Jim Morrison’s Legacy

Dave Diamond, a television producer from Ohio, is petitioning Florida governor Charlie Crist to pardon Jim Morrison, 38 years after the Doors’ lead singer was charged with indecent exposure and profanity at a 1969 show in Miami where he allegedly exposed himself onstage.

Diamond says that he wants Morrison to be judged for his music and poetry and not based on the accusations in Miami.

What do you think about Diamond’s request? What does the charge do to Morrison’s legacy?

What a waste of time and money. This Dave Diamond must not have a life at all. JM (the doors) will always sell the music they made back in 60-70s and it will never die. For this nobody to go and waste the courts time and money, the peoples time and money, and his own time (I assume he doesn’t have much money) is crazy and ridiculous. JM was and always will be that “rock ‘n’ roll bad boy with a rap sheet.” That’s who he was. Yes he created great music and was an unbelievable artist but, he took large amounts of drugs and did bad shit. If you pardon him you’ll need to pardon everyone at that time for indecent exposure.

*Diamond and other fans say Morrison wouldn’t have been charged if the same situation occurred today.*

If an artist goes on stage and exposes themselves today they pay a penalty and probable receive a little mark on their record. Yes, it may not be a felony but the times have changed.

To sum this up. This is the first time I’ve ever heard that Morrison had a bad rep for exposing himself. Truth is I never cared. I love the music. I love the Artist. Nothing else matters

  • ChasingFabio.com's comment is:

I agree with KenCasino. Morrison would have liked to keep his reputation the way it is now–that’s why he did the many things he did in the sixties and seventies. He is a legend for his attitude. Fuck the police, I’m gonna do what I want in the end, type deal. Keep it the way things are. We love him the way he was…and still is remembered today.

Hello gang, I tried to post last night but it didn’t go through so please forgive me if this shows up twice.

My name is Jason Scheff and I’m the tenor lead vocalist and bass player for the band Chicago, having replaced Peter Cetera in 1985 when Peter went solo. I’m a very good friend of Roy Elkins who has been telling me about Broadjam for quite some time and I figured since Chicago is going out for our 40th anniversary tour this summer I’d like to have a place to communicate with the fans and share my travels and music. I really like the feel of this site and the nature of independent music and artists. Seems like the whole world is turning into that. We just released Chicago 30 last year produced by Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts and now I’ve got about 85 songs stockpiled from my travels to Nashville over the last 4 years or so. I’m finishing them one by one and putting them up on my site. I’m also building a real website as we speak that should be up by the end of May.

As far as the topic though, I started collecting guitars that I’ve had bands and artists who have packaged with Chicago sign for me at the end of the tours. Kind of like the yearbooks we had in school where everybody would sign it and tell you to have a nice summer… I wish I would have started this at the beginning of my career but oh well. I started with Hall and Oates and then got The Doobie Brothers, Little River Band, Earth Wind and Fire, Huey Lewis and The News and the list keeps growing. What’s cool is I bought these at the end of the tours so we had all made great friends and had enough experiences where they wrote some pretty funny things! I’ll snap photos of them and put em up on my page when we get that up and running.

So no matter who you’re playing with, touring with, or just having weekend gigs, have your peers sign something that you’ll be able to look back years later and tell your story. It’s another mini diary.

Thanks for having me on your site and please listen to my music and tell me what you think. I’ve got an artist profile page up that you can click on. Jason

    Okay,

Here I come….out of the closet……aka…..I’m a closet collector. I collect instrument pins, lighters in the shape of instruments, Zippos with an instrument theme and small scale instruments. I love collecting guitars, but don’t have the dough needed to collect all I could, so I only buy guitars I’ll use. I have a “roach” used by Brewer & Shipley of “One Toke Over The Line” fame. A Canadian quarter given to me by Joni Mitchell at the Troubadour in LA. I also have a collection of 5,000 vinyl records in a climate controled storage locker in Chatsworth and about a hundred 78′s….mostly opera. I collect old microphones. I also collect weird percussion instruments. When I pass away, all of these items will go to the Kansas Musicians Hall Of Fame Museum.

Imagine a sound that captures the raw energy of funk syncopation, the pure emotion of soul grooves, the freedom of jazz improvisation and the passionate elements of Latin rhythms. Throw in the growl of rock and the howl of blues, and tie it all together with a voice that emotes and ranges and tells the story the way it should be told.

You have just heard the award-winning Charlotte-based quartet Soulganic.

Voted by both critics and the public as the Best New Band of 2006 (Creative Loafing Best of Charlotte), Soulganic’s musical landscape is at once a crisp panorama, technically sound and seamlessly united, and at the same time it is a vivid palette of earthy hues, gritty and organic. Nowhere is that more evident than on their debut release “All Directions Forward”.

    Critically-acclaimed Atlanta-based singer/songwriter Rebecca Loebe and Charlotte’s own neo-soulstress Sauda will open.

Hello folks. This is Jason Scheff, the tenor lead vocalist and bass player for the band Chicago. For those of you that don’t know me or who I am, I am the guy who replaced Peter Cetera when he went solo in 1985. Just wanted to say hello to you all and that I’m a very good friend of Roy Elkins’ for many years. He’s been telling me about Broadjam for a few years now and the time was right for me to come over here.

I’m building a website that will be hosted here hopefully by late May but in the meantime I’m posting songs as they grow for you to hear and download if you want. I’ve got my one and only solo album I made 10 years ago up on my profile page. It’s called Chauncy.

I’ve been going back to Nashville for the last 4 years having made great friends with the Country phenom group Rascal Flatts. We released Chicago 30 this last year which was produced by Rascal Flatts bass player Jay DeMarcus. Jay and I’ve written a ton of stuff and I’m just putting finishing touches on the stuff to start uploading the 85 tunes I’ve stockpiled since going to Nashville.

Just wanted to say hello and to get into the community here. You’ll be hearing a lot from me. I’m about to go on tour for Chicago’s 40th anniversay! Can you believe it? So I’ll be checking in regularly to this site. Please come over and check out my stuff and if you are a fan, please add yourself to my fans list. Let me hear what you all are doing too and we’ll become peers!

Take care everybody and thanks for having this great place to set up shop… Jason

Stuart Hammond Paul’s (SONGSINTHEKEYOFKITTY.COM) hosted by Broadjam will be advertized in CAT FANCY MAGAZINE and on their web site starting this JULY issue through SEPTEMBER. Also.. a CD will be available by that time. By all indications.. (SONGSINTHEKEYOFKITTY.COM) is the only site in the world with songs exclusively about CATS and CAT experiences. Their unique stories have been told secretly to Stuart (who speaks kitty) and he has rendered them into musical form. Nothing else like it on the net. Love Cats ? Tired of having your head batted back and forth by endless prefabricated loops ? Love real melodies .. not endless noodling ? Come to (SONGSINTHEKEYOFKITTY.COM) and feel the fur.

Promoting Yourself Creatively

One of the hardest things in music is self-promotion. Artists have to be creative to compete in today’s market. For example, to promote the new NIN album, Trent Reznor set up a trail of cryptic clues, from flash drives containing new songs left in bathrooms at NIN shows, to websites alluding to a dark future spread across the web.

What are some of the best promotional techniques you’ve used or heard about? Share your stories with other Broadjam members in the Broadjam Blog.
