festival! Actually, I love being a part of just about everything Broadjam (except the TAXI connection. That’s gotta go, my friend). I think having acoustic music is a great idea for the first year. Should help to keep costs down. If I were selected to perform, I’d love to be able to sell CDs. I think camping on the grounds would be a lot of fun. A good one-day ticket price would be in the $20-25 range, and a two-day ticket would be good at $30-35. As far as genres go, I don’t think I would limit the genre, just the instrumentation. It would be interesting to have a punk acoustic set, bluegrass, blues acoustic, classical acoustic, folk, you name it. If I could suggest something to avoid, it would be indoor stages. I went to Merle Fest a couple of years ago, paid full price to get in, and couldn’t see some of my favorite performers because the indoor stages filled up and they wouldn’t let anyone else in. That was a big ripoff, and I’ll never go to Merle Fest again.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment!
