Hello Broadjam,
The leaderboard for the 2007 6-Pack launched a couple weeks ago and since then we have seen a lot of different names up there—some veterans of the 6-Pack and some new faces as well. Earlier last week, we launched the rankings for our second challenge, Location, Location, Location. Once again, the leaders have changed and the race is starting to heat up. Remember, the leaderboard is updated several times daily and your reviews are extremely important in determining the outcome. Also, you can win each individual challenge that you enter, but it is the Broadjam member with the most points in all challenges that will take home the overall grand prize.
So, how has the 6-Pack been going for you so far? Is there any artist you have heard (besides yourself) that you really like? Which one of the prizes do you have your eye on? Let us know what you think of the 6-Pack so far and feel free to participate in this blog at your leisure.
Thanks for making this year’s 6-Pack an exciting one from the start and best of luck to all!
-Roy

To Kimmany & all,
Sep 1, 2007/12:48 pmI NEVER dreamed or even thought that you COULD enter a song twice (nor would I want to) until I thought I heard my song being described in a comment. I’ve only been on this site for a week or so & I do admit I’m not computer savvy – it took me 10X to get a song downloaded correctly – now after about 9 songs I’m getting the hang of it. All I know is that as I was getting songs up & was entering them in contests. When you’re a new-comer it can be quite overwhelming. My delivery would say it went through but as I put a new one in the contest it would only say that 1 was delivered & in some that none were delivered. Now these contests are still open so it’s not like it’s out of reveiw or anything. I had trouble with some cards & was using different ones so I believed that it just wasn’t going through – therefore in 2 days I added the same songs multiple times NOT knowing it was going through. Even now – when I go to 6PK only1 song will show up as being delivered. Thank God I read the comments or I probably would have done it again! There DOES seem to be a technical issue as the ones that say they are delivered would NOT let you add them again – (I don’t think so anyway although I never tried those). I did contact Bradjam & begged for any multiples to be taken off & even agreed to disqualify myself. I was told that many people had done it & talking to some new-comer friends it has happened to them too! NOW, my question is this – WHY would anyone WANT to spend the extra money & time to enter more than once? I don’t even understand that. Also, I have done many reviews & heard a rap song, a piano piece, a country & so on multiple times & I just figured that the songs were being mixed with others as their scores were changing – & I’m not so sure that doesn’t happen! Anyway – I will be VERY careful NOT to make the same mistake – only 1 week in & I’m already in Touble!!!!! I’m glad it was talked about or I would not have understood the mistake. But please have mercy on the newcomers – both to this site & to computer tech! I have so much enjoyed ALL of the great, creative music – & such variety. This is a great site!!! I know everyone is competitve, as human nature is – but please don’t jump to conclusions about each other without knowing some facts. There’s a lot of great musicians here so lets unite to help solve the problems. I do think that in future contests it would truly be helpful if the techs would not allow multiple submissions for the same challenge as I originally believed it to be. I’m sorry for the confusion – but not only did I want to explain my predicament – I believe that MANY others have done the same thing not meaning to.
Thanks DT
Kimmany:
Before you make a judgment on “it’s about money not talent,” I strongly encourage you to make that call when the contest is all over. In the last 3 years of this contest in most cases at the end, the top 20 was quite impressive. This contest has imperfections, and I don’t always agree at the total outcome but we who have entered it have agreed to follow the rules. People such as yourself who have a good, diverse fan base often do well.
As far as capitalism goes, I am glad that we are – otherwise we would not enjoy the freedom of making money on what we love to do. Is this a great country or what!

Sep 1, 2007/11:04 amTrue,
I don’t think you’re being naive, you hit the nail right on the head. I personally didn’t sign up for this, or thought you could even enter the same song twice. But in the vain of true Capitalism, how can it be any other way? I never dreamed of entering my song more than once…thought I would get an error message or something…lolol. Bottom line….it’s about money, not talent….lolololol
Sep 1, 2007/10:26 amI have to agree with kimmany – though I’d say ‘worst’ instead of ‘best’. To say that multiple submissions of the same song in one category ‘isn’t a bad strategy’ is basically to condone what is, in effect, a type of cheating if this is supposed to be a contest judged on the merits of songwriting. If it isn’t, then it amounts to little more than a competition of ‘spread betting’, which I don’t think is what the majority of contestants thought they were signing up to…?
Or am I just being hopelessly naive?
Sep 1, 2007/3:40 am…wait a minute, that isn’t fair. It sounds like those who pay the most money to get their song in ‘heavy voting’ rotation, have a better chance at winning! It’s not about having a great song, its about who pays the most money. Wow, this sounds like mainstream radio. This is Capitalism at its best….lolololol
Aug 31, 2007/9:56 pmSimon,
Thanks for the notes and the questions.
-Displaying the Leaderboard scores for each song on the artist’s profile pages is a great idea. We have discussed similar thoughts internally and simply haven’t made a decision yet. We will consider doing it in the future.
-I can’t speak for any other contest or website, but all songs that are entered into the Broadjam 6-Pack go into the peer review system. As long as you see the song listed on your My Deliveries page, next to the 6-Pack Destination name, and you haven’t deleted the song from your Broadjam account, it is entered into the contest. Maybe your previous comment about displaying the review scores would help.
-If you listen to the song once and you don’t leave the page, you can listen to any amount of the song for the second time, or as many times as you want. But initially you have to listen to at least 60 seconds of each song for your review to count. If you cancel a song review, and don’t submit your vote for the songs, you will have the opportunity of getting those songs again for review, but they probably won’t be in the same group of three.
-I understand it could be difficult to compare an instrumental to a song with vocals. We really don’t have a way around this one. From a technical perspective, we certainly could restrict certain types of songs from entering specific contests, but it wouldn’t be fair to the authors of the songs. Instrumentals compete daily on the charts, in film/TV and in advertising, so I’m not sure this is the solution. With that said, we will seriously consider the suggestion and see if there might be another possibility that we aren’t considering at the moment.
Jim,
I have looked at the submissions this morning and found several writers who have submitted the same song more than once to the same 6-Pack challenge. As I mentioned in an earlier post, those songs will get reviewed individually and the scoring is based on a per submission basis. On occasion a writer will submit their best song twice hoping to get more total points. It’s not a bad strategy if the songs never face each other in the “good, better, best” system.
I hope this helps. Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions.

Cute little ditty. The line “It changes every day” is an understatement this year it seems. I am sure a lot of artists feel like they’ve been on a roller coaster wondering where the next curve or hill is!

Aug 30, 2007/2:21 pmHey ELK,
Huh?….Wha?
Aug 30, 2007/1:39 pmYou must have studied logarythmns(?)because that’s what powers Broadjam’s computer, which is what is driving the scoring in this contest!
Rich
oops…that didn’t work…
never mind.
Aug 30, 2007/9:11 amJim Ferrie's comment is:
Sorry about this wee rant of mine, but it seems to be topical and so, I have to say this. I’ve just been doing reviews on the ‘Event’ element of the contest, about 7 or 8 groups of 3 songs. I heard the same song a) three times, once each in the first few groupings then, b) twice in the same group of 3 on the last grouping! I now even know the song title and who the artist is (using the search facilty is easy).
Now, the artist, for reasons best known to herself – maybe publicity, I don’t know – may well have entered the same song in the same element of the contest repeatedly, but I was left with a choice in the latter case of listening to two songs and voting for 3. Obviously an ill-conceived ploy, this wont do the artist any good as the best she could acheive in this review trio is a better and a best for the same song, but it’s ludicrous to have to vote on something like this. I could have cancelled, but what about the one other song? Doesn’t that merit a vote? In this case, I voted the other song ‘best’. This kind of thing just annoys and is a time-waster. Really, I think there ought to be a limit on the number of times you can enter the same song into any given element of the contest. If a song is going to be good enough to win, it only has to be entered once. Apologies for being Dr. Grumpy.
